We spent five days at the Grand Hotel Miramare for a wedding and from the first minute, everything was perfect. The rooms on sea side (ours: 507) have a fantastic view, are very comfortable, large bed, balcony and all the necessary facilities. Rooms with park view are quieter but the view is also very nice. Service is really at a five star level; the Concierge is really helpful, the butler for the parking always ready to get our car out when needed and service in general (aperitifs or lunches etc...) is high standard. Everything is done for you to feel comfortable with total discretion. It had been a long time we hadn’t been so well treated in a hotel. Village center is at 5 minutes’ walk (I recommend some nice restaurants like La Paranza and Del Marinaio) and it’s 10 minutes to the boats for Portofino. We had a great stay, thank you!

Room Tip: Sea side rooms have a great view (sun rise) but the noise of the street passing by during the day. Park room as quiter (sunset)

This classic and classy hotel does everything right. It has big rooms, first class service, great food, and a beautiful atmosphere.

Biggest Pros: This hotel has all the amenities you need (room service and a minibar) and lots of others like tall ceilings, Frette towels and linens, bathrooms with views of the Med, nightly turn down service, etc. We loved how the staff quickly got to know you and your preferences.

Few Cons: For dinner , the main restaurant has a small menu and awkward service (but it does a great morning spread). The spa, which is in the hotel but independently owned and operated, had five star prices with one star professionalism and facilities.

Hotel location is great and it is about an hour (beautiful and easy) walk to Portofino and a very short walk (5-10 minutes) to restaurants, shopping, and sites in SML. It is even walking distance to the train station; but don't do it if you are with suitcases. Also, CT is about an hour away by train.

Also, found the hotel to be kid friendly as the rooms are big, maid service was constant, and the staff outgoing and accommodating.

Overall, highly recommend this hotel and it's piano bar, pool, excellent breakfast spread, customer service, and views. But of course, be prepared to pay for it.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony overlooking the Med and specifically a bathroom with window overlooking Med (with about 50% have).

The view is magnificent. The staff friendly, attentive and helpful. The room was inviting and charming and the bathrooms spotless. Highly recommend. The hotel is located on the edge of Santa Margherita on the beach and a short walk into town. Enjoy dining on the terrace over looking the Mediterranean and the sparkling lights of the neighboring coastal cities.

After reading some of the reviews of the Grand Hotel Miramare, I could not believe it was the same hotel my husband and I stayed in last month. We both absolutely loved the property and everything about our stay there. We had trouble with our rental car on the drive to Santa Margarita Ligure and when we arrived at the hotel, the concierge was so amazing. He basically told us to go and relax and he would take care of our car situation. We got to our room and were completely wowed. We had a totally renovated bathroom….beautiful, clean, modern. Our room was lovely and our balcony looking out on the beach and the water was worth the cost of the room. We heard some traffic..no police cars, maybe a few scooters... but with the balcony doors closed, the room was very quiet. The staff could not have been nicer. When they heard it was our 25th anniversary, they gave us a wonderful bottle of bubbly. We got great restaurant advice--and if you ask, the concierge will make reservations for you. If you don't ask I am sure they assume you will take care of it yourself. We got perfect directions to the train to Cinque Terre, to Portofino, to Milan, etc. I don't really care what the other people staying in a hotel look like or what their ages are..I guess some people do... but everyone was quick with a greeting whether they were 20 or 80. I would not change one thing about the Grand Miramare Hotel except I wish I could stay there more often. I was so sad to leave this wonderful hotel and I cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: We were unsure about staying on a lower floor room, but being closer to the water was lovely. And the room was quiet so I would stay in the same room again. Also, being there in April was kind of perfect….few crowds, great weather, no problem booking restaurants.

This was our fourth visit to the Grand Hotel Miramare - so its fair to say we like it.

We normally come in May - decent weather but no crowds. I gave the Miramare four stars last year - and since then it has improved significantly the area where I thought it was lacking before. Now the lunchtime snack menu is fully up to the standard one would expect from a hotel of this class. All the rest of the facilities are as good, or better, than before. The excellent pool, for example, has actually been modernised in a way which is tasteful - that's quite unusual in my experience of holiday hotels.

We had the same sea view rooms as last year and they are still excellent: roomy, airey, spotlessly clean and with a view which is simply tremendous. The public rooms remain stately and yet still comfortable. The 'a la carte' food in the restaurant is first rate - particularly the fish dishes - and the breakfasts are a delight, especially when served on the veranda. The wi-fi works - if a little laborious to logon - and the safes work fine - usually,

But there was just one significant bugbear this year. At 2pm on a Sunday morning we were wakened by the thump, thump, thump from a wedding party downstairs in the function suite. This affected only the seaview rooms, there was no noise in the corridors or at the back of the hotel. To be fair,it stopped shortly after 2pm, and the marketing manager apologised for it the following day. He promised it would not happen again during our stay - and it didn't. But I think in future we'll be scheduling our visit to avoid Saturdays. A good nights sleep is my fundamental test of a hotel - so I'm afraid it misses five stars this time round.

The Miramare is truly nice hotel - the staff are, without exception, first class - and you can genuinely feel at home in the place. The new carpark next door seems to work brilliantly for dropping off and picking up guests' cars. So all round: excellent. If the idiot running the function suite had kept the doors closed that Sunday morning (apparently this is how they control the sound at night) the Miramare would have rated a safe five stars from all of us.

So here's hoping for next time.

Room Tip: High floors are further from the street so the morning work may not be so loud. Also, if you must stay on a Saturday and are a light sleeper, a garden view room may be more suitable.
