Bellagio is the place to stay. We stayed here for 3 nights. There is so much to do at night in this little town. The hotel is on the water. It is such a beautiful town and so romantic, even when travelling with teens. You are in the centre of town near so many shops, cafe and restaurants. We found that higher up in the town away from the water the food is better and more authentic. No where in Bellagio is cheap so make sure your wallet is stacked. The rooms are very spacious and clean, with comfortable beds. The air conditioning actually works which was a nice treat. As it was extremely hot and humid, but a nice breeze from the lake. The hotel has a restaurant with the most amazing view of the lake and it was excellent. Our stay included breakfast which was plentiful with a variety of food from fresh meats, cheese, yogurt, cereal, breads, eggs etc. We also had dinner there one night which was excellent. Service was good and the waiters were very friendly. If you are a guest at the hotel there is a discount which always helps. The ferry takes you directly to all the other towns on lake Como it is very easy to get around. You must see Varenna, it is so beautiful with a trek up the castle. Take the water Bellagio Taxi which is ran by John Luca.....one of the highlights of our stays. It is right outside the hotel lobby. His wife Jennine is a gem and full of information about the area and where to eat. Something to not be missed is a dining experience at Salice Blu. Do not leave Bellagio without going. You will be blown away by the food and ambiance. They are very busy so book in advance. We cannot wait to go back.

So well located in the heart of Bellagio. Easy to get to and we parked the car in the free area for a couple of days.Room clean and well organised. Had a room with a balcony overlooking the lake. Staff very friendly and always helpful. Ate one night at the restaurant. Breakfasts are nice with bacon and egg if you like.

We choose Bellagio and the Hotel Metropole based on reviews from this site. On arrival our first thought was we had made the right choice. Our trip was to celebrate a family 70th birthday and we had 3 rooms on the second floor. All our rooms had balconies facing the lake the views of which were simply stunning. As others have said it is well worth paying extra for a room with a view. This seems to be the only hotel without a road between it and the lake which is an added bonus. Our rooms were all very clean and looked as though they had been recently refurbished. All of the staff without exception were very helpful and polite. There was a little noise from the ferries during the day but this didn't worry us as we enjoyed watching the comings and goings. Although the hotel seemed to be full we did not notice any noise from any of the other rooms/other guests who were staying. The breakfast was good and catered for our various tastes ranging from eggs and italian style bacon, fruit, cereal and very nice cake! We did not eat at the hotel in the evenings however had several cafe type snacks there such as lasagne and salads for lunch. The hotel is very well situated in Bellagio with lots of very good shops and restaurants within staggering distance. One night we went to a very good restaurant a bit further out and the hotel took care of a taxi (very reasonably priced) to take and collect us. To sum up we can't wait to come back.

Just one tip on Bellagio generally many of the surrounding street are cobbled and quite steep so it is definitely worth having some sensible shoes with you.

Room Tip: Room with a lake view

I stayed at this hotel over the August Bank Holiday with a friend. We booked a lake front view, and were not disappointed, the view was spectacular, and the little balcony perfect for watching the sun set with a glass of prosecco.
The hotel is only graded as a 3* but the location and the views here are certainly 5* and really made this hotel special for us. Its the only hotel in Bellagio to be right on the lake front and its also about 1 minute walk to the car and the passenger ferry.
What we also really valued was the thoughtfulness of the staff and the personal touches. My friend cannot eat gluten, so normally when we go to Italy, she has to just watch with envy whilst others tuck into steaming mountains of pasta. But at the Metropole, a waitor at breakfast saw that my friend was eating gluten free bread and told us that gluten-free pasta was available in the restaurant, so that evening she also enjoyed a huge plate of pasta cooked authentically the Italian way!
Another personal touch was that I accidentlaly left my pyjamas in the hotel after we travelled home. They were not an expensive pair of pyjamas but it was annoying all the same. I rang the hotel and they offered to post them priority post for me, and believe it or not, they arrived in London before my post cards did!
The staff were always very well informed about the local area and offered us great recommendations for restaurants, water sports venues etc, and always provided us with a map on how to get to them too.
In summary I would say that if you are looking for a stuffy, characterless, chain- style hotel, that is a clone of a thousand others, with a bell-boy and room service, then this place is probably not for you. If however you want a little piece of Italian charm, and a hotel bursting with character, and friendly staff to match, then I could not recommend this place high enough!

Room Tip: I would certainly pay the little bit extra to have a lake view room!

We stayed here for 4 nights in September. The setting is sublime with magnificent views of Lake Como. The hotel is right next to the ferry terminal so we had boats going past our room for most of the day. This added to the interest during our stay but it might have become a little wearing if we were there for more than a few days.
We had a room at the front which was quite large with a lovely balcony so that we could sit and watch the world go by.The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. One tip, If you, like me, prefer your coffee to be hot at breakfast, then I suggest that you ask one of the waiters to make you a cup instead of using the coffee machine, the waiters are the first to admit that the machine coffee is only luke warm. The hotel has a lovely roof terrace with about a dozen beds, the view from here is even more stunning.
This is an excellent hotel and well worth booking.
The town of Bellagio is charming with some very good value restaurants.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony is a must

Booked room with a Lake View and were not dissapointed when we arrived. We had been given a corner room which meant we had two small balconies. the hotel is right on the water and the views are simply stunning. We drove a hire car from Milan and used the paid parking just outside the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel was good but service of all the staff was faultless. nothing was ever a problem. Hotel metropole would have to be the best situated Hotel in Bellagio. My wife and I were in italy for 4 weeks and we have both decided that our stay in Bellagio was the best. Would not hesitate to stay here again. The rooftop "garden" is also a huge bonus. Nothing better sitting up there with a nice bottle of wine and watching the sunset.

Room Tip: Choos a room with a lake View if you can. It is well worth the extra money and will make your stay t...

We stayed for 1 week loved Bellagio the hotel was in a great position for everything including the ferrys which at times were a little noisy but very intresting to watch the activity going on we had a great view of the lake and mountins. There where 2 fabulous firework displayes on the lake on diffrent evening which we watched from our balcony which was small with very uncomfortable chairs best to get the terrace with loungers table and chairs but not as high up. I thought the breakfast hot was not that exciting 2 choices and one day only 1 which was a small egg pie cut in half. The cake was very good though. They also did not want you to sit outside as they already had the tables set for lunch when its the only time you have to linger.as your not at work. The evening meal was ok far better in the many restarants around. The staff where very good and helpfull. There is a really nice roof garden i would stay their again.

Room Tip: Got to go for a lake view or pick another hotel.
