“Group Consensus - One of two of the best hotels on our trip”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

Our group of three couples reserved the Italia e Lido for two nights of our three plus weeks in Italy. By consensus we agreed that this was one of our favorites (of the 9 hotels during our trip).

The hotel has a beautiful setting, overlooking the water and the castle ( lighted at night and even more beautiful.) Although parking is limited, we were directed to park in a designated spot right in front of the hotel and there was no charge. We were expecting to pay 15 Euro per night for garage parking. The location is very convenient to walk to the ferry landing for trips to Santa Margherita and Portofino.

The hotel has a very nice restaurant where we enjoyed dinner the first night. The next night the hotel staff recommended a local restaurant within easy walking distance, da Mario. There were lots of locals and the food was good. One member of our group said it was one of the more reasonably priced restaurants of our trip.

The breakfast was really good. There were lots of choices - eggs, meats, cheeses fruit, yogurt, cappuccinos and an outstanding chocolate croissant that received rave reviews.

The rooms were larger by small Italian hotel standards and they had great lighting. The bathrooms were also more spacious than most on our trip. One couple mentioned noise from people taking loud/partying outside the room on one night of our stay.

The staff was welcoming and helpful.

Room Tip: The rooms with a seaview are worth the extra expense. You can hear the water lapping outside your wi...

Good value for money and friendly staff. We got a room with sea-front view and could enjoy the view from our balcony while having a limoncino. Suprisingly good breakfast for a Italian hotel. Only big thing we didn't like was the dirty floors in our room, but otherwise the room was tidy.

As they say in real estate: Location, Location, Location. And the location of this hotel is fantastic, right along the water, with a fantastic view of the old castello & harbor. It is a short walk to the ferry to Portofino and the shops, bars & restaurants of the old town and a great jumping off point for not just Portofino, but also the Cinque Terre and La Spezzia. And if you book in advance (like I have done on 2 occasions), you can get a really great rate. And while the exterior could use a point job, the rooms and public areas are clean. Also, a plus is the outdoor terrace overlooking the harbor. Great for a relaxing drink in the sun after a hard day's touring.

Have stayed here twice and have found the staff very helpful on both occasions. The first time I arrived on the wrong day and even though I had a package deal from Hotels.com, they switched my reservation without hesitation. On my second stay, I had left some toiletries in the bathroom and the maid tracked me down before I left the hotel.

Haven't had a meal in the restaurant, but the buffet breakfast was way above average.

On the negative side, the parking lot is very tiny. Also, they dole out soap & shampoo like it is gold. But I think they do this to avoid waste. Additional soap/shampoo was easily provided to me on request.

Overall it was a great stay and Italia e Lido hotel is highly recommended.

Room Tip: The rooms with the larger balconies are the ones facing the sea.

Having read mixed reviews about Hotel Italia e Lido here and elsewhere, we weren't sure what we'd find, but enjoyed staying here and thought the accommodations for the price were good. Perhaps because it was late September, but we had no trouble finding a space in one of the hotel's free parking spaces. We reserved a sea-front room, but when we arrived and without asking, they said they upgraded us. We ended up in a sea-front room with a balcony overlooking the castle and city's promenade, complete with lounge chairs and a table/chairs. This is no doubt contributing to our positive review. We took full advantage of the balcony because the weather was great when we were there. (The balcony's downside was when a woman in the next room was smoking on her balcony.) We believe that our room had been fairly recently upgraded, and found it to be very spacious and clean, with only perhaps a few worn tiles in the very large bathroom. Breakfast was nothing to write home about, but included scrambled eggs and bacon (fried thinly sliced Italian ham), cereals, cornetti, yogurt and a beverage (coffee, tea, water) machine, and more than once after we ate, we went elsewhere for a better cup of cappuccino. We liked Rapallo a lot, though understand when others have used the word "bygone" to describe it. We found it extremely easy to get around from there to other places nearby, and the hotel is well situated for easy access elsewhere. In fact, as we walked along the promenade several times, we agreed that we thought Hotel Italia e Lido was located in the best spot along Rapallo's long waterfront, and appeared to be the only hotel in the central promenade area that is actually right on the water.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in September with another couple. Had a lovely room with shared terrace which overlooked the bay and castle. Bathroom could have been cleaner. On arrival, there was hair on the floor. Breakfast was unfortunately a bit poor. An antiquated toaster, yoghurt served in a large plastic tub, strange tasting milk and rotting fruit. The breakfast room itself needs a good clean and update.
We ate dinner here on 1 occasion outside which was very good and served promptly. Also "happy hour" is quite a treat. Good serving of finger foods with drinks.
Easy walking to city centre. Limited parking available but there is a public car park close by.

A friend of mine recommended this hotel, the town of Rapallo and the area around it. It proved to be a great holiday and we loved our stay at this hotel. It really is in the best position on the front in Rapallo - being right by the castle and the pedestrian walkway. We booked a superior room which was of good size and came with a "shared" terrace. The hotel provided a table and chairs and sun loungers which were great for soaking up the sun and the view. We got an excellent deal booking ahead for half board and ate out at one of their waterfront tables every night. The food was of a good standard and we enjoyed walking along the promenade after our meal and having a coffee of drink at one of the many bars. The hotel staff were friendly and we made good use of the rocky beach (fee charged) to swim in the sea. We stayed here for 6 nights and then moved to the Grand Hotel Bristol for 2 nights which I will also review.

Room Tip: Book a superior room for the best view in the house!

I spent one week with my friend in double room in the July - and we absolutely loved it. There was a big terazza for 3 rooms. The terrace was so big that it didnt bother at all that there were also others sometimes around.

And the view, just loved to watch to boats coming and going, enjoyed the sun and listen to sea waving. The location is also perfect, just in the starting point of the "center" and walking areas.

Our room was big and nice and clean. Staff was nice and helpful. I spent 3 weeks in total in Italy staying in many different hotels and this had the best and largest breakfast, eggs, ham, fruits, cereals, veges.

Room Tip: The rooms facing to the street are really noisy 24/7, but rooms to the sea are nice ones.
