We were staying here for our son's wedding and the rooms we were given (numbers 5 and 6) were just outstanding! They both opened out on to a huge balcony which overlooked the Lake and street below - just perfect! We were able to hold cocktail parties on our balcony each evening for all the guests going to the wedding ( about 60 people) with plenty of room!
The staff were friendly and helpful; staff at breakfast were particularly nice and couldn't do enough for us. The rest of the hotel staff, from front desk to room service were also great and even ironed our shirts etc on the day of the wedding - nothing was too much trouble! Fantastic location for everything and would love to go back again!

This hotel is not prepared to accomoodate disabled people at all. My mother had to use the service stairs with the house keepers and not the regular stairs to go to the breakfast room. Reception very unpleasant and very rude and very poor. Mom was celebrating her 80th birthday and I advised them about that. They provided her with a Glass of Wine..a glass. They new ahead of time about this event. They could have been more pleasant.

I booked 3 nights at Hotel Florence in Bellagio as a surprise for my wife's 30th birthday and I'm pleased to say that it more than lived up to my high expectations.

The hotel arranged in advance for a car to pick us from Malpensa airport. A slightly extravagant choice at €160 for a one way journey but in our opinion much less stressful than the alternative of two trains and a ferry. A warning for anyone who is easily car sick, we were both feeling slightly queasy after an hour journey up the steep winding roads leading to Bellagio.

Upon arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by the reception desk and checked in with minimal fuss. We had a suite on the first floor with large shared terrace overlooking the lake. The large room and separate sitting area both had lovely high ceilings and were tastefully decorated. The view from the terrace was beautiful and well worth the extra charge. Anyone expecting modern facilities found in most 4/5 star hotels will be disapointed (no air-con, no shower, no mini-bar, no satelite TV etc) but in our opinion this added to the faded glamour and traditional appeal of the hotel. The staff proved very helpful and friendly throughout our stay, contrary to previous reviews.

The town of Bellagio is quite small and you could expore it's steep cobbled streets and most of the surroundng area in a day. However, it's central position on the lake makes it a perfect base to explore the other towns bordering the lake, most of which are linked by the efficient ferry service. An all-day ticket for "mid-lake" destinations costs €11. We managed to visit Lenno, Tremezzo and Menaggio quite easliy in one day, all which were charming in their own way but none made us regret choosing Bellagio as our temporary home.

One of the highlights of our trip was lunch at Locanda dell' Isola Comacina. A leisurely 7 course menu twhich has been served unchanged for the last 40 years or more, spread over the best part of 3 hours in a very picturesque setting on an island south of Bellagio. The meal was rounded off with a coffee making ritual which the charismatic host tells us protects diners from the evil spirits on the cursed island. A little corny but all part of the fun.

We found the food in general in Bellagio to be good, although expect to pay a premium for any meal or drinks served at establishments with a lake view. We can recommend the Hotel Florence restaurant (lovely setting on the lake) and a small wine bar tucked up a side street at the south end of town by the car ferry (great service and advice on local wines)

Our three days in Bellagio were everything I had hoped for and close to perfect in every respect.

We booked a little late and they did not have any lakefront rooms left. No matter, we had a gorgeous view of the hillside behind and a great room. My only very minor complaint is there is no shower. The included breakfast was very good with good service by one (very busy) server. We also had dinner there once and I would highly recommend. Bellagio is such a beautiful, tranquil place and this hotel only enhanced the experience for us. Parking wasn't too much of an issue, we were able to get a "freebie" spot and just left it there for the duration of our stay. I would say that finding it was just a little tough...but we arrived at night and in a driving rain.

Bellagio is beautiful but you might want to consider another town on the lake (or on Lake Lugano or Maggiore) unless you plan to just hang out at the hotel and enjoy the views. We had a car, and it was difficult to take day trips..the options are either the long, tedious drive toward Como or the car ferry. There is not much to do in Bellagio. Also, we would not stay at Hotel Florence again. For the price, we would expect a more cordial hotel staff...the woman at the desk didn't greet us or ask if we enjoyed our stay when we left...she seemed annoyed when we asked questions about the area. We also didn't get the wake up call we requested. We felt that the breakfast buffet, although extensive, was of poor quality for the price of the hotel. We actually considered leaving a couple of days early, but the cancellation policy is one of the strictest I've seen. The good things about the hotel were excellent housekeeping, high ceilings in the rooms, and a wonderful view of the lake. Other negatives are no pool and difficulty in parking (we had to move our car each night after 8 pm).

We knew that we had picked a good location when we could see the hotel from the boat as we were arriving at Bellagio. They are one of quite a few lake front hotels in the beautiful small town. We did have a lake view room with a queen bed . The room was fairly small by U.S. standards, but fine. The hotel is not air conditioned, and I wondered about that. But, we were very comfortable. The daily highs (July, 2009) were maybe in the low 80s and we had a nice breeze through our window and a nice little room fan - so we were very comfortable. The staff were fine. The included breakfast was very good - both hot and cold food. Our price, 175 Euro per night, was a very good bargain. You can find nicer, but only at much higher prices. You can't get a better location.

We stayed at Hotel Florence for two nights in late June and loved it. Room 45 had lovely views of the lake and a small terrace. It was nicely furnished and very clean. Only downside was the lack of shower -- sitting in a tub is an adjustment.
The staff could not have been nicer. Our luggage did not arrive in Malpensa with us and the woman at the front desk at Hotel Florence was kind enough to follow up with Iberia Air to make sure it got delivered as promptly as possible. We loved the food in Belagio, but the highlight dinner was at the Serbelloni at the Terrazza restaurant. The meal was fantastic -- amazing service and food. Great views of the lake and sunset -- not inexpensive, but completely worth it.
