My partner and I stayed here for 9 days and were impressed.
We were warmly welcomed by a smart young man at reception, who was helpful and recommended that we eat in the hotel's rooftop restaurant. We were not disappointed; the view was beautiful.
It was a very relaxing place to stay, the rooms are very well soundproofed. However, my mattress was slightly uncomfortable, the springs stuck out which is not what you expect of a deluxe room in a 4 star superior hotel. The decor is tired and the hotel would benefit from some refurbishment. These were minor issues considering how pleasant our stay was overall.
Definitely book a sea view room and make sure that you eat in both of the hotel's restaurants, the food is delicious.

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must.

We moved to this hotel for 2 nights after 6 nights at the Italia E Lido right on the front. The Hotel is about 20 minutes walk up a winding road above Rapallo and the views across the bay of Portofino are amazing. We booked a sea view room - it was in good condition but we felt that housekeeping could have been better. For example, 2 lightbulbs were out and the shutters were very difficult to shut and the paint was pealing. I would also have expected to have a small table and chairs on the balcony - we improvised with chairs from the room! But the the room was very large with a good sized bathroom. We ate at the roof top restaurant on both nights and on the outside terrace on the second night which was truly amazing.as the sun went down. However, despite lots of waiters in attendance, on the first night it took them an hour to bring the starters.... However, the food was gorgeous and we were happy to give them another chance - and happily the service was a lot slicker. The hotel has a lovely ambience and a great swimming pool - a really good length rare in hotel pools. It is a bit of a walk into Rapallo but we cut off the main road and found a quicker way down to the front. It is then another 10 minute walk to the train and bus station so if you are travelling around be prepared! For us staying at 2 different hotels was a good choice and I would recommend it if you are in Rapallo for a few days. We would happily return to Rapallo and this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room - the view is what this hotel is all about!

My husband and I spent four nights at Hotel Bristol in Rapallo and would stay there again. The rooftop restaurant was our very favorite with its impeccable service, exquisitely prepared cuisine, and breathtaking nighttime view of the Ligurian Gulf. The two head waiters were exceptionally professional (we teased one of them about the menu prices being presented only to my husband! My menu had no prices!). As far as the rooms, our standard room was not to my liking when we arrived - needed a fresh makeover, I felt. The manager was extremely helpful in finding us another room on the same floor which had a cozier, less worn appearance. Unfortunately, it was located right next to the very noisy elevator (we knew this beforehand)...overall, very nice people, lovely breakfast, large refreshing pool, and its location afforded us a good hike every day down to the city center and back!

Room Tip: I think the extra money for an upgrade from a standard room would probably be a good idea.

We really enjoyed this autumn break on the Italian Riviera. I have to say I was a little misled by the photo of the hotel on the brochure which gave me the impression - heaven knows why - that it was on the sea front across a palm-tree lined boulevard on the sea front. Actually it is quite high up from the rocky coast, separated from it by some houses (these do not in any way obstruct the view) and the Genoa-Pisa railway running along the sea front itself. Amazingly this did not really detract from our experience and people need not be put off by this statement of fact. The views are, as others have said, quite stunning. The hotel is one of the quietest I've stayed in and the noise of the trains - quite frequent in the day and occasionally at night - pretty unobtrusive.

We had a suite at the top of the building with a generous patio/balcony. On one occasion we bought fresh bread, cheese, melon, parma ham and wine and dined out on it watching the sunset over the bay. Accompanied by a little Mozart from an iPod on a dock it was exqisite. You can still have a romantic evening even when you are close on 70 and there will be plenty older than we are who will agree. In fact it took us right back to memories of our honeymoon in Malta 44 years ago ...

The walk in to the town and then delightful sea front was a little under a mile, as as we did it there and back twice a day we found ourselves getting impressively fit. We'd have liked a game of tennis - the hotel does not have a court, but they told us they could arrange it for us in the town where there is a club. But time was too short.

The pool area, though not vast, was very adequate and kept meticulously by the staff. Service was as polite and efficient as you would expect it to be at this price. Occasionally there seemed to be a shortage of staff, but then this was the end of the season.

As I said, the room was quiet and with no disturbance from our neighbours or other guests. There was only one slight irritation for which the hotel could not be held in any way responsible - some little flying visitors which we dealt with ourselves with a spray bought in the town. Do you know the Italian for 'mosquito'? It is a wonderful example of Italian onomatopoeia - 'zazano'. I was pleased that I had not forgotten my phrase book. Back home we shall always refer to these pesky creatures by there Italian name, I am very sure.

All in all, a good experience. We would go again and recommend it.

Room Tip: If your budget stretches that far, get a room at the top (fifth floor)

Firstly I would like to thank the Management and Reception staff of the Grand Bristol who went above and beyond to help me with a tricky situation. We recently spent a week at this lovely Hotel. The views are to die for. The location is a little bit out of town and there is nothing in the vicinity but an enjoyable 15-20 minute walk down along a beautiful coastline. Taxis up from town were sometimes necessary but again a bit pricey. Couldn't fault the rooms very spacious, well appointed and if in need of a little TLC it only added to the ambiance. One little niggle is the Bar prices - they were astronomical! yes it is a lovely setting but the prices for drinks were prohibitive and as a consequence the bar areas were empty and therefore no atmosphere. The most fabulous thing about this hotel is the staff. From the management to all restaurant/bar and housekeeping they were pleasant, helpful and competent. Rapallo and the surrounding towns and villages are charming and we spent an enjoyable time visiting them by train and boat. All very easy to do. I loved it and wouldn't hesitate to go back!!!

Room Tip: Get a room with sea views - well worth it.

This hotel needs to up its game, it is in a fantastic part of Italy indeed the world but needs a little fine tuning. Reception and pool staff very obliging. Staff at breakfast obliging but on the slack side. We had to ask for coffee - sometimes no one asked us. Breakfast finished @10.30 a couple of times retuned to the buffet just after and found it cleared - no member of staff had asked if we were finished, as is normal practice. Breakfast itself was ok - that is all. Beds were extremely hard. Finger marks on bedroom walls, bin not always emptied. We visited several beaches in rapallo, camoglia and santa margherita, 2 sun beds and umbrella cost between 23.5 and 25 euros. The beach affiliated to hotel charged 40 euros that they discounted to 25 - in effect no discount at all and on top of that she insisted we lay by the toilets - this was a Monday in sept - beach was not packed!! For obvious reasons we did or use this beach it used the one next door ran by a lovely Italian couple which was far superior. Decking around pool very annoying - the decking is loose and every time someone passes you your sun bed vibrates.

GHB is located in Rapallo a very convenient place to explore Liguria Hotel is renovated with nice verandas and marvellous view over the bay Room is comfortable but bathroom was very small, so small that even people with average height will struggle to take a shower. On the positive side personel is very experienced, friendly and polite and have suggested and booked for us many very good restaurants to eat. Parking was easy and cost free, free WiFi however is not available and costs 10 euros per day. Pool was clean and not crowded. Breakfast needs radical improvement Overall a very good hotel to stay

Room Tip: Room with sea view
