“Beautiful gardens overlooking the sea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

Had the privilege of staying literally next door to the Hanbury Gardens, hence soaked in the fabulous cypress trees and many of the flowers every day for a week before actually visiting the gardens. I'm told the best time to see the gardens is in spring, but even in July they are beautiful - many, many things to see, well structured and presented. I even noted a specially designed section for the blind! Very peaceful place!

“Weeds everywhere...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

We were looking forward to visiting the gardens during our trip, but unfortunately we were disappointed from the beginning. Parking was difficult (there is no parking lot; you park on the side of the road if you can find a place) and I wouldn't recommend walking there unless you are extremely fit.
I guess we should have taken this as a sign to not visit. Once we entered we noticed weeds all over the park and most of the plants are dying (of course plants bloom at a certain time of the year, but they all seem to be dead). It looked like the University of Genoa decided not to upkeep the gardens for quite some time.
I would not recommend visiting the site as it is not worth the entrance price (€7.50), parking is difficult and I am sure you can find some nicer looking gardens to visit in the area!

“Beautiful oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

We thought the gardens most beautiful. Although a lot of cactus there were masses of flowers including Jacaranda blossom, lilies and other unknown blooms. The terraces were designed with temples and follies at every turn. The choice of steps or walks along the terraces right down to the sea and to a little cafe where one could get a cool drink or ice cream was just right.

“Proud to be British!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

Thomas Hanbury has put Kew gardens and British botanical expertise well and truly in the forefront of gardening. Linked to the University of Genoa, the restoration of this fabulous landmark is constant. You could spend a whole day here and not see everything.
The Villa Hanbury has been featured in many popular films, the most recent being that of Princess Grace of Monaco. Well worth a visit, but do try a cool day as it's a steep climb in places.

“What a garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

We were told about these gardens and thought just had to visit. Well worth the try. It might be on the side of a hill but with so many plants to see that one didn't really notice that it was quite steep. Considering the garden has been there for over a hundred years it was well kept and the plants looked great
