“Amazing place to stay”
Reviewed 13 July 2009

My husband, mother, sister and her boyfriend and I stayed in the large apartment. It slept all of us comfortably. It was a nice long walk to the lake. Getting to town was a little pricey. 2-3 E per person each way! We hope to return to Bellagio and stay at Il Perlo Panorama again. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The view is beyond amazing.

The one thing that sells this hotel is the MAGNIFICENT views of Bellagio and Lake Como. The pictures do not do this place justice - you have to experience the view for yourself. It is so awe inspiring and so calming. Once we checked into the room, the first thing we did was sit on the balcony and took in the view for hours. In fact, I fell asleep on the chair because it was so serene.

When we got off the ferry into the town of Bellagio, we walked around the place for a bit because we were starving and we knew the place was a hike. Once we finished eating pizza and drinking wine, we asked our server how far the hotel was. She gave us a funny look and gave us a business card of a friend who is a taxi driver. Unfortunately, he wasn't available, so we walked back to the piers and found a taxi that took us up the hills on the winding roads to our hotel. The taxi ride cost 10-Euros, but, after further investigation, there are taxis that only charge 2-Euros per person.

The hotel also has a shuttle to and from the hotel from the post office area for 1-Euro per person, each way. We took this shuttle a couple of times and we just charged it to our room. The shuttle drops off at the post office, which is about a 5-minute walk (maybe less) to the right of the ferry when you get off. Check out the schedule times on its website: www.ilperlo.com.a

Once we arrive, we checked in and were personally escorted to our room. The room we had was #23, and it was huge. The restroom was a decent size, but the shower was tiny! The bed itself was so-so, but it faced the windows. Waking up in the morning and seeing the spectacular view was a very enjoyable moment for me. There is a sitting area with two couches, a flat-panel television mounted on the wall, and a dining table. On the balcony, there were three chairs and a small table. Since a lot of people posted pictures of the view, I've added pictures of the actual room.

Bellagio is a sleepy town at night. We had a late dinner one night, and we couldn't find an available cab driver. So we ended up walking back to the hotel. With it being pitch-black and trying to remember which windy road to turn on, it took us a long time to return home. Plus, there were no sidewalks. So I recommend having an early dinner or pre-arranging a taxi.

Breakfast the next morning was nice. There was a good selection of breads, cereals, and hard boiled eggs, along with juice. Be mindful that anything caffeinated drink beyond coffee is an extra charge.

The morning shuttle to Bellagio was perfect to catch the ferry to Varenna, and then catch the train to Milan. If you need some understanding on how to get to Bellagio from either Malpensa Airport or Milan, feel free to contact me.

And if your travel plans are somewhat flexible, I got a great price on the hotel room because I took advantage of their last minute deals - you have to book within a week for one or two nights. It was a great price for a great room with a spectacular view!

When we arrived we were told that we had booked a smaller room and that for 5 Euro more we could have a larger room with a view. Thank goodness we did! What an amazing amazing view - simply breathtaking. They have high speed internet and clean facilities to boot. A wonderful value.

This is a really great place to stay. Piera (The owner) is lovely and she is always willing to help. Don't hestiate to book this hotel you will not be sorry, if you want a homely experience with sensational views this is the place for you. We watched other guests arrive during our three night stay. Everyone of them had a smile on their faces and a camera in their hands to capture the view which seconds of arriving. DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS!!!!!!

A balcony facing the view of the lake is worth any extra cost. We chose a large room. We were greeted by the woman very pleasantly.Decor is very minimalist...could be much improved. Bed good. Towels and sheets very good. Breakfast the usual but would recommend going out to the terrific terrace to eat as the breakfast room very small and rather drab. Biggest problem with the room was the inability of the metal shades to be drawn for privacy and room darkening...no curtains either. Need a car as it is quite far and a long long uphill return if on foot. The view is absolutely spell binding. The terrace and balcony a "million diollar" view. Met one couple who have been coming back here for 10 years from California. there is a small kitchen area available for an extra charge if interested. We ate main meal at lunch and brought cheese, meat, bread etc for dinner on our terrace/balcony and enjoyed very much. The ferry is delightful and inexpensive. Villa Carlotta lovely to visit especially in the Spring.

The good – the hotel view was excellent, just to seat there and relax and enjoy the view was wonderful. It is uphill, but the views are worth it. Carlo and Piera were both very friendly. The breakfast was good. The view from our room window was fantastic.
The bad – our room (#25) was very run down, old, ugly furniture and we could hear the TV from the next room as if it was in our room.
The ugly – upon arrival we decided to walk to the hotel – big mistake! The road does not have a sidewalk so it is very dangerous, especially because of all the curves. Plus we were carrying our luggage. I would not recommend walking there. Second thing – taxis are very few. We went out for dinner at La Grotta (good restaurant) and when we left we called a taxi from the list of taxis that Carlo provided. Well, one driver was off that night (Saturday night), the other one was asleep, and the 3rd one did not answer. We went back to the restaurant and asked if they could call a taxi – they called exactly the same people we did. We made it back thanks to the courtesy of one young hotel bar manager who offered us a ride after we explained our situation. It wasn’t that late, I believe it was 10pm. So, if you stay at this hotel, make sure you have an early dinner.

We stayed here for three nights while on our way to Nago-Torbole, Lake Garda. The view is every bit as good as mentioned in other peoples reviews, however the photos still do not do it enough justice. This is a sight you really have to experience to realise how beautiful the sunset is over the lake. The hotel is well presented, average really, no complaints and no real plus points. Would definantly go again to enjoy a bottle of chanti while watching the sunset. The hotel is a little far out to be convenient which was slightly awkward for us as we were travelling via motorcycle so it was a hassle to get about. However you could plan your day around the bus service which wasn't frequent enough for us. Since our travelling requires us to be quite structured to achieve the miles between the hotels we prefer to be very easy going once there. It is worth noting that we paid extra for a room with a lake view, which was well worth the money.
