“Not as advertised”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

This property did not live up to its billing for a variety of reasons. 1) When the temperature of our room reached 80F, according to our world time/temperature/alarm clock, we asked for the air conditioning as advertised in the hotel's brochure. We were told that the a/c was turned off as October was out of season. 2) Getting the attention of the people at the concierge's desk was often difficult. On one occasion, I asked for help and rang he little bell: no response to my three attempts. I sought the help of the bartender who finally rounded up a desk staffer. Perhaps the hotel reduced staff as the occupancy of the off season no longer demanded multiple staffers at the desk. 3) The wait staff appeared at breakfast to be indifferent and not particularly interested in serving the guests. It seemed anxious to clear the dining areas. Food offerings were not particularly interesting and some offerings were often not available as trays were not quickly replenished (scrambled eggs, for example). Tour groups, such as ours, were seated in an area away from the dining areas with views of the water.

The rooms were generally clean. Furnishings were adequate although bordered on the "spartan" as most guests during the season no doubt were more interested in the beaches than the nature of their accommodations. Ask for the 4th floor and a room facing the water. There, you'll have a great view and a balcony.

The Santa Margharita is a marvelous town with all the attributes one might want: a location on the water, marina, working fishing fleet, clean streets, nice ambiance with interesting local architecture, and some very good restaurants.

The hotel is about a 15-20 minute walk from the town center.

The choice of this hotel will depend the guest's use and expectations. Opting for sun and sea will strongly influence the choice of Regina Elena. If however, the guest is part of a group looking for ease and comfort after a day of outings, one might look for a another hotel.

Room Tip: 4th floor facing the water

Dear Sir,
Thank you for the time you spent writing a review.
Our Hotel is fully air-conditioned but at the end of October with an outside temperature of less than 68F our guest start to ask for the heating not for the cooling, as explained to you during your stay.
We gave you a Portable Air Conditioning Unit for your comfort. I am not surprised about the fact that you did not report it because to be kind with the guests for us in not an exception but is our daily target, but I am surprised about your statement about the evening temperature in your room higher than the outside temperature at noon.
At the desk of the hotel in October, as in the other periods, we work to give guests the best service and we have always 2 or 3 people at work together, I am very surprised and sorry if you did not receive assistance.
Our staff really care about the guest and they know the importance of the guest satisfaction, I am sorry if you did not felt it and I will report it to the restaurant staff. Regarding the seats during breakfast, I agree with you but you can understand that is not physically possible to seat a 50 people group in a 25 seats veranda. To be honest we have to say that, even from the main dining room where you had breakfast, you have sea view.
Thank you for the nice word about the cleanness of the rooms and about our lovely village. I hope to have you our guest in the future in order to let you try another time our services hoping to have a better result.

Best regards

Piergiorgio Ciana

We stayed in the attached 3 star Regina Elena Dependance. The room is small and old, it has air-conditioning. We could use the main hotel roof top pool, which has nice views but limited sun beds. Sunbeds and umbrellas on the hotel private beach across the road cost 18 euro per day!! There are beaches just down the road where you can pay 6 or 8 euros, so this is a ripoff. Did not get breakfast included so cannot comment on that. Santa Margherita is expensive but beautiful, hotels are limited and extremely prices - book early! If we had booked a week earlier we would have gotten the room 100 euro cheaper for the 4 nights as it was 630 euro for 4 nights was a lot, overpriced. Staff not that friendly.
