Only place I would ever stay in at Bellagio, as you could not get such a central, wonderful and waterside hotel that has such great service and food. say a big hallo to the restaurant manager Ivan(say Eevan) and he will look after you. From the moment you check in the staff are polite and friendly and very helpful. Great restaurant on the waterfront, great prices, great food and great portions. Even the lunch snack bar and staff, overlooking the right side of the waterfront, are pleasant and friendly. Best rooms for Romantic couples are the 4 rooms overlooking the front on the 1st floor. Don't forget to visit Villa Monastero in Varenna, going out to the right of the main sqaure, views are amazing. Great Lunch place is Hosteria del Platani in Fiumelatte, a short walk from Varenna, you will be shocked how good the food is.

Room Tip: a simple 5 euro tip will get you 5 star service, don't be mean, reward the great service of all...

Just returned from a fabulous week at Hotel Metropole. We stayed on the fourth floor with a side lake view which was stunning. Room was spacious and immaculately clean with fresh towels everyday. Breakfast on the lake is a pleasure and the bacon and eggs were well received by my husband, lovely continental selection also. Would recommend the restaurant but there are also other fab ones around ie Hotel Suisse with excellent pasta dishes and also tucked away Ristorante Grotto is a hidden jem, 8 euros for a litre of heineken and 5 euros for a half litre of wine ! Definitely cheapest drinks in Bellagio :) Also go to Menaggio and hire a speedboat and live the celebrity lifesyle 65 euros for an hour !

Room Tip: All good everyone has a lake view

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Metropole for 3 nights in late June. We stayed in a front, lakeview, balcony room on the 4th floor. The view was great, but the room was the smallest and the priciest we experienced during this trip to Italy. I generally like firm beds, but this bed was very hard. Another negative was that the elevator was small: it barely fit the two of us with luggage. Given all of that, we would probably stay here again because of the view and the perfect location of the hotel. We liked being on the waterfront near the ferry dock.

We stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Metropole in early September. The hotel is perfectly situated on the waterfront of Bellagio with stunning views of the lake. Our room 222 was a corner room with balcony and was clean and comfortable. Although we were close to the ferries they didn't disturb us at all. The staff were always helpful, polite and personable. We would certainly return to this hotel in the future.

This Hotel is situated in a perfect location and close to all attractions. We stayed six nights and had a balcony room on the third level with a view that was just stunning. The ferries tend to start reasonably early at around 7am / 7.30am and it can be a little distracting with the noise factor. Personally it did not bother us and in fact added to the charm with the ferries and people coming and going. Breakfast was only average but this is expected in this country as breakfast is not a priority. The rooms are neat and tidy and as the hotel is old the rooms do appear a little dated. Reception staff were very efficient and always helpful in relation to local attractions.

Room Tip: A balcony room is a must. Be preared to use the stairs as one little lift is restrictive.

Spent 3 nights at the hotel Metropole last September. Very good choice in this beautiful village on the lake. The rooms vary, but we reserved a terrace room overlooking the lake - great choice. Room is comfortable and very clean, with exquisite views. Very small elevator, but the stairs aren't bad once your luggage is in the room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is included with the room, and it's pretty good. Had dinner at the hotel one night of the 3. Food was good with focus on local fish. If you're driving a car, it's a little tricky in Bellagio. One way road through/around town and limited parking spots next to the hotel. You have to pay for them in the meter every day - can't pre-pay for multiple days, so that's a bit of a pain. The parking isn't the hotel's issue, but the way the town manages vehicles. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Metropole again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Terrace room is splendid.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. We booked two rooms, a triple, side view room for our teenaged children and a Lake view room with terrace for ourselves on the basis that we only had need for one balcony/ terrace.

The view was amazing and we used the terrace for sun bathing, playing cards before and after dinner and for watching the ferries with a glass of wine in hand...

The only issue with the terrace is that there is no light, it doesn't have to be big but it was very difficult to play cards in the dark!

We would return, and to the same room.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and even learnt our room numbers and so could give keys without being asked!

The only downer we felt was that breakfast was frankly only adequate, not bad, just adequate . We weren't totally convinced by the friendliness of the morning waiters either. Frankly I'd have been happy to have room only and pop down the road to Caffe Russi (?) for a cappuccino and a pastry. We ate in one night and felt is was a little expensive but not high quality. The location just about made up for it!

Despite the food reservations ( its not bad just not as good as other food in the area) we would like to return.....

....and as for the lack of pool.... we swam off the steps in the lake!
