“Excellent lunch and professional staff”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

We walked from Bellagio following one of the trails and headed to Pescallo for lunch. It is set in a serene jewelled harbour looking across the lake. We had only a salad Caprese and the Insalata La Pergola (a full salad with smoked trout) and a beer. This lasted for 90 minutes while we chatted and absorbed the views and tranquility. Finally a coffee and we were off to continue our walk
The staff were friendly and extremely well trained; we plan to go back one evening for dinner (but must reserve a table)

“Great view horrible service”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Beautiful view on edge of lake. Waiter and owner must be "French" they were rude and ignored us. Service was slow portions small and bill high $$$$ all added up to a lousey experience. The owner billed us for wrong meals and was offended when I asked him to correct his error.

“A dream of a restaurant overlooking Lake Como...”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

Whilst staying in Bellagio, we took the twenty minute walk to the hamlet of Pescallo on the last day of our holiday. The sun was shining and La Pergola's restaurant on their terrace looked ever so inviting. Sipping on glasses of wine while perusing their short but enticing menu, we both ordered "carne" dishes, as we had been dining on fish regularly for a good many days. More specifically, my wife ordered a filet steak accompanied by a peppercorn sauce and I ordered the same but in strips on a bed of rocket, with fresh cherry-type tomatoes atop. In a word, superb. Beautifully and simply presented and matched by the taste.

For dessert, I opted for their chocolate tart with "molten" chocolate in the centre and that too was most pleasing. Both of us finished the meal with a cappuccino. They were exceptionally good as well, but that's what one expects in Italy.

All in all, a splendid way to end our holiday over a long and leisurely meal overlooking the most beautiful setting one could ask for.

“Worth the money, just for the atmosphere and view”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We have been coming to this small family-owned restaurant since 2006 so we were a little worried this trip after reading very mixed reports on Trip Advisor, it had been two years since our last visit.

We had met a couple from Australia whilst in Bellagio, so we made it a booking for four people on a perfectly clear and mild evening. But would the food be any good?

Firstly, is this place worth a visit just for the location, views and atmosphere? Absolutely. You feel like you are in heaven with the bobbing boats, the views across Lake Como and the elegant setting of the restaurant.

Secondly, what about the service? Traditionally, we have found the family very "conservative" to say the least. On this visit it was apparent that too many people were saying the service here was downright rude, so it was good to see the staff being polite and friendly. A nice change.

Thirdly, what about the food. Mmmmmmm, overall not too bad. At around US$45.00 per person including wine it is cheap by Australian standards but still about double what you pay at other restaurants (without the views) around Bellagio.

The risotto was excellent, whilst my wife, Kathy, ordered perch with rice and a curry source. As the saying goes, if you want a good curry then go to India. This is Italy. Italians don't make a good curry source. Disappointing.

The wine selection was really good as was the deserts to complete the meal.

So would we recommend this restaurant that we have found so enchanting for over eight years? Yes. But maybe as a once only experience to embrace the wonderful location, views and setting on a clear summer's night in Lake Como.

But if you are after a good value meal, without the views there are better places all around Bellagio.

You chose.

“Position perfect, don't rule them out as unfriendly”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We stayed three nights at La Pergola, and noticed on reviews prior to arriving, that staff were reviewed as unfriendly. In actual fact, they are a lovely group of three generations of family members, where the business has been in their family for decades. At first impressions, they are not smiley at all, but we found they were very generous and would do anything for you. We noticed that those guests who mirror the family's demeanour did not enjoy their meals nor stay.

We tried something different and smiled at them and greeted them warmly, and what seems like brusqueness evaporated. For whatever reason, they don't smile as much as other restaurant/hotel owners as they are a gentle and somewhat shy family, but don't ruin your visit thinking they are unfriendly, as they have a heart of gold.

All that aside, the building is amazing, approximately 500-600 years old, and they are positioned right on the lake itself. Views to die for.

We both had trout and vegetables the first night. Delicious and well priced at €14. If you like gooey chocolate cake with moist hot sauce flowing from the centre, try the chocolate pie for €9. Yum.

Breakfasts overlooking the lake were delicious also. Rooms clean and very comfortable.

Please understand that this hotel is located in a stunning little hamlet called Pescallo within Bellagio, but you must walk over the hill (about 10 minutes of steps) to get there.

I would definitely stay/eat there again.
