“Fun, but be aware of schedules!”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

Loved the ride ...but they are rigid about departure times....they won't wait!! We were using the machine to buy a ticket and although the conductor saw us, he left without us because that's when it was scheduled to depart. There was only one person on board.
We went to dinner on top and although the schedule said the last funicular down was at midnight, it actually stopped running at 8pm! We had to walk down!
It's a charming feature in this special town.

“A good way to go from the lower to the upper city”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

If staying in the lower city and you plan on going up to the upper city (Alta Cita), consider buying the multday pass. The frequency of cars depends on the time of day. We took the Funicolare up several times, but chose to walk down. For the easiest way down from the upper city, ask someone at one of the shops or restaurants near the Funicolare and they will explain the different options.
The Funicolare trip takes about 5 minutes. Walking down using the stairs took us between 10 to 15 minutes.

“Great views!”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Go on this even if you do not need to, to experience the great views of Bergamo. Then walk through the old town and go on the second Funicolare for even better views.
