“what a gem”
Reviewed 14 October 2008

we booked this hotel direct via their internet site and what a gem...........The most beautiful location and direct views that you will find and worth paying that little bit extre for a lake view.........after all that is what you are their for. The room was very spacious and a beautiful roll top bath was great.

The staff were very helpfull and not one fault can I tell you about..............one day was not enough

If you do visit this area please seek out the wine bar just up a narrow street by where the cars board the ferry. Vaulted cailings and the best wine selection ever. You can also have a selection of cold meats and cheeses although its not a restaurant. Very small but perfect for a romantic night.

You will not be dissapointed!!!!!!!

When the door was opened to our room and I drew the curtains it brought tears to my eyes! Our 4th floor room had ceiling to floor windows that faced the lake. The actual room was a comfortable size and the furnishings were in keeping with the four hundred year old building. The hot water system also was in keeping with the age of the building! At times it took some minutes for the hot water to travel from the depths of the ground, up the four floors and out the bath tap but, hey, while you were waiting you could take another look at that view! There was some noise that came from the ferries but this did not occur at night time when you were sleeping and it didn't bother us during the day. The breakfast room was beautiful. There were our top breakfast picks - meusli, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. The location was excellent - close to the ferry. By the time we had caught a train from Lucerne to Como, wheeled our bags in drizzling rain from the station to the ferry terminal in Como and then caught the ferry to Bellagio we were very happy to walk only a few steps from the ferry terminal to Hotel Florence.

Hotel Florence is a lovely hotel, with a beautiful ambiance that makes you feel you like you are a special guest not just a paying customer.

The staff are very friendly and accomodating with advice given on parking (where & when its free) and driving (advice to take the car ferry across the lake to make better time for our flight out of Milan was GOLD) .

The hotel is very centrally located on the main strip facing the lake, 1 minute walk to the ferry ticket office which is very handy for day trips to other towns around Lago di Como. It is on a road but as the traffic is restricted in this area there is no road noise to speak of.

The resturant outdoor seating is directly on the lake with million dollar sunset views which whilst it adds to the menu prices, I would definately recommend if the budget allows as the food and service were great and views unbeatable. Breakfasts were also good with a small hot selection of eggs and bacon and lovely fresh fruit salads and croissants and the usual continental fare.

The Hotel has been renovated tastefully whilst maintaining a very individual style for each room and great Bathrooms. This is however an old building with the creaks and groans and floorboards that go with it so if you are a light sleeper I would recommend a room further from the elevator having said this most guests are in by midnight so little in the way of early morning noise.

If you want the best lake views with a private terrace (perfect honeymoon room) I was told you should request rooms 1 or 3. For summer this is the perfect spot to sip a glass of wine and watch the lake. I had a room at the back of the hotel which was lovely for the summer and to open your windows to the light breezes.

The Hotel Florence was perfect for our stay Bellagio, which is truely one of the most beautiful places in Italy.

We had a great five night stay in the hotel at the beginning of September. Weather was awful - rain every day, but the hotel was all we wanted and more. We had two rooms at the front of the hotel - despite advertising that the rooms don;t have air conditioning, our friends room did. Ours next door, did not. This was not a big problem - we kept our window open at night and there was some noise from the street directly below, but Bellagio is not exactly a rowdy place so it never went on late into the night.
All the staff were excellent - from the check in staff to the one lady who coped with everyone's demands at breakfast. Don't believe the reviews that say she's rude - she was courteous and polite to everyone during our stay despite encountering some very demanding guests who expected her English to be perfect. The spa was not cheap and you do have to give two hours notice as its only open by appointment which is a pity, but the time we spent there was enjoyable. Cost of massage was 40 euros for half an hour - and it was very good. Breakfasts could not be faulted. We didn;t eat in the hotel restaurant as it was pricey compared to other local restaurants and there are plenty of good ones a few minutes walk from the hotel. Would definitely stay there again if in the area.

Hotel Florence is a wonderful hotel right in the heart of Bellagio! We stayed 3 nights in August. Check in was a breeze and staff was helpful. We did not experience any of the front desk issues other reviewers had. Rooms were very clean and I thought the beds and Linens were the best we had through our 18 days in Italy staying in various hotels. The only draw back is the shower as it is actually a tub with a hand shower and no shower curtain, so you must sit in the bath to shower. The Spa is nice, but small (costs extra) and we had massages were were just fantastic. Breatfast was included and excellent with eggs, bacon, meats fruit etc! Rate this hotel an A+

We've just returned from a two week trip to europe, having spent 2 nights at THe Hotel Florence in Bellagio. All in all a wonderful experience. Bellagio is "postcard perfect". The perfect place to decompress and enjoy the food, wine and atmosphere. The hotel was great.....super room with a view of the lake (a requirement...views like that are few and far between) Service at the bar, and terrece restaurant was excellent and personable ( Franco is pretty funny...) One big exception however was Christin at the front desk. We checked in in the evening after a very long day of travel and was greeted with disintest and the distinct impression we were annoying him. His attitude was curt , bordering on rude. We may have written it off to him having a bad day, however apon check-out it was even WORSE ! He gives a VERY bad impression of the hotel !!!!He was the only negitave aspect to our stay at the Hotel florence.

We just got back from our trip to Europe which included a stay at Lac Como at the Florence. First off the hotel is great however the guy at desk at night is the pits. All other dealings were with the female staff during the day and they went out of their way to assist. If you stay you must insist on a lakeview. The view is beathtaking. Despite other reviews there is air conditioning however in order for the controller to work it has to be activated from the front desk. The first night we slept with the floor to ceiling window open. Word to the wise the ferrys docked in front start early so it will wake you. Next night we put on the a/c and closed the window and slept great. This hotel has the restaurant across the street( open air lakeside) and the food and service is great. Nothing to do with the hotel but getting to Como is a problem. We landed at Mappensa airport and in order to get there we had to order a van( 2 couples) and the cost was 180 Euros plus the road in is a real adventure. Same with leaving ..we had to be at the airport at a certain time and again had to order a van. Once there there are a lot of great restaurants and a geat little vintage wine bar. I wanted to swim in the lake but could not locate an area to swim at. I was told laterr that there was a beach but never found it.
