“Nice hotel seaside in Ventimiglia”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

The hotel is renovated a couple of years ago, and it gives a clean and appealing impression. It is situated just across the road from the sea, where the city is constructing a marina, so the view is a bit spoiled right now. But there is anyway a fine view to the sea from the rooms with a small balcony.
And the rooms have an adequate size, beds ok and the bathroom functions well. Very limited toiletries (small shampoo, small handsoap - that's all).
Breakfast buffet with limited selection (the bread very poor) and coffee a disaster (Black Water) - but you can ask for an expresso in stead.
But the place in Ventimiglia (and free parking just in front of the hotel) and the nice renovated room makes the hotel a good choice here. And the staff was very friendly and helpfull and made us feel good.

Room Tip: Select a room on 4th or 5th floor with balcony and a nice sea view.

Pros - Fantastic location, halfway between the center of town and the best beach (10min walk each way). The hotel is also newer and nicer than its rival next door.

Cons - wifi. However I would have appreciated a wifi signal that is greater than 30% and especially one that doesn't kick you off every hour and require re-signing on every time from the codes on a receipt. Super silly!

Beware - Otherwise try not to get stuck with 2/3 floor rooms that have views obstructed by cypress trees, and also avoid paying extra for the sea view rooms that face the French side of the coast these are also currently blocked by the construction of the new marina.

Firstly, if like us you come to Ventimiglia by train don't be daunted by the directions to the hotel from the Internet. Basically go straight out of the station and head towards the beach where you'll see a bridge (there's another further up the road but will just take you the long way round-like we did!). Cross the bridge and stay on the coastal road and the hotel is at the end. It sounds far but the town is quite small and can be ventured in a day.
The hotel itself doesn't give much away from the outside but is very clean and modern. It has a breakfast room, restaurant, bar and wifi (you need to ask reception for the code). We booked the family room for 4 and although it wasn't as big as I had expected it proved spacious enough especially with the two doors leading to the balcony overlooking the sea, a must have! They are still building the marina btw!
Breakfast was ok, had meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs, pastries and bread rolls plus fruit and yogurt. Some may think quite basic but it is a continental breakfast - you are in Italy! If you want 5* then stay in one so you won't be disappointed. Overall good value for money only criticism is the lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room which is pretty standard these days. We did venture to the 24hr bar in the middle of the day but got shoo'd out of there by staff, telling us there were no rooms on that floor and closed the door in our
face! If like us your staying on the floor below expect some noise at night...we were so tired from being tourists that it didn't deprive us of any sleep but the music/chatter could be a nuisance!
It's a good bolt hole in such a beautiful place so don't have any reservations about staying here.

Just as an opener, I'm probably not stopping in Ventimiglia next time.
The town feels like its had better times. The roads are worn and bumpy, kerbs and pavements are broken and have grass growing up through. It's a shame really because its a missed opportunity. We went for a meal next to the hotel, and it was chock full at 7:30, many of which were French who had driven across the border to get some decent pasta. Ventimiglia ought to be a pretty tourist town with nice beach and great food.
They do seem to be building a harbour of kinds right in front of the hotel, which is hopeful, but I'm thinking the money would be better spent on shifting the pebbles off the beach and putting some nice sand there.

The hotel seems to have been renovated at some point, the rooms are bang up-to-date with large balcony (all the rooms have a good sea view), quality double glazing, and good blackout shutters. There is a safe in the room, which is free, free Internet (1.12 MB/s which is just fast enough to open web pages) TFT TV with English channels, a fridge, and the bathroom was really good.

Breakfast is included, and has the usual croissants, Parma hams, cheese, yoghurts. The orange juice tastes like neat aldi orange squash so avoid that. But the rest of it was good. Especially impressive was the range of English teas, big surprise there.

In stark contrast with France, the Italians really seem to like the English. When shopping in the town, we were asked if we were French, and when we said UK they got all animated and smiley.

As previously described, the restaurant next to the hotel does excellent pasta. I've never really understood why people pay £10 to eat spaghetti bolognaise in the UK, but in Italy the sauces, meats and vegetables are whole different ball game. I had the home-made fresh penne with lobster (because thats what the locals seemed to be eating) and it was fantastic. The missus had the fettuccine with Gorgonzola. Big servings and tasted fantastic. I'm dwelling on the restaurant because its location to the hotel is a big plus.

Okay, back to the hotel. The view out to sea was tremendous. We were on the 4th floor which is just above the trees outside the hotel. If you can, request to be on the 5th (top floor) which should give a tremendous view. We had a building site going on across the road (for the harbour) but that should be finished soon.
Turn to the left and you will see an ugly dilapidated empty building on the verge of collapsing inwards. Pretty typical for Ventimiglia, and best ignored. The sea view trumps all.

The receptionists are friendly and helpful. I'd say they give the hotel a degree of charm. I'd definitely stay in this hotel again, it's just a shame about the town as a whole.

Room Tip: Try to get onto the top floor. Also arrive early to get a convenient parking spot at the front of th...

We've been on holiday for 5 weeks through France, Switzerland and Italy. Always booked on the internet and have had mostly great accommodation. Not here however. The only thing I can recommend about this hotel is the view which is over a harbour that is being constructed. Sounds bad but is really quite beautiful. The room was quite small but had nice furnishings. We booked through the Internet and somehow were put in a smoking room. When questioned the staff member on duty said that the rooms were sprayed. She regretted our experience. So did we. The smell was so bad that we left the window open when going to sleep. This led to an interesting nocturnal jig. Up to close the window when the traffic noise bothered and then up again to open the window when the cigarette smell got too bad. The bathroom had a permanent smell and was of the sort that had a hand held shower head in a bath with no curtain or screen. Very uncomfortable. I don't eat a lot for breakfast but considered this breakfast mean in its offering. The 'free' parking is on the street and may or may not be available when you need it.

Room Tip: Perhaps if you get a non smoking room your experience will be better than mine.

We stayed one night in Sept 2012. Great location on the waterfront, but they were constructing a marina across the road and the outlook was more like a construction site when we stayed. On the plus side - parking was easy, there was an elevator to take the bags to the upper floors, and the rooms were a good size and very clean with comfortable beds. The welcome was somewhat underwhelming but probably on account of our complete lack of familiarity with the Italian language. Breakfast was ordinary. Couldn't get the air con to work. The safe in our room worked well - but only to lock the door! Opening the safe required management intervention. There was no iron available. Laundry was problematic as there was no same day laundry service in the hotel or at the laundromat/drycleaner in town.
