“Great hotel”
Reviewed 21 November 2008

We really enjoyed our stay in Hotel Bellagio. The rooms were really nicely decorated and the view from our balcony was fantastic. We had a room on one of the upper floors, with views across the lake. The bathroom was very modern, clean, the hotel had a really nice, light and positive feel to it. You do need to climb up the stairs to get to the hotel, but this is not that difficult - unless you have lots of very heavy luggage (which was fortunately not our case).
There was not a very large selection of foods for breakfast, it was mainly some cereal, white rolls and pastries, but that is quite typical for Italy. The coffee, of course, was very good - and very strong.
Overall we had a great experience and would defiinitely return to this hotel again.

OK - so if you are unable to carry your luggage up a flight of stone steps forget this hotel and move on :) If you can please read on.

We had a room on the top floor with full lake views, plasma tv, electric windows that folded all the way down to give a complete open room feel, electric blinds so you could welcome the view on a morning without getting out of bed (having a bad back from carrying luggage!).....this place was so wonderful my wife got up to go to the bathroom in the night and ended up returning with her camera to take a pic out of the bathroom window of all the roof tops.

ALL OF THIS FOR 160EUROS per night. I stayed in two hotels on this trip to Europe that are considered world leaders (Badrutts Palace - San Moritz & San Clemente Palace in Venice) but neither came close to leaving the feeling this place did. The staff were not overly helpful, you carried your own luggage and breakfast was average (but the money you save staying here can be put towards breakfast out!). But try and get a clean modern room in Bellagio for this money with stunning lake views is almost a dream - we did not want to leave. Simply stunning.

This was a very, very nice surprise. We booked last minute. Hotel Bellagio was advertised as 2 star and we only paid 60 euros per night so super cheap. To sum up we didn't have great expectations. We get there and...... it is fabulous!!!!

I felt a bit like I was in some Bond movie :-). To get to the hotel one has to climb a very steep, narrow street with 38 steps (we got warned by the hotel staff in a confirmation e-mail). If you have lots of luggage it might be bit of a pain, but for us it was simply charming. The lobby was small. The gentleman at the check in was super nice and helpful. I get to my room and..... fantastic! Good size, lots of sunlight. I was in a corner room on the 2nd floor so I had big windows on two walls. The room was beautifully decorated with queen size bed, pay per view channels, flat screen TV, direct phone line and a sexurity box. Bathroom was big with window and toiletries. Room had AC. I really can't assess why this would be a 2 star. I don't think I have ever stayed in a 3 and sometimes 4 star as nice as this one. Most importantly, the room had a balconey and the view was breathtaking!!!! Lago di Como and the Alps - amaizng! Hotel had a breakfast included in the price - quite good. I absolutely loved this place and if I am ver back in Bellagio this will be my choice to stay in!

Location ideal if you can deal with the stairs, hotel clean. Staff was accommodating but not particularly warm. I knew I wouldn't have a lake view room but the 2 nights I was there I could see the beautiful almost-full moon straight on from the side window of my 3rd floor room. If I stretched a bit out of that window I could see the lake itself.

As another guest commented here, in the room we stayed in one had to be sure the windows were closed in the afternoon to keep out the horrible bitter-smelling smoke pouring from the chimney of the pizzaria next door. It's not anything a first-time visitor would know to do ahead of time so it would have been nice if the cleaning staff would have closed the window when they were done. A sweet Juliet balcony overlooking the neighbors -- not much of a view but a nice place to sit in the sun.

Breakfast was just fine -- the gentleman who worked the breakfast whipped up a beautiful cappacino, the woman was less inventive. Comment from a guest in 2007 that the croissants were burned; we're almost in 2009 and they're still extra brown.

We travelled to Bellagio for three nights with our two year old son. We expected Bellagio to be snobby and larger! Everyone was super nice and Bellagio is a very small town with very little car traffic. We stayed in the Hotel Bellagio in a room I had booked 6 months in advance. The room is small, but clean and well appointed. Bathroom is nothing fancy. We were on the 4th (5th) floor and had an AMAZING view. We were disappointed that we did not get the balcony room we had asked for, but it all worked itself out. Bellagio is very small and if you want to save a bit of money book HB through expedia -- you get a room without the view, but frankly the view is just down the street! We spent two weeks in Italy and enjoyed Bellagio the most. Hotel Bellagio was "nothing special", but the location is good and front desk friendly. Everyone speaks English in Bellagio. Go and enjoy!!!!

The view from our room was worth every penny we spent on our stay.

With the view as an asset, the hotel simply do not have to get anything wrong to ensure a great experience. They didn't and we had a great stay.

If you're booking here, try and get a top floor room, If you haven't already gathered the Bellagio has one of the best views I have ever experienced.

We have just returned from a fabulous week in Italy, staying at the Hotel Bellagio for three nights. The purpose of the trip was for our friend's wedding in Varenna. Hotel is up a little side road, right in the centre of town. Yes, there are quite a few steps to climb to reach the hotel and admittedly, not so easy with luggage and heels but the hotel is so conveniently situated, it's perfect for a short stay. Staff at the hotel were very pleasant and always willing to answer any questions we had. Continental breakfast is served downstairs from 7-10. They were quite strict about finishing at 10am and we saw a few people get turned away. If you do make it down on time, there are bread rolls with marmalade and patés as well as croissants, cereals, fruit and yoghurts. You can order speciality coffees too at no extra charge - I recommend the Latte Machiatto's! As someone else mentioned, you are allowed to use the facitilites at the Sports Club, the shuttle bus is pretty infrequent but it only takes 15minutes to walk there. Watch out though as the road up is quite hairy with all the traffic!

Bellagio is a sleepy, quaint town with cobbled streets and interesting little shops and cafés. Don't make the mistake that we made on our first night and left eating a meal till gone 10pm. We really struggled to find a restaurant still serving and ended up eating a piece of pizza that was more like chewing on a piece of carpet!!! I can however recommend Baba Yaga - excellent food, situated up the road at the far end of the town. The steak was cooked to perfection and the cheese/meat board to share was yummy! Also try the Internet café - it's up a little side road near to the Hotel Bellagio. A beer costs a little more at 5 Euros but you get a board of cheeses, hams, salami and other nibbles to enjoy with it! Well worth it!

All in all, we had a great few days there and although quite expensive (where in Italy isn't!!) I wouldn't hesitate in returning to the Hotel Bellagio in the future.
