“Very Good Value & Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2009

Spent 2 nights at Hotel Bellagio. First leg of a 5 leg, 2 week Italy trip. Too bad we didn't work it the other way around (i.e. end in Bellagio). Very relaxing and laid back. But to the hotel.
Easy to find, it stands out no matter where you arrive from (usually ferry, but we took the suspenseful cliffside bus ride from Como). The steps to the hotel aren't as bad as some have mentioned.
We had Room 305, corner room with balcony facing back (not lake) but had a partial lake view from the side window. It seems non-lake view is slightly less expensive, and we don't spend much time in our rooms anyway. Adequately spacious, comfortable bed, adequate room in shower (I'm a big guy), water pressure somewhat erratic (hot-cold).
The AC, 4 out of 5 snowflakes on Victor's snowflake scale (Victor is our travel partner, who rated all hotel rooms and museums by how effective the AC was in the sweltering mid-summer heat).
Breakfast was fine, good selection, attentive service and prompt restocking.
Front desk was very helpful with location, sites, and restaurant recommendations.
Also had 10% discount for meal at affiliated restaurant (too high end for our taste), and accessibility to a swimming pool a bus ride away (we didn't use).
In all, very pleased, especially for the price.

We toured Italy this summer and spent three weeks in quite different accommodations - from this hotel, with two stars, via self serviced relais' and agroturismo to a 5 star hotel. This hotel provided extremely good value for money. Make sure you have a room with lake view, not all have (even though their web site says so). It's amazing waking up to the glittering blue lake, looking over to Villa Carlotta.
The breakfast is quite nice, and parking fees' not particularly high. And the hotel is in the middle of the town.

And the steps they are writing about? Bellagio consists of such steps. You'll just have to get used to it, and appreciate the exercise...

Bellagio itself is a cute, small town, quite touristy but still picturesque. It's no problem driving to Bellagio, we tried three different roads and no one was particularly demanding, although they're narrow and winding.

Booked a lake view room. Ours was on the 3rd floor with 2 full length glass doors that opened into a balcony. We just sat on our bed & looked out into the lake. Spectacular!

Very easy to find. You can actually see the hotel as you enter the dock. After you hop off the ferry or boat, just head towards the main drag. You will see the hotel's name on a sign post at the bottom entrance of the cobbled street leading up to it.

Room was clean & spacious with easy on the eye decor. Continental breakfast was more than adequate with an outdoor terrace.

Front desk staff were friendly & helpful. We had a very pleasant stay here.

We arrived after a long day of traveling, after hulling our heavy luggage up the numerous steep stairs to get to the entrance, we were greeted very warmly in English and shown up to our room on the 3rd floor. We walked in to find a spectacular view of the beautiful lake and surrounding mountains. The room was very clean and spacious and included small balconies to take the scenery in. We found numerous shops, restaurants and cafes to choose from right by the hotel. Even though the hotel was central to everything, it was still extremely peaceful and the noise did not carry up to the rooms, except for the occasional peaceful live café music that floated through our window during the dinner hours. The breakfast buffet was nice (nothing too fancy) and everything was clean and updated.
We also took advantage of the hiking trails nearby. However, beware that you might get a little lost through all the old cart trails- trying to find the main trailhead. Its a good idea to purchase a map at the information center near the hotel. Though, you are sure to find your way back if you use landmarks. Overall, we had an amazing experience and were very happy with your decision to stay at the Hotel Bellagio.

Website states that most rooms have a lake view... ours didn't.
Hotel is nice & staff friendly... but I guess that is just getting the basics right.

I found it just like any hotel I might stay while travelling on business.
For a standard comfortable hotel then this is for you.

However Bellagio is a small place, (parking is definetly limited) if going back I would look for something on the outshirts of Bellagio (maybe a 10 minute walk).

Would proably find a hotel with more atmosphere, better parking, a lake view and for less $$$.

We stayed in a quad room for 4 nights with our teenage daughters. The room was nice and airy, and large enough for the four of us. The hotel is right in the middle of Bellagio's narrow cobblestone streets. (Bellagio reminded our family a lot of Carmel CA). The location is excellent. The breakfast was a decent continental breakfast. The whole place is very clean. Our only complaint is that the staff were pretty cold and acted irritated whenever we asked for any kind of information.

Bellagio is a lovely, little village. The gorgeous lake is just down the steps from the hotel (some hotel rooms have lakeview rooms). You do have to carry your luggage up the steps to the hotel. But, actually, the whole town is up and down cobblestone steps, so if a person can't walk well, it seems like it would be hard to visit Bellagio. Our teenage daughters particularly liked how easy it was to go out an wander around the town. They liked the shopping, which surprisingly was affordable in a quite a few shops. There are convenient ferries that take you across the lake to other towns.

Highlights: Exploring the town. There is a nice beach about a mile from downtown Bellagio (near San Giovanni). Villa Carlotta, across the lake in Tremezzo was a really amazing tour.

Getting There:
We took the train from Milan to Como town, and then took a bus to Bellagio (1 hour ride on a narrow, twisty road). When we left Bellagio, we took a ferry to Varenna (10 minutes) and then took the train to Milan from there. But, you do have to walk about a half mile from the ferry area to the train station. If you can walk, I would recommend the train to and from Varenna.

This is a lovely hotel, just a few steps of the main street in Bellagio. It is small, their is no lobby, bar or restaurant. There is a lovely breakfast area, and their breakfast is continental and substantial.
Competitively priced for this area. Nice clean rooms, ours had a lovely lake view.
I would definitley recommend this hotel
