The restaurant is located in in a beautiful cosy street of the city and looks quite charming when you have the possibility to sit outside. Unfortunately this atmospheres and the served wine was the only upside of our stay in the trotteria.
Pricing like a typical tourist trap, we were served a miserable small bunch of mussels tasting bland and not at all like cooked in a Mediterranean white wine sauce. The fries you have to order separately for five Euros are a joke taking into consideration you pay close to one Euro per mussel (excluding the ones not edible) and two Euros for tab water.
The price can nighters be justified by the food quality nor the service staff creating a very stressful atmosphere.
We wound not come back, that’s sure, and advice you to avoid this very disappointing experience as well!

I love getting off the beaten path and avoiding overly touristic places with inflated prices and loud music. This restaurant spills out onto a quiet side street and has a casual charm that is hard to come by in Santa Margherita. We were greeted with a warm smile and felt very welcomed. The food was fresh and great and Daniella was friendly and cheerful. I will definitely be going back.
We had fresh scampi, shrimp, squid, and clams. Fresh homemade pasta, great Pigato wine, and yummy desserts. The bill for two was €115.

Down a back street and not very busy when we went, but great food, especially the mixed antipasti. Served with panache

We have visited Santa Margharita for about 10 years. Each time we can't wait for our meal at Trattoria Cesarina. (We usually go there at least twice when we visit SML.) We were turned on to the restaurant by Frommer's in the 1990s. The first time we went Fabrizio and his son, Francesco, could not speak English. We ended up understanding something like, "You sit, I feed." We have never had a 14 course meal before! We were overwhelmed by the dishes we were served. After all of these years and all of the visits we rarely have the same item served to us. The food is freshly prepared by "Uncle Louie" and the food served is fresh from the market the day of our visit. He also makes dishes on request (We have asked for pasta a la Genovese.) Cost for all of the food and wines is comparable to places that are touristy along the main waterfront street, but one cannot compare being in this restaurant (without the tourists) to being in a pizzeria in the middle of many other restaurants with other Americans!
