“Gorgeous Views!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2009

The Belvedere is a lovely find, clean and reasonable, even in the busy season. There is a good restaurant, large pool, and views on all sides of Bellagio as it sits near the top of the town (hence, the name, Belvedere!). The one deficit that our room had was that it was not air conditioned (sometimes hard to find!) and although there was nearly always a breeze, some late afternoons would find the room too warm, even with a ceiling fan running continuously. The staff was courteous and always helpful.

The information office told us that the Belvedere is the second best hotel in Bellagio, after the Hotel Serbelloni, which has rooms at 1000 euros per night in the high season. It's located a short walk out of town - perhaps 10 minutes. This means that it is quiet as well as having superb views.

The staff at the Belvedere are a delight. Happy, friendly and helpful. Our room was large, comfortable and well supplied with coat hangers and bathroom freebies. The restaurant has a superb view overlooking the Lecco branch of the lake. Below is the charming village of Pescallo. The food is good and plentiful, and nothing is too much trouble for the waiting staff. There is a well-stocked bowl of apples in the lounge, and on Easter Sunday, chocolate eggs at breakfast.

Just two things to be aware of. Room 103 is on the road side of the hotel, and the light from the hotel sign leaks into the room at night. Also, I was surprised at the phone charges. 1.20 euros for a short local call, and 3 euros for 2 short local call s made by the receptionist on my behalf. Small things in an otherwise perfect stay. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Our second visit to the hotel and an early stop on a three month tour of Italy and other places. We had a suite on the first floor but would probably been better with one of the adjoining rooms which also had the views and the excellent sized terrace. The food was superb, the menue changing every night over our two weeks. A slight "package tour" atmosphere to the restaurant didn't totally detract from it because of the quality of the food - and I can endorse the comments about the Barolo and the Bardolino - no glasses true, but half bottles a plenty! The view steals it though - amazing. The staff were good and it is nicely situated a short walk away from the crowds - 10 mins is about right. Lacks a good lounge but on balance I think it is probably the best in the town when price is considered. Full board is a good investment.

The road from Como is as twisty as they come, and it took us a bit longer to get to Bellagio than we expected. However, we got a warm welcome, the car was parked, we were taken to our room and a last minute reservation for the busy restaurant was made.

The room was OK - clean and tidy and nice furniture, although a bit lacking warmth. The bathroom looked fairly new, but the finish wasn't perfect. Recent investments seem to have been made in the Spa (not my scene!). The hotel looked well cared for, the grounds were lovely and the view across the lake was very special.

The slightly out of season visit may have lead to us being some of the youngest in the restaurant - which seemed to also lack some warmth and atmosphere - it closes fairly early too.

All that said, a family hotel run very well.

This hotel is just a dream. perfect in every way. I wish it was mine. Every single member of staff had a big smile they must really enjoy there work. But then again who would'nt working in
such a fantastic setting.
I would recommend the rooms in the main building with patio
and lake view on the second floor, we stayed in room 206
and i swear we had THE best view ever.
The food was expensive but worth paying half board for as
it's pricey any way in that erea, but having said that the food was good a different menu every night, well presented, tasty, interesting (which is what you want when your in another country).

The hotel is quite nice. We had a lake view room, which was well worth it- the view was simply stunning all through the day and varying types of weather. The room was comfortable and clean. The pool area looked nice (it was a little cool for swimming) and my husband said the hot tub had strong jets but was lukewarm at best.
Breakfast was good, with one of the largest assortments of food that we saw during our trip to Italy. We didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the town (including Apertivo, a wonderful little wine bar)
I was frankly surprised that so many people complained of the walk up the hill to the hotel. It was really no big deal, as long as you are wearing decent shoes and take the road up (as opposed to the steps). If you are in decent shape, I'm sure it will be fine. Otherwise you can ask the hotel to pick you up.
The front desk staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. One issue we had was with the provider they recommended for horseback riding. We had a rather scary experience with an unprepared and unprofessional individual (Cavalri or something like that was the name of the company). The hotel heard about our bad experience (we had to walk 5 miles back from the stables) and sent up a bottle of champagne, which was a lovely gesture.
The hiking in this area of Italy is fantastic. The tourist office in Bellagio sold us a good hiking map of the area for 3 euros (I couldn't find much good info online before the trip). Of course, there are a lot of hills! We also hiked around Varenna and our day in Menaggio was wonderful- there are extensive trails within walking distance of the ferry there, just go to the tourist office for the free maps.

  • Liked — Beautiful view from our room
  • Disliked — Horseback riding was scary and unprofessional

This is a lovely old-style hotel. Given the large sum I paid for our room, and that it is only a 3 star hotel, I was prepared to be disappointed. But as soon as I got there, I realised the 3 stars are misleading -- this is a very strong 4 star hotel, and in some respects I'd even class it as borderline 5 star. First, when we got to Bellagio, it was lashing down with rain. There were no taxis. We rang the hotel and they sent a car down to pick us up. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay (we stayed 3 nights). The room was a good size, with a comfy bed, good TV, adequate bathroom. But the view!!! The view was spectacular!!! We paid to stay in one of the rooms overlooking the lake at the rear of the hotel, and it was amazing. We were on the 2nd floor, in the middle of the hotel, and we had stunning views of the lake and mountains. I think the views from anywhere in the rear are great, but I would definitely recommend the 2nd floor or above if you can, as there are some trees around the complex which might interfere with the view otherwise. We had a small balcony, but it was fine for sitting out on. Lower down, you can get a bigger balcony, or even a terrace, but I'm not sure if the views would be quite so panoramic. The walk into the centre of town is nowhere near as far as we feared -- you can do it in an easy 5 minutes. You're coming uphill when you return, so it may take a little bit longer, but it's not an inconvenience. If you don't want to walk up the steps, there is a road which leads up there instead. We liked not being in the middle of the town, as it was much quieter on the hill, and the views offered a lot more. There are more stylish, and much more expensive hotels on offer in Bellagio, but I think you'll struggle to find one better than this!!
