“Outstanding fun, food and time!”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

Chef Moreno picked us up at Varenna's main square for a gorgeous ride to his restaurant and the fun began. After selecting fresh eggs at the local market in Varenna, he carefully prepared tortelloni with ricotta & fresh herbs, roasted pork loin with pancetta & herbs, & an amazing potato casserole. Watching the preparation was not only informative but also grand fun as Chef Moreno combined meticulous instruction with charming wit. His English is wonderful and his sense of humor grand. He provides many preparation tips obviously handed down from generations of Italian cooks, and also lets you help in the preparation if you are so inclined. Found out my teenage son can make a mean tortellini! While you are there, you are served cappuccino and, while food is cooked, wines and a personal tray of artisan meats, cheeses & local crackers. You also have a short break to walk around the area and enjoy the beautiful vistas. (Not that you need it as the class takes place in the lovely, generations-owned restaurant that has stood for centuries.) Each of the snacks and meal were amazing! The pasta is the best ever! And the best part, you leave with recipes that you really can make at home--they are simple and wonderful with normal ingredients. He also gave us alternatives to prepare them a bit differently at home. Our day lasted from 10AM pick up to about 4:15, an all day affair but one we would gladly repeat. At the end Chef Moreno drove us to the ferry to catch the 4:30 ferry across the lake to Mennagio for the Friday evening handicraft market. (Also fun.) Our family agreed this cooking class really was the highlight of our Italian vacation--- and one I hope to one day repeat...until then, I have my memories, cooking notes, and recipes to keep me happy! The 50 euro fee was well worth it for the amazing food and fun. Cannot recommend enough!!

“Molto Moreno!”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

This was a wonderful experience as most other reviewer have attested. Moreno is charming and a good teacher. My wife was hesitant because she is an experienced cook. She decided it was worth it if she got 1 good tip and ended up getting several!

We thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the wine and met some really nice people. After they found out we were musicians, we were encouraged to sing after the meal. Moreno happened to have a guitar handy and it turns out that he is a American music fan, especially Neil Young. He was nice enough to give us a small gift for our musical contribution.

There is no doubt as to why this is one of the top attractions when visiting Verenna. Highly recommended.

“Best pasta I've ever had!”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

This is an all day event! But we have no regrets. We were picked up from the ferry stop and taken up to Moreno's restaurant in a beautiful little village away from the touristy area of Varenna. We were given a coffee on first arrival and throughout the day more then enough wine! The food which was made in front of us from scratch was delicious!

I found Moreno to be very interesting, listening to his heritage gave us good insight on the Northern Italian culture. For the money we paid it was very good value! If you love food and wine and sitting down talking to others than this is a great thing to do!

“Incredible Vacation Activity”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

This may have been one of my most memorable vacation activities. The cooking class started by being picked up by Chef Moreno. He was entertaining all the way up to his restaurant. He taught us how to make tortellini from scratch as well as risotto and a turkey roast. We started the class with a wonderful cappuccino. Two hours into class we had wine and cheese and wine flowed for remainder of class. Food was excellent, I learned a lot. I can't wait to host a Italian cooking party when I get home. Thanks Moreno for a fantastic day!!

“Loved it”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We visited as a couple for the cooking class and can only echo what has already been said. We had an amazing day and it was the highlight of our trip. Unbelievable value for money given that we paid 50 euros each for the whole demo plus getting to eat it all for lunch!
