“Basic, noisy but great location”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

Old hotel with old hotel problems. I had a single first two nights of three night stay. Very basic small small room. Small single bed. One of the narrowest bathrooms ever. But it was the noise in the place more than anything. The walls are paper thin. If you are thinking of going there for romance you are going to have to restrain yourself (or not; up to you ...and the other guests in the corridor, in the room next door and possibly in the alleyway outside). For my room I had the pleasure of a low base noise and heavy vibration everytme one of the larger ferries docked in front of the hotel. It reminded me of the cold war 'brown noise' experiments. The staff were pleasant and helpful. By contrast the staff in the restaurant downstairs were a bit cool unless you were one of the visiting family members. These lot seemed to be having some nightly celebrations which the whole hotel had the pleasure of enjoying between 11 and midnight each night I was there. Suggest if you want to stay on central lake Como try one of the less commercialised towns and just visit Bellagio. You will get better bang for your buck. certainly wouldn't recommend Hotel du Lac if you do choose Bellagio.

We spent six nights in Aug in this charming hotel. Great location, great staff, clean and big room. We really enjoyed our holiday in Bellagio and the hotel is always an important part of it. Nothing to complain about. I would recomend my friends and familiy to stay here if they were going to lake of Como.

Really poor service overpriced and dirty. We were given a small bag with biscuits in after spending 150 euros between 2 of us. The bag had flies in. Pointed this out and complained however they just took them away rudely. The old lady waitress who served us was really miserable. The main courses were really poor. Please don't waste your money here there are so many proper Italian restaurants near by.

This is a hotel with minimal service, just don't be surprised! If you call them to get a shampoo and they ask you to go and pick it up!
The Internet is free, but it gets disconnected immediately if you don't use it for a few seconds!
The rooms are very simple but clean.
Over all, I won't be back to this hotel again.

I had high hopes for this hotel, having heard many good things about it. The location is convenient if you plan to use the ferries a lot, and the views of the lake at breakfast are terrific. We booked two rooms because we were travelling with our children, and both were uncomfortably warm, although our room was by far the warmer of the two. Too warm to really get a decent night's sleep. (I am a Florida native so have a pretty high tolerance for heat.) It was during a very hot period but I would still expect the rooms to be reasonably cool if the hotel advertises A/C. We mentioned this twice but got no real response which was pretty disappointing. We also booked lake view rooms but since we were on the side of the hotel, the lake view was partial at best. I made the booking months ago so we weren't last-minute bookers being squeezed in. The decor is homey but our rooms were really pretty tired and in need of freshening up. Clean but just looking a bit worn out, stained carpet, etc. Having to walk 15 minutes to use the pool and then not being able to find a chair to sit on at the crowded local pool club was also a let-down. Better than nothing but not as expected. The staff was friendly enough but not particularly attentive or responsive in any way. Maybe if we hadn't just left such a terrific hotel in Venice, this hotel might have seemed better. Or maybe we just got some lousy rooms because of our late check-in time. (7:30 pm). I wish I could be more positive but found this hotel to be very over-priced for the quality of our experience.

Room Tip: There are better hotels than this in Bellagio for the money. But if you stay here and your room seem...

We had great expectations for Bellagio and Hotel du Lac but it was not to be. Bellagio is supposed to be the pearl of the lake but it struck us as too touristy. The Hotel du Lac was a let down also. We arrived by car, adding the challenge of finding parking. The hotel staff basically directed us to street (metered) parking...not the best arrangement. The hotel is showing it's age. It's clean but tired. It is located directly across the street from the Bellagio ferry terminal. That sounds convenient (if you are going to use the ferrys to get to other lake locations) but it also means that noisy, smelly ferries will be coming and going for most of the day and with each arrival, there will be lots of crowds. We thought the hotel had a pool...which would have been nice. We learned that you get a pass to use the pool at a nearby location (we didn't even bother). I don't know about all of the floors, but on our level there were several small flights of stairs to negotiate from the elevator (which is tiny and slow) and our room. Be prepared to carry your bags up these stairs, even after you get off the elevator.

Room Tip: If you have a room that overlooks the lake, you'll be listening to the ferries and the street.

I stayed on the top floor which had a Terrasse over looking the lake. My room had a large queen size bed and a single bed. The ensuite had a bath with overhead shower and plenty of room. There was a small private balcony as well. A large walk in robe completed the room. The service was helpful, the breakfast was adequate for my needs, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, pastries and if you like meat and cheese there was some of that as well. I booked via Booking.com and paid about €250 per night for a room which would more than suit 3 people. It is true it is not the most modern of decor but it clean and well kept. They have a shuttle to the "Bellagio Country Club" where you can swim for free, I didn't check that out though. I swam in the lake at Varenna.
