After considerable research for where to stay for our 3 nights at Lake Como, we chose Varenna and the Royal Victoria. Both were excellent choices. We chose to splurge in a lake-front room. The room itself was quite large but a little bare. However, nothing could have compared with the breathtaking view from our balcony. With only one morning of sunshine, we were still in awe of the beauty of this lake and surrounding area. The included breakfast buffet, served in the dining room overlooking the lake, featured hot and cold items and offered more the usual provided at most European hotels.
If you're taking the train, the station is in Varenna. A short taxi ride takes you to the hotel. It's a very lovely walk but not with luggage up and down the hills. Varenna is a quaint, picturesque, charming village that is not touristy like its more well-known neighbor across the lake, Bellagio. Three nights here was too short a time and deserves a much longer stay!More
