“Grand Hotel Bristol”

The hotel is located about 1 1/4 miles from the center of Rapallo, or 25 minute walk. A cab will cost 15 euro each way to get to town. Parking a car in town is very difficult. Your reservation may say "Wi-Fi free" but it is only free for 2 continuous hours/day. 24 hour free Wi-Fi is 7 euro for 1 phone/tablet and 10 euro for 2. I feel we were mislead by the hotel on this. The free breakfast is very nice and filling. The pool is magnificent and the staff are extremely helpful.

Room Tip: The junior suite room are much larger and very nice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Grand Hotel Bristol. The hotel is a huge pink Belle Époque-era visible from right across the bay, slightly reminiscent of the Grand Budapest Hotel (a la Wes Anderson!). The location is superb as it is perched overlooking the stunning Bay of Tegullio across to Portofino and you can take breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea and the huge pool also faces the Mediterranean. The decor is classic with a modern twist, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was a large room, although not with a sea view but we didn't spend much time in the room. We had two small terraces and the room was very comfortable, although a bath would have been good and body lotion is a necessary amenity! I also found it frustrating to ask for a wifi code from the reception daily, they should have free wifi in the lobby without a complicated log-in process. The pool area was very pleasant and the staff were also great here, the lunch options are limited as there was just a buffet available but there are plenty of lunch choices close by. The breakfast was very good with prosecco for guests and a good selection of food. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant Le Cupole is a must, it is absolutely fantastic and the views and sunset are simply stunning! Overall the Grand Hotel Bristol is a great option for your visit to the Italian Riviera, we travelled easily from Rapallo to Cinque Terre by train and to Portofino by ferry which is a 15/20 min walk from the hotel. The train station slightly longer but we enjoyed the walk into the town every day, it is very pretty along the seafront and Rapallo is a charming town. We can't wait to go back and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We stayed in this hotel in Rapallo as it was convenient for visiting Portofino and the Cinque Terre villages. we had a room with a balcony and sea view and views over the bay are absolutely stunning morning noon and evening. The staff are friendly and there is a lovely outside pool area, pool towels provided and comfy loungers for sunbathing. Rooms are not large but more than big enough and nicely decorated in classic Italian style. The Hotel is across the road from the railway line that goes up the coast so you will hear some train and road noise but with the windows closed at night we had no trouble sleeping. This hotel would not be ideal for anyone who does not like a walk into town as it is at the edge of Rapallo. The walk along the footpath by the sea only takes about 15mins so its not far and its quite pleasant. Breakfast was mainly continental (just Scrambled eggs and bacon on the hot side) but with a good variety of items. You do have to pay for the internet though which in a four star hotel at £7 per day was a bit steep!

Rapallo has plenty to do and we enjoyed the boat trip to the Cinque Terre villages which was an all day trip and only cost £33. The cable car up to Santuario di Montallegro is fabulous and the views are amazing. Walk around the church and down the path to a lovely restaurant for lunch under the trees.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room - worth the extra money

Wish I had spent more time at this place. The hotel has lots of facilities I hadn’t time to try. Anyhow that is a great place for a relaxing Italian coastline holiday à la Belle Époque.

Check-in was smooth and we were upgraded to a room and partial sea view. However the room had a balcony overlooking the cobbled driveway that also included a view of the water. The city of Rapallo is a beautiful retreat from busy Genoa or Milan. Rapallo would be always a city of Belle Époque—here you may easily imagine Guy de Maupassant or Lina Cavalieri strolling nearby. 15 minutes of walking and you are at the famous promenade with restaurants and cafés.

The room was not large but very cosy with comfort bed, marble bathroom and soft bathrobes with slippers. Wi-Fi in the room is paid, but if you have a notebook you may easily connect to Ethernet interface available in the room free of charge. Breakfast features quite good selection of produce as well as great views to Ligurian sea.

With the primary reason of wanting to see Portofino without the Portofino price tag, the Grand Hotel Bristol was a good choice for both facilities and price.

The hotel itself is beautiful if not a little tired round the edges, shutters and balconies where in need of a lick of paint but we could see that was already being looked at with maintenance there. That aside, all public areas were well maintained. Bedrooms were relatively small and the shower is tiny, I struggled and I'm petite.

The staff were charming and helpful. The hotel is located approx 15 min walk from the centre of Rapallo which is fine when the weather is. Portofino can be reached by the ferry via Santa Margarita from Rapallo for Eur11 return pp.

Best bit: the views from the hotel looking out to sea.

This gorgeous hotel, about a fifteen minutes walk from town and five minutes from beach access, is situated across the road from the beach. The views were stunning! We had a small room with a balcony overlooking the cobbled driveway that also included a view of the water. Very welcoming after a day of travel to Cinque Terre. Lush bathrobes, slippers and a nice tub all awaited you at the days end of exploring the local area. The restaurant had wonderful food, well plated with views that are hard to beat. We didn't use the pool, but it looked inviting and clean. The large selection at breakfast would be sure to please anyone. Definitely the place to stay!

Room Tip: Great for a romantic stay

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the GHB. It appeared that the hotel was pretty quiet which was probably due to the main holiday season not starting until the 1st of May. Our spacious room was on the 3rd floor with fabulous views over the bay to Portofino from our small balcony. Pay the extra for a front facing room as it is certainly worth it. Over all the hotel is very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and was good although we found the choice slightly limited. This was probably due to the emphasis being placed on the "continental" style of breakfast. We had lunch one day and it was very good however dinner in "Le Cupole" was fabulous. This restaurant is on the top floor with even better views over the bay as the sun sets ... .bliss! Other writers have mentioned the walk into the main town of Rapallo. This does take about 15 minutes however it is along a pleasant path which may not suit those with limited mobility. Once in Rapallo there is an excellent selection of bars, restaurants and gelateria for the daily ice cream!. The other towns along the bay are easy to get to by bus, ferry or train. Portofino is the star attraction of this area however a word of caution is needed. We sat down for a drink on the waters edge and left feeling that we had been mugged! The costs of food and drink here are exorbitant! This may be of no consequence to the owners of the enormous luxury cruisers anchored in the bay but may not suit all travellers. Genoa is well worth a visit as the attractions are world class. The Cathedral of San Lorenzo is stunning and the museums along Via Garibaldi are superb. There is also a great aquarium and various other attractions at the sea front.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a sea view if possible, well worth the extra!
