It's certainly worth booking a room with a view of the glorious lake if you are there for a few days. Our room was small but the bathroom was roomy and had a bath, something I love to soak in after all the foot slogging you do on holiday. We didn't like the first room we were in on the second floor, it put me in mind of a room in a twilight home for the confused and bewildered. The brown veneer and pokey bathroom were depressing and the windows looked onto the roof of the awning. We were given a couple of alternatives and opted for the charming room with French door on the fifth floor. There is also a room terrace no one told us about and it's lovely for the view and additional space. The owners are helpful, Jane is English so no language barrier and everyone is willing to please. It must be hard keeping everyone happy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Bellagio should be rated as one of the nicest places to stay, little traffic, lots of lanes to explore, restaurants abound and nice shops. Visit Villa Melzi, a lovely walk from the hotel to the house and gardens: not to be missed. Also, go to Varenna as it is delightful and only a short hop on the ferry. Buy a ferry shuttle ticket for 15 Euro for hop on, hop off value.

Basically, if you want a room that looks out over the lake, you have to expect a bit of noise from the wharf. Just shut the window and turn on the air con! The room was comfortable, though when we opened the bathroom window, we seemed to be looking into somebody's kitchen across the alley, and the locals seemed to chat loudly in the alley, far later than the public address system on the wharf, but that's Italy: live with it!

Comfortable, excellent breakfasts (they even had teapots!), the dinner we had there one night was pricey but well worth it, and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. We will be looking back on this place with pleasure for some time.

Room Tip: In the height of summer, higher floors are probably quieter, and I rather suspect that non-lake-view...

We stayed for a week and were very happy with the hotel - great location just opposite the ferry terminal (no noise to speak of) and very close to great restaurants etc.

We had a 5th floor room with balcony although there's a much larger terrace also on the 5th floor which has a great view of the lake.

The breakfast was OK but exactly the same everyday with a relatively limited (but adequate) choice of foods etc. Service was OK. This was the only adverse part of the hotel.

Staff were very helpful at the reception.

We'd stay at the hotel again.

Room Tip: Stay on the 5th floor with balcony

We stayed here for 2 nights during our two week stay in lake como. at a price of €220 per night it was by far the most expensive of all hotels we stayed in during our time here, however bellagio is very expensive to stay in. We stayed because if you dont, you cant sample the lovely restaurants in the area at night as the boats dont run at night.
The hotel is basic, but clean, however the rooms are very large, we did not have a balcony but our windows looked out directly at the ferry stop giving fantastic views of the lake.
The staff were extremely pleasent and helpful with great english.
We also stayed in tremmezzo, menaggio, varenna and bellagio was the nicest of the four towns we stayed as it has lots of lovely restaurants with cobble streets and little shops.
Downside would be, on the first day we arrived we had a storm so we had to stay indoors, the internet was down and there was no english tv stations on the dozens of stations they had. this was dissapointing considering how many english people visit here. The internet was back working, the following morning.
The pool is a 20 min walk away which is a nice walk but you can get a free transfer also.
the pool is really nice, and has lovely tennis courts also. the food was really nice here also however it was a little expensive but not overly so. We went to the pool in the morning and it was really quite and relaxing up until 1.30pm when the place turned into a zoo of kids. if you have kids this would be great as they have lots of kids to play with, however if you dont you may want to visit the pool in the mornings, in fairness the hotel does tell you this.
The breakfast was also very nice, lots to choose from. only ordinary coffee tho. no cappacinos :(. the breakfast room has a balcony looking out over the lake too which is lovely :)
all in all I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in room 15. it doesnt have a balcony but i dont think it would be worth it to pay extra for...

We stayed at the Hotel Du Lac for 2 nights at the end of an epic holiday through France and Italy. The hotel is tired and without a doubt could do with some attention and some money spending on it. However, as a town, Bellagio feels oldy worldy and the cobbled streets and tiny boutiques that are sandwiched between these old hotels mean that they really only suit dated décor and gawdy fixtures and fittings. A modern monstrosity would not suit the area at all. The staff were friendly enough and whilst on first impressions the bedrooms were stark and overly simple, as soon as we realised that we had gorgeous little balconies overlooking a tiny side street, a view of Lake Como, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large with powerful hot showers, we settled in immediately. Situated literally 10 meters from the edge of Lake Como, this hotel has a bar terrace where you could idle the hours away. Right in front of the hotel is the boat dock for trips to other towns around the lake, for 15 euros. The hotel is also surrounded by beautiful shops and restaurants. The breakfast was fresh and tasty and the coffee some of the best I had on the whole trip. The hotel also benefits from a roof terrace with the most incredible views ever. If you are not too bothered by luxury and are looking for a cost effective and practical solution in the most beautiful town in Italy, then I would recommend the Hotel Du Lac.

We shall have everlasting memories of our stay at the Hotel Du Lac in Bellagio because - our accommodation was extremely delightful with relaxing neutral décor, air conditioning and a comfortable bed to ensure a good night's sleep ready to enjoy the next day. The start of a new day began with a splendid breakfast, lots of choice from cereals to fresh fruit and, everything else in between, deliciously enjoyed, seated on the balcony watching this lovely town begin to awake. Every member of staff that we met were always polite and passed the time of day. The hospitality here made us feel welcome and at ease. We enjoyed meals, under the porticoes, served by ever pleasant waiters. The Hotel Splendide 's riverside café is well worth a visit for another nice place to eat. Bellagio shops must be visited for a unique shopping experience and use the ferries to find other pretty destinations that are dotted along the lake. Como is bustling and busy with a large market on Saturdays, compared to Varenna which has a charming, slower pace of life giving the expression that this time will go on forever. Unfortunately, your holiday does not!
We did not use the pool or fitness centre at the Bellagio Sporting Club so therefore cannot comment on those.
