“Absent minded receptionist”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

I travelled as a solo female to Santa Margherita and this was the cheapest hotel i could find. It was 35Euros per night for a single room with wash basin. There are 2 shared toilets and shower which is seperate.

Location: Great! It is 5 minutes walking distance to the heart of the village.

Cleanliness: Rooms are clean however common areas are qute messy.

Safety: There is no actual reception so people can just walk in and out. But i guess theft wont be a worry in SM because it is a wealthy place. The doors are locked by a certain time so you get keys to the main enterance and hostel door.

Furnishing: Annabella is a rustic charming place for people who are looking for quiet.

Service: The lady who works there is really old and sweet. However I wasn't too impressed when i checked out and she claimed to have given me back my Swiss permit (which i have put as a deposit). After searching for 1.5 hours, she finally found it but she wasn't apologetic at all and this really bothered me. It was quite a nightmare because of this delay, i missed my connection train to Cinque Terre and almost got stranded in the middle of nowhere. Otherwise, i would def have given Annabella a better review.

If you are traveling on your own and are looking for a youthful hotel, forget it because there are no hostels in SM.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the road so you can sleep better.

If you are looking for a no-frills, adequate, clean place to stay, go here. Like a previous reviewer wrote, it's a little hard to categorize...it's almost like renting a room in the owner's large house, except you'll never see the owner unless you go looking for her (who, by the way, is really nice). Bed was fine, room and shared bathroom were spotless, and the location was good, close to most everything you want to do in SML. For the price, I would stay here again.

Definitely not a hotel -- hard to find a category for it. This is the second time we stayed here. The first time I did not know what to expect and was a bit taken back by its simplicity. This time, I found it almost charming in its own peculiar way. Good location -- close to the center of town and about 8 minutes from the beach.

If you're on a budget and want to stay in Santa Margherita within walking distance to the beach and all the shops, then this is a good place to stay.

I stayed here on 2 separate weekends. It's a great location, cheap, clean and in a very safe area. As a single traveler, I didn't worry about a thing.

The beds are more like cots....not very comfortable. The bathroom may or may not have toilet paper - I had to ask and even then, only 1 roll was put in the bathroom. I was terrified it was going to run out. The linens are basic, the bath towels are about a 100 years old and really small. One day my bath towel was the size of a large hand towel. No air conditioning, tv, or wi-fi. But again - it's clean and safe.

Otherwise, if you want ANY kind of luxury this wouldn't be a good choice for you.

To call Annabella's a 'hotel' is a bit of a stretch - it's a bit of an unfair category to put it in, which is why it's so low on the list of Santa M hotels... but, never mind!

I've stayed here with my partner in the region of 10 times (and he's stayed many more) - and we'll continue to go back. It's an absolutely perfect place to stay for a long weekend if you don't want the fuss and expense of a big hotel. It's set in a side-street of the beautiful town, next door to the hospital (not that you'd notice - it's so quiet!) and a few hundred meters from the shops and brilliant restaurants that the town has to offer.

The rooms are basic - beds, wardrobe, sink, towels - but very clean. The marble floors are a welcome addition when the weather starts hotting up - lovely and cool! Shared bathrooms, but we've never found it a problem - the rooms are in small clusters (of 2 or 3) behind a communal locked door, so you never have to share the bathroom with more than a couple of people (or none, if you go in low season).

The only negative, which isn't really a negative, that I can think of is the parking: very limited although there is plenty of parking in the nearby streets.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a no-frills, ideally located place to sleep.

A one star hotel here means that there is a communal bathroom and shower room (I only saw one and my guidebook says there are 10 rooms - yeesh). And hotel is a pretty strong word - there's a German lady who lives here who rents out rooms, I think, so it's a little bit like staying at Grandma's. It was also I think 70 euro a night for a double which is insane anywhere else in the world, but this is in Santa Margherita Ligure, which is pretty damn expensive (of course, we were travelling last minute too).
That being said, we had a positive experience overall. The lady is really nice and unobtrusive. The beds are extremely comfortable and everything is perfectly clean. It's near a hospital but there is no noise from there and it's very close to the beach and the center of town. This is a tiny operation, so you'd definitely have to call to reserve a room, but for us it worked very well.
PS - she will also provide breakfast for a fee, if you ask her.
