We arrived late and a bit jet lagged following a train strike (welcome to Italy!). We were greeted warmly by Laura and had a wonderful and welcoming dinner at the hotel restaurant (tip--reserve your first night's dinner at the hotel...you will be glad you did).

We reserved a room with a balcony that overlooked the lake. The hotel is about a third mile from the train station--very walkable. From our room we watched the very entertaining hustle and bustle of people departing and arriving on the ferry, yet with the windows closed the room was quiet. This may be an upgrade as reviews have complained about noise--we had no problem.

From our room we had incredible views of snow capped mountains (in March) and we walked the short walk to the main town with great restaurants and site seeing. The castle is a challenging walk strait up from the hotel. From the ferry you can hop to anywhere on the lake.

Breakfast was a bit meager, but OK by European standards. Our second morning my wife was still fighting jet lag and missed breakfast altogether. As we left the hotel late we ordered 2 capacinni and sat in the outdoor seating for the restaurant. I asked that the coffee be added to our bill (since I had already had my breakfast and it was late) but Laura wouldn't hear of it. It was very much appreciated.

It is a small hotel, and I would suggest eating at least one night in the hotel, especially in the off season.

Room Tip: Book early and get a room with a balcony view of the lake and the ferry landing. It's a great place to people watch--someone is always running to the ferry!

This great little gem right on the shoreline of Lake Como proved to be a superb all rounder. We had booked for 3 couples (all friends) with a variety budgets, tastes etc and it ticked everyone's boxes. Wonderfully warm welcome from Laura and her team. It was a privilege to be able to share a little of the history of the hotel. Customer service was excellent, the hotel and rooms were sympathetic to their era and beautifully fitted out. Dinner was great. We all look forward to returning again next year. Would love to return in Spring or Summer, we arrived to a very wet day and mid winter and most shops and cafes closed for the winter. Thank you to Laura and thanks for the much appreciated coffee before we departed to drive across the Alps.

This hotel is in a fantastic location right on Lake Como and within walking distance from the train station. Our room was clean and comfy (I had a fantasic nights sleep) and had an amazing view of the lake and mountains that you could see every day and never cease to be amazed by. The dinner was wonderful and our hostess very friendly.
So we are finding it very hard to put our finger on why we didnt love this hotel. There is just something in the little details that didnt make us really excited about the place. As a previous revewier said we didnt get that warm and fuzzy feeling.
Little things included when the electric went in our room and we were told where the fuseboard was so we could fix it rather than the staff doing this. Or not being told where things were in the hotel (we never found out if there were any areas we could go in other than the restaurant) or what time for dinner/breakfast. Also the restaurant only had a few people in when we were there but there is no music so we were aware that we could hear other people's conversations/they could hear us. Various other things like this.
We do think that this is a good hotel but we feel we have stayed in better for less money. A little more attention to detail and it could be fantastic.

I saw the hotel from the street above coming from Varenna... I thought: THERE. That is the place. Me and my wife where searching for a little dream... we want to wake up in the morning with a stunning view on the lake. That was. AMAZING. Miss Laura were super kindly and the breakfast really good. It was a really cold and windy night but we can imagine, and we want to come back, what that place is in spring, in late afternoons with a smelly air and a pastisse with ice under that beautiful veranda with flowers and magic lake. Thank you.

We have been looking to purchase a property around Lake Como. This time of year there is very limited availability of rooms but Olivedo proved to be a perfect place to explore the lake. Our room was very comfortable with a modern bathroom/shower. We had dinner one night which was excellent. We are already booked in again as we continue our search.

Room Tip: Rooms 12 and 15 are large and have views over the lake
