“Great Location... would go back.. but not to the restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2008

After spending a few Days at this location we were thrilled on the decision we had made. Junior Suite #26 is by far the most charming stay we had during our two week European tour.

To describe Hotel Florence is simple: enjoyable, spacious, excellent location and getting to know TIm at the bar during the day will add to your experience a great deal. he was very helpful, friendly and had some great reccomondations. the views of the lake were unreal. wathcing the full moon glisten off the lake our of one of the many balconies could not be more romantic. morning sun to awake you with the bustling streeet below, but NOT TOO busy, so don't worry.

** the negatives***
watch out for the battle axe that runs the breakfast. bless her heart she works day and night with little help and it shows. overworked and a bit callus because of it.
secondly
FOOD: unfortunatley i cannot highly reccomend the restaurant. The ambiance of the lakefront outdoor patio is hard to top but that is where it stops... i hope it was the case of us ordering the wrong food but nearly every dish was awful, especially for the price. this did not take away from our enjoyable accomodations but it did hurt the pocket book at the price of a sub-par meal that was anything from cheap. we had several courses and none hit the mark. fish, overdone. shrimp, mealy and still had the inerts attached. an eggplant antipasti that resembled a mushy dumpling with no flavor at all...

the highilght being a primi piatti of pasta that was marginal.

so: enjoy the hotel, the bar and check on the food before having dinner. i am sure we hit an off night which was a bummer but happens.

My family of 5 adults stayed at the Hotel Florence in June and enjoyed our stay and the hotel very much. Great location with great views. Very friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant with excellent food and great lakeside dining. Spectacular setting on beautiful Lake Como. My daughter found the hotel on some type of online search and called the hotel directly to book the rooms several months in advance. I checked on TripAdvisor and found that many people had enjoyed this property. We were pleasantly suprised to find Bellagio not crowded in June and the locals told us that there are much fewer Americans vacationing this year. We were also pleased that the shops and restaurants seemed very affordable. We will definitely go back.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in June. This is a beautiful little hotel, located right on gorgeous Lake Como. We had a very large corner room with a view of lake and mountains, a huge bathroom and a separate sitting room. Very good value at just over 200 Euros a night, including breakfast. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, no closets but a large armoire to hold clothes. Very comfortable king bed. (Supposedly Mark Twain stayed here a very long time ago! ) The staff was very helpful and friendly when we asked for dining recommendations other than their own restaurant.
The stop for the ferry boats traveling up and down Lake Como was across and down the street a little. We parked the car when we arrived and never used it again for the duration of the stay, as we just took the boats to all the little towns and walked around. A very nice breakfast (including bacon and eggs) was served on the first floor in a beautiful large dining room with a vaulted ceiling.
My husband, who stays in 5-star hotels when he travels for business, was really impressed, especially when you consider this is only a 3-star, according to the Italian tourist bureau. (I think this is because there are a few rooms that don't have a private bath.) We loved Lake Como, we loved Bellagio, and we really loved the Hotel Florence. Just a great value and a great experience.

Bellagio is a truly magical destination and the Hotel Florence is the ONLY place to stay. After reading reviews on tripadvisor and receiving a recommendation from a friend, we booked a corner room (No 43, closest to the Villa Serbelloni) on the top floor for 3 nights. The room was amazing - two balconies (one on each side) and full length windows with sweeping views of the lake to the alps. There were snow-capped peaks in late April, which was an incredible contrast with the sunny and warm lakeside environment dripping with wisteria and spring flowers.

Inside the room is well-designed and well appointed with quality fittings, fabrics and fixtures. Bathroom is a bit dark, but clean, renovated and spacious (quality bath products provided including great olive-oil soap). From memory there was no shower - only a bath - this is not unusual in Italy.

Service at this hotel is ultra-friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff have so much fun and energy. They engage you like 'one of the family' (but not in an intrusive way) and it's hard not to smile every time you set foot in the place. The way the waiters and bar-staff move around the whole hotel is a spectacle in itself - they put on an impressive show and if given the chance will have you in fits of laughter.

The restaurant is quite good (it has a formal scene on first floor and informal in a lake-side terrace across the road). The bar is vibrant and a place for locals as well as tourists, who were mostly Italian at this time of year anyway. (Some good people-watching can be done at the bar's outside tables - northern Italian women love their bling!) The hotel also has some quiet areas, including the room fronting reception where a warming fire is ablaze on cool evenings and a large library/sitting area on the first floor. The interior designers have done a great job and the hotel is decked out with a wonderful eclectic mix of antique furniture recovered in colourful fabrics.

Can't recommend this place highly enough, but make sure you are not disappointed by ensuring you get the magical views - book a high floor room (preferably the corner room) or a front room on the top floor if the corner is not available . Thanks to all the staff (Franco, Dimi and amazing girl on reception) for making our stay so memorable.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Florence for four nights (June 07) while on our honeymoon.
The hotel arranged for a car to pick us up at the airport in Milan (and later take us to the railway station in Milan). Yes, I'm sure it would have been cheaper to take the ferry and/or bus but after a transatlantic flight it was wonderful to be whisked (along with our luggage) to the hotel.
Our contact with the desk staff was always positive. They were always helpful- from info on reserving a boat excursion to ferry information to even directing us to the closest pharmacy.
The breakfasts were better than expected. They had the standard cereals, yogurt, & breads one expects in Europe but also had scrambled eggs, bacon, & sausages.
We didn't go to the hotel restaurant so we cannot comment on it.
But the best was our room. We had a large (ok, huge) corner room facing out onto the lake. The bathroom was large and there was also a side sitting room. Our favorite memories of Bellagio are looking out of our room's windows & balcony. We people & dog watched on the street below (they were even filming a movie while we were there). But most amazing was watching the lake. Obviously you could observe the ferries come and go but also clouds and shadows as the weather and time of day changed. It was peaceful and unbelievably beautiful!

Bellagio is an amazing place and the Hotel Florence is perfectly placed for you to enjoy the best this town and the lake have to offer.

We stayed at the Hotel Florence for four nights. Two nights in a room with a shared terrace ( 5 ) and the other two in a junior suite (26 ) with a balcony . Both rooms overlooked the lake and were styled authentically for their location. The hotel was clean and the rooms well maintained and the ambience of the hotel was special...naturally the views were spectacular . Breakfast was typically Italian and the staff were very helpful . Street parking is available at no charge if you park in the appropriately marked bays available. One definite "MUST DO" side visit is to the Villa Barbianello ...an absolute Gem of a Villa ( and we have seen a few )
On the negative side ...they have NO internet facility ...even if you bring a computer.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
