Stayed at hotel centrale in august for 6 nights with OH. We have stayed in bellagio before on three occasions, stayin at the belverdere and the metropole. To be honest if this had been our first visit to bellagio and the centrale our first hotel i probably would have thought it was the bees knees, but after having an apartment with superb views at both our previous stays, it was quite hard to compare the three. We had a ground floor room with small terrace and partial view. The room was classical italian decor/furnished and spotlessly clean with small en suite and french doors to terrace and additional french doors/balcony over one of the numourous small alleyways which snake through bellagios beautiful streetways. The room was perfect and checkin was quick and friendly. To find the hotel park off road near the new Lido or on the hill before coming into town and walk towards hotel du lac on the front. At the end of hotel du lac head up the cobble steps (there was 65 steps) and on your left you will find the gateway to hotel centrale.
Its the perfect choice if you want to be in the midst of the beauty of this gorgeous italian town.
We were supposed to be stayin at the metropole but a chamge of holiday dates meant we were left hoteless. Hotel centrale had such good reviews i decided to book. We werent disapointed. It was alot cheaper than other hotels and to be honest the rooms are on par with its bigger contenders! The hotel is family run and are very helpful and friendly.
My only gripe was the breakfast. Beautiful coffee... But quite a small continetal choice. It was ok for a short stay, bread rolls, crossiants, ham, cheese etc but after 6 daysi really dont think ill b able to face a cheese and ham roll again. Even some toast or some boiled eggs would have been nice, but seeing as im pregnant my tastes are alot fussier than usual, so it is a very very small gripe and certainly not the worst breakfast ive ever had.
Theres so much to do in bellagio its really a superb base for seeing lake como (hence why its taken us 4 visits and we've still not seen it all) thd boats are fantastic and dont miss out in visiting villa balbionia in leno (james bond casino royale filmed here) it was absolutly breathtaking.
There are hundreds of places to eat and drink in bellagio but i must mention la punta which is in a secluded spot on the very tip of bellagio, if you walk up past villla serbontoni (5 star hotel) its down the roadway on your left.
The highlight of our culinery experience though was actually at the bistro to the right directly outside hotel centrale. Forma & gusto ristro. The owners were superb and the food.. Just amazing homemade italian! Just delivious! Being a tiramasu expert,,,, please try theirs!!!!
Anyway, would we return to hotel centrale? We would... But the metropole would be my first choice only for the full on view... But value for money while still experiencing bellagio at its best? Centrale wins hands down! Thank you hotel crntrale for your warmth and welcoming stay!
