“Well-located, correct room, weird staff”
Reviewed 27 May 2013

The B&B is near the history center and the restaurants by the lake edge (just 5min walk). We had the Maryline room: it was clean, and the bed very confortable. We also had a balcony. However, the bathroom was not directly in the room but next, even if it was a private bathroom. It is not very useful. The staff man was a little weird. You do not feel safe with him even if we do not have any problem. But he is not always at his desk, so for the check-in you can wait for him a while.

Room Tip: before the chek-in, call or send an email to the staff to tell your arrival hour. Otherwise you can...

(+), Location is good, just across the rail tracks and you are at the Opera and Cathedral. There is a lift (tiny one, 3 people max) up to third floor. Wi-Fi was good and there is also a parking place for 5euro per day. Maurizio is very nice, friendly and he does his best to help you.

(-) No reception, you have to call an Italian mobile phone. No credit card, only cash. We booked and paid for the studio (since a family with a young kid), but when we got there, we were told that the boiler was broken and the flat was flooded. We didn’t receive any email about this change. So they put as in a double bed room with the bathroom outside the bedroom in a shared flat (one entrance but two different bedrooms). Anyway, we didn’t’ have another option, so we accepted it (for the same price, they only offered the parking for free, 3 nights x 5euro= 15euro “compensation”). The first day till next morning, no heating and no hot water, so no shower, not able to clean the 2 years old kid either. Next day they fixed it, lasted for 2 days, and on Monday (check out day), it was broken again, so no shower once more. The room was small, no TV, they were kind enough to bring us a microwave to warm up the kid’s milk and a small fridge to keep the milk cool, but it didn't work so we left everything on the balcony (temp around 4-7 degrees end of March). I think this is a budget place, where everything is dated, and not working properly. But heating and hot water is a MUST. Most likely we are not going back, as this wasn't a place for us. By the way, also breakfast is very poor, just a coffee with a croissant.

The location could be the best you can find in Como, near the Duomo and a 5 minute walk to the lake. The host was really friendly helpful and you should try is restaurant with great food, wine at affordable price. Everything was perfect. The breakfast was really good too.

Althought the location was good and the rooms spacious, nothing else was good. The electricity went out our first night which also meant no hot water for a shower. The breakfast was just sad and the towel situation was ridiculous. They don't even give you a bath mat so the floors were all wet and slippery after a shower. I would strongly recommend some changes and disclosing more about the property before marketing this to people.

Basically my experience looks like the latest comment. Although my friends spoke several times to the owner before booking, nobody was aware that rooms hadn't private bathrooms. Nowhere I saw any notice or warning that the breakfast was outside: just a coffee and a croissant in a common bar nearby! No wardrobe, just one towel for person and the last night we couldn't get nor find any additional toilet paper: is that what I get for 90 euros a night? Never again. Generally speaking, good position but it fell short of all expectations and my experience was very disappointing.

My partner and I stayed for two nights in June and found the B&B to be very clean and tidy with large size rooms. There are two bathrooms which are shared between the 5 or so rooms, which was ok until fellow travellers decided to leave their dirty towels on the floor and to wash their socks in the bathroom - which is not a reflection on the host, but annoying nevertheless. Our host was very nice, and owned a restaurant nearby and offered meal deals to guests of the B&B - which turned out to be great value as Como is quite expensive generally. The breakfast however, was a disappointment. Consisting of a coffee or orange juice and a pastry which was obtained from the owners cafe downstairs, it was not what you expected or wanted given the price of the room. Travellers should note that if booking through a provider like Expedia, despite being advised that your card will be charged at checkout, the owner actually wants to be paid cash - which we were only told at the time we were leaving, which meant a trip to a cash point and almost missing our connecting bus! Basically its a nice room, but nothing more.

The B&B itself is lovely - spacious rooms and very clean. Raffaele, the host, is very nice too. Unfortunately, we shared this place with impossible people. The doors to the rooms make some noises when you open them, which is regrettable, but depending who opens them, there is a huge difference. Our fellow guests, however, did not bother at all with being considerate during night time (slamming doors between midnight and 7 o'clock in the morning, having long and loud conversations in the hallway during the same hours, smoking inside even though it is prohibited...). I would advise anyone to bring earplugs. If you can choose a room, take the pink or the corner one at the front of the house as they are the furthest away from the obnoxiously loud-flushing toilet.

Room Tip: The further away from the toilet you are, the better you will sleep!
