I was charmed with the photos of this hotel when I was just looking for a place to stay in Bellagio. And I was really happy with the choice I made! Now in detail:
LOCATION &VIEWS. Wonderful! It’s just on the waterfront, close to the boat and ferry landing (don’t worry about the announcements or noise – they’re not disturbing and if you close the windows are not audible at all). The panorama from the rooms with a lake view is gorgeous – believe me, you’ll take a great number of fantastic photos of the lake just from your personal balcony or terrace.
ROOMS. Good and clean. The style is not outstanding but very pleasant and there’s everything you need. The beds are comfortable. The a/c in our room was working well. One thing I missed was a good safe with a digital lock. The bathroom was big enough and it was funny to take photos also from there – we had a corner room and there was a little window in the bathroom too.
BREAKFAST. I liked it! Very tasty cappuccino and croissants!
STAFF. Friendly and always available.
SURROUNDINGS. I haven’t been to the hotel’s restaurant preferring to dine at Terrazza Barchetta in Salita Mella. It’s a very romantic restaurant with candles, flowers, good wines and tasty dishes.
Visit Villa Carlotta with its magnificent botanic garden and take a boat trip to Como (or you can go there by bus and return by boat). The northern part of the lake (Lago di Colico) is less popular with tourists so it’s quieter. But to my mind the most beautiful part is the central one, around Bellagio. The city of Como is not so beautiful but it’s worth going up to Brunate and from there to the viewing point in Parco Marenghi.
P.S. They say, Franz Liszt and Mark Twain stayed here... Not a bad company!:)

Stayed three nights at the Metropole and enjopyed it very much. We had a lakefront room, and I highly recommend paying the small extra charge. We thought that there might be too much noise from the car ferries, but it was not a problem at all. The room was small but not too small and was very well-maintained, with new fixtures and modern conveniences.

A good feature about the Metropole, especially if you're arriving by ferry, is the location. The hotel is maybe 100 yards from the car ferry and only 50 yards from the fast ferry dock, so is a very easy walk to the hotel. And as one of only a couple of hotels right on the waterfront, the views are excellent.

The breakfast buffet was fine, with a good selection of cereals, breads, meats and cheeses, and yogurt. They also had fried bacon and eggs every day.

The people at the desk were very helpful and efficient with check-in and check-out and kindly let us leave our bags behind the desk for a few hours after we checked out, allowing us a last few hours seeing the town without having to schlep the bags around.

We did eat at the hotel restaurant one evening and the food was very good and fairly reasonably priced, especially after the 10% discount for hotel guests. I'm not usually a fan of hotel restaurants, but this one had good or better food than the others we tried in Bellagio and was not much different in price.

All in all, I highly recommend the Metropole. I will definitely stay here again if/when I return to Bellagio.

We had a corner room with stunning views across the lake. The facilities and room size were at the upper end of three star and certainly from our experience above average for this category in Europe. The position is absolutely perfect for arriving by train (via Verrena and a ferry) or bus from Como as the hotel is right on the waters edge and a simple stroll across the piazza from the ferry and bus terminals. Unlike some higher star hotels in Italy the wireless internet connection was free and reasonably fast. The staff were very helpful and quite multilingual, one particular waiter spoke 5 languages switching from one to the other with impressive seamless alacrity. Highly recommended for a restful stay as is the village of Bellagio. Tip: Even in shoulder season it is wise to book a restaurant if eating out in one of the many quality restaurants up the hill from the hotel.

Not only is Lake Como beautiful, but the town of Bellagio is the focus of attention for travelers on the Lake. The Hotel Metropole in Bellagio is right on the Lake, 20 steps from the ferry dock, with the most gorgeous view of the Lake and the Alps that you could imagine. We had a lakefront view with a terrace which led off the bedroom. Couldn't get enough of just sitting there with a drink, enjoying watching the ferries and boats traveling on the lake, and just relaxing before dinner. The Hotel had a very nice restaurant with patio dining, and great local dishes of fresh fish and pastas. The Staff of the Hotel are among the best. Very accomodating and helpful. I had arranged a surprise for my wife to have friends from England join us on the trip, and the Staff helped it come off perfectly. We really appreciated their assistance with everything. Can't say enough good words about the hotel and staff.

My husband and I just came back from a long weekend in Lake Como. We can't say enough about the area, it was simply breathtaking. We had been recommended by a Milan native to stay at the Hotel Metropole and we couldn't have been given better advice. The hotel is situated in a perfect location - right on the lake in between the two ferry stops. The rooms are old but charming and spacious. Also, the facilities have been updated and the rooms are very clean. We were given a room with a private balcony overlooking the lake. The buffet breakfast is plentiful and delicious. In addition to the location, the other main standout about the hotel is its helpful staff. The staff are extremely helpful in providing travel advice, parking advice, postcards stamps, shopping, info, restaurant info, etc. They even had a pile of travel books on hand to lend out to hapless travelers like ourselves who prefer to "wing it" instead of doing much advance research. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to any of our friends or family.

What a beautiful surprise! Request a fourth floor room with balcony lakeside! You look right at the ferries. Of course you may spend all your time on the rooftop deck. Staff helped us with car problem phone call. Close to everything. Don't miss walking to the point that splits the wind! Bellagio is heaven when the daytrippers leave.

The hotel is well situated in Bellagio. It sits at one end of the piazza with awesome views of the lake and is near both the passenger ferry and the car ferry which passengers can also use. Although we had a side view of the lake, we also had views of the pretty stepped street behind us and the street next to the lake. The room had two bedrooms; nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was large and recently redecorated. Breakfast was included and consisted of a buffet with good choices including breads, eggs, meats, yogurt, fruit, cereals (great granola), croissants, etc. On the day we took a tour to Lake Maggiore, we had to depart quite early, before the buffet was open; however, the front desk arranged for us to be admitted early and provided us with plenty to eat. Dinner was good, although we found other restaurants that had better choices. The rooftop, a floor above us, had lounge chairs and tables. The views from there are incredible. The concierge was very helpful. Martina, in particular, and the gentleman (don't know his name) were gracious and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend Hotel Metropole.
