Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni
Ranked #3 of 16 Hotels in Bellagio
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 11 August 2014 via mobile

This is truly a hotel worthy of its 5 star rating. The hotel is spectacular from the perfectly manicured gardens to delicious Italian cuisine by the pool.

The staff were very pleasant and made our time here very enjoyable.

Looking out over the pool to the lake was picture perfect.

I can't wait to come visit again.

I have just spent a week- end at the Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio. It was my second visit to this hotel and I would highly recommend it.It is a well run grand Italian hotel. The position is great and it is a pleasure to wake up and look out of the window at Lake Como.My only disappointment is that it is not possible to have breakfast outside.

A beautiful old world hotel in an exquisite location. Our lake view room was spacious and comfortable. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. The concierge was extremely helpful as was all the staff.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a room with a view of Lake Como. We were on the ground floor facing the lake and...

This Hotel left a lasting impression on me and my family as well.
It has breathtaking views, incredible service, amazing facilities, excellent food and beverages, and the most comfortable bed I've slept on so far. (It may sound silly but I still long for the duvet... In fact, I almost bought it.)
The room was unexpectedly spacious and amazingly clean. The covers smelled like fresh linen the whole stay, the towels were top of the line (not the expected and usual cardboard-like hotel towels), and even the shampoo, soap, conditioner and lotion were top quality.
Overall, the hotel is an exceptional choice, since it is also located centrally, near shops, restaurants and the dock.
The staff is exceptional as well, they are all very attentive, polite, friendly, informed and willing to even suggest meals, activities, shops and anything you might like or crave.
They will certainly make you feel like royalty at all times. And the views, the setting, the decor and layout of the hotel will also help in making you feel like you're staying at your very own summer palace, a luscious and luxurious- yet familiar- place to call a home away from home.
This hotel stay will be something of an investment, since it is in no way cheap, but it is well worth it and you will not regret it.

This hotel was among the best of any I have been in. It was expensive but with the splurge. The rooms were clean and nice. Average in size. The views are amazing. The pool fabulous. The location perfect! The bar and restaurants incredible. I can't wait to go back - which I will!

Overall, our favorite hotel of the four hotels that we stayed in during our anniversary trip trip to Northern Italy.

Above all, the LOCATION ... The GHVS sits on the edge of Lake Como in Bellagio with wonderful views and immediate access to the town and ferries. Could not ask for better. Hop over to the ferry next door to explore other lake towns. Meander over to shopping and waterfront restaurants. Or, swim in the lake, lie on the beach, take in the mountain views and sunset over the lake... all from the hotel. Isn't this why we visit Bellagio?

Next is the SERVICE. Flawless. Not at all "snooty." Helpful, warm and friendly. Francesco and Roberto (Concierge) as well as the lovely Mauro (30 years at GHVS!) take the greatest pride in providing flawless service. Francesco was our go-to guy before we arrived for our first visit to Bellagio. He patiently answered the many questions that I emailed in advance and proved to be equally impressive in person. Roberto personally purchased local train tickets for us, telling us that it was his pleasure to do so! Mauro welcomed us to Bellagio with conversation about life in town and wonderful suggestions for activities. Several times Mauro would approach us to ask about our day and how we were enjoying our stay. Everyone made us feel right at home. When we checked out of the GHVS, there were handshakes all around and warm invitations to return.

Housekeeping and the wait staff are also lovely. Smiling and always helpful. For instance, I found the mattress a bit hard the first night and had fashioned a "nest" of blankets to sleep on. Our housekeeper must have noticed this because "voila"...a soft mattress pad was added to our bed. Much better, and I didn't even have to ask!

Check in and check out were smooth and pleasant. We were welcomed to the hotel with prosecco and strawberries sent to our room -- very nice!

Our ROOM (211) was lovely. We booked a Classic, Lake View and got exactly that. It looked just like the photos on line and we had a gorgeous, direct view of the lake from two windows. No balcony so I was a little disappointed, though I was told in advance that there a only a few rooms with balconies and I could see that is the case. I am still not sure how, or if, you can reserve/book a room with a balcony in advance. (During our stay, we were shown one balcony room on the top floor with a partial view -- the height of the balcony obscured the lake a bit. We didn't switch rooms).

Still, our room did provide a fabulous lake view from the windows. It was tastefully furnished. Not fancy, but comfortable (this description includes the bathroom). The location was a bit noisy over the parking lot and main entrance -- in the first of the three building sections in the hotel; I imagine that the other two sections are quieter. The a/c unit was loud enough to block out any noise at night so we slept soundly.

The FOOD. We never expect much from hotel restaurants -- generally, overpriced and underwhelming -- and so we did not dinner eat at the main GHVS restaurant and opted to eat dinner in town. We did enjoy sandwiches from the beach side patio bar (relaxed lunch on the beach!). But, our meal at the more formal pool side restaurant was not great. The gazpacho and lasagna were tasty, but the pizza was so salty that we could not eat it and the salad was swimming in dressing. Oh well.

The HOTEL BUILDING itself is impressive and retains old world style. We enjoyed the long marble hallways, antique furnishings and grand public spaces -- especially the beautiful breakfast room. The hotel pool is clean and huge, although we did not swim. We enjoyed lying on the hotel beach loungers and watching the adventurous jump from the platform diving board into the cold lake...my husband took one plunge himself! From here, you can view the ferries and motor boats and small towns across the lake. So relaxing. Truly, one of our best memories of Lake Como and the GHVS.

Room Tip: Lake view is worth the price tag. The first section of the building closest to the street is louder...

The Villa Serbelloni is magnificent in nearly every way. We had a lake view room that we enjoyed mornings and evening. You can see from Menaggio to Tremezzo and the Villa Carlotta. The mountain background was breathtaking. The room was comfortable, the staff attentive and friendly. One evening we wanted to eat in one of the hotel restaurants so the head concierge gave us a tour of the last renovation about 20 years prior as he led us to the restaurant. And the food was superb and the wait staff very attentive. We ended up eating there twice. Breakfast was wonderful with fresh choices of eggs, bacon, cured meats, cheeses, fruit etc. Too much too mention. The breakfast manager was fun to watch as he was sensitive to food presentation and constantly rearranging food and making certain all was fresh. The decor was elegant and the sitting rooms very comfortable. When we return to Lake Como we will stay here again, no hesitation. It is ideally located for Bellagio shopping or hopping around to the other towns.

Room Tip: Get lakeview, you won't be disappointed.
