My wife and I stayed here for three nights in early October ‘12. Accommodation is expensive in Rapallo and even more so in nearby towns. The Mondial was still pricey but reasonable compared to other places that were available that (a) were fairly close to the waterfront and (b) had parking for our rental car.

The Mondial’s location is pretty good, about a 5-minute walk downhill to the waterfront and the same to the train station. The return walk requires climbing some steps, which was ok for us but might be a problem for other guests. Despite being on the hillside any view of the bay is blocked by higher buildings. Parking was available for $10 euro and was definitely worth it.

The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel has a very nice lobby/lounge area that opens onto an attractive garden courtyard. The breakfast buffet was served in a spacious area off the lobby. The buffet was ok but a little sparse, particularly on fruit. Coffee was to order and pretty good.

Our room (#110) was on the first floor (American 2nd), up a narrow staircase that was challenging with suitcases (the manager helped us, however). The room was fairly large (we were given a triple for the two of us) and nicely decorated with dark traditional furniture. There was a comfortable double bed (except for the low and hard pillows), night stands, lots of built-in closet and drawer space, and a desk. There was no safe or mini-bar. Air conditioning was available but we didn’t need it during our stay. During the night we could here the trains but this didn't bother us greatly -- other higher end hotels are also close to the rail line and probably have some of the noise as well.

The bathroom was compact and recently refurbished. It had a corner sink with a small but adequate amount of counter space and a rather small shower that might be a problem for larger guests. Wifi was included and worked well in the public areas but we had trouble with the reception in our room.

Overall we were satisfied with the Mondial. If we returned to the area we might look for a different and more scenic location, but this might be far more expensive that the Mondial

We randomly chose the Mondial after checking out a couple of disheartening hotels full of pensioners on the seafront in the neighboring villages. You can park your car free in front of the building which is up on the hill, and the cost of 90 euros includes breakfast too. We were greeted by a receptionist speaking perfect English who showed us the room. It had airconditioning and a huge wall-to-wall clothes cabinet, enough to store all our clothes we own at home. The room itself was quite large too, with a desk and chair, tv and double bed. Other rooms had a balcony too. The room probably hasn't been renovated since the sixties except for the walls which had new paint (or maybe a year old). All the furniture, including the doors seemed vintage. Unfortunately this was true for the shower cabin, where the glass became detached from the frame and had to be pulled hard if you wanted to close the cabin door. Anyway, it was a little worn but perfectly useful. As usual in Italy, they only served pastries and jam for breakfast, no meat or cheese.
