The restaurant was very close to our hotel (Barchetta Excelsior), and was recommended to us by the concierge. It is a small and romantic setting, and the menu had lots of fresh fish options. The waiter was very attentive. The restaurant has been around since 1941, so obviously they are doing something right to keep the business going. We liked it so much and we ate there twice during our time in Como.

Despite the recommendation of our hotel that this was a very good restaurant, we left disappointed. We have been travelling in Italy for two weeks and this was not one of our better dining experiences.
The environment was pleasant enough and we were promptly seated. We received water and bread almost immediately but the beer selection was very limited and of the small listed wines, there was no chardonnay, no gavi and no pinot grigio.
The service was initially slow and we waited what seemed like ages for a beer and the wine to arrive. The wine arrived first followed much later by the beer.
There was some confusion about the menu. The carpaccio of seafood with balsamic was actually cooked and the waiter had no idea as to the size of the portions. They were extremely large, the carpaccio completely overwhelmed by large handfuls of herbs and lashings of balsamic. The tartare was presented as a large, thick wheel-shaped slab and, although fresh tasting, offered little to entertain the palate. Noting the size of the appetisers, we cancelled one of our main courses, keeping the one we thought promised the most in flavour. When it arrived, the quantity of fish was suitable for one person, much smaller than the appetiser, but again the fish was overpowered by a buttery-lemon sauce. We decided to order and share a dessert, but after some delay, we were told that the pannacotta was not yet available because it had to be made fresh each day and had not yet set. This was an unprofessional restaurant
trying very hard to be an upmarket fine dining establishment but the food, the service and the wine list were just not of a suitable calibre. We cannot recommend this place.

An outstanding choice of seasonal menus of fresh seafood and catches. Very reasonable prices. Service by the owner, she is a lady and has an eye on every detail. Highly recommended.

Restaurant was elegant but high priced to justify the atmosphere. Wait staff was very attentive.

Avoid this place by all means. Totally over-rated. Had lingine with clams (vongole), there was still sand in them...The price for a simple salad was 15 euros (not on the menu so if they propose it to you know what you're in for). I have been in many Italian restaurants across the country, this was my worst experience. Worst price / quality. Will not return.
