“Great property, wonderful views, steep walk to lake”
Reviewed 16 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We had a really enjoyable stay at Varenna Castel House. Reaching it was interesting, a drive up a very windy and at times narrow road from Varenna then meeting Rob in the car park a little below the property. But once we got there we found a very well equipped, comfortable apartment with a lovely outside space and wonderful views across to the castle and up and down the lake. As may be noticed there is an electric pylon and wires just below the property but it really is not a problem.
The small, pretty village of Vezio is just below the apartment and has a good restaurant/bar as well as the castle (a must visit, also has a cafe). It take s a couple of minutes to walk there.
Rob was a great, friendly and helpful host, just don't expect fluent English! But we communicated OK.
The only caveat, and the reason the property gets 4 rather than 5 stars is that it's location means that "interesting" drive in and out or a steep (but worthwhile) walk down to the lake. The sign in Vezio says 15 mins to walk down to Varenna harbour, which is just about what it took us. Coming back up was a good 20 minutes for us, a couple used to hill walking. But, of course, if it wasn't up the hill it wouldn't have the views.
We had a lovely relaxing time, wished we could have stayed longer and would happily return.

“Exceeded our expectations!”
Reviewed 15 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

From the time we arrived until we left, Roberto was an amazingly gracious host. He picked us up from station, took us to house, had all the instructions and directions to make our stay as wonderful as possible. The house and the views from the house were simply incredible. The proximity to the Fuzio castle was a major bonus - we would highly recommend walking to it. We would also highly recommend walking down the steps to Varenna and taking the ferry that goes to several small towns around the lake. Very friendly town and an extremely friendly host!

“Very spacious, well appointed with great views of Lake Como.”

We stayed in this house for three nights. The setting is beautiful with extensive views over Lake Como. It is in the hills up above Varenna and there is a walking track down to the water (it took us about 20 minutes each way but I'm sure it would take younger and fitter folk less). Roberto met us at the parking lot down from his house and we followed him up the tricky driveway in our car. I'm sure the driveway would be easier for those who are used to driving on the right side of the road. Coming from Australia, everything was on the wrong side for us.
The house itself is spacious and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen, a good sized bathroom and a comfortable bed. There is a barbecue and outdoor dining area where we had breakfast, lovely gardens and fantastic views. It is very good value and I would recommend this house.

“Absolutely fabulous”

We were travelling to a family wedding and had to choose a much cheaper place than other people in the group and how pleased were we that chose this place. Other apartments had tiny verandas for a couple of chairs and we had a very large well equipped garden complete with laid barbecue and even an outside lounge and dinning area all undercover. The actual accommodation is compact ( as the weather was good we were outside most of the day & evening) but clean, attractive and comfortable with lots of little basic extras- coffee, sugar, salt, dish, cloth, washing powder etc. We were even left a very pleasant bottle of red wine.
The place does have a couple of tight corners to reach it by car but a bit of reversing solved the problem. The electric pylons in front of our view were a shame but they didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of this beautiful place. Rob was an absolute dream and so very, very kind and helpful. I would certainly book this place again. It's an absolute little gem. We loved getting back to the apartment to eat, drink sunbathe and watch the sun come up and go down. We were the envy of the rest of the group in their expensive apartments.

“Amazing view and a great host!”

Myself and two friends stayed for 3 nights at the vezio Hill House to attend a mates wedding. Roberto who owned the villa kindly picked us up from the varenna esio train station and had a bottle of red welcoming us on arrival.

The villa was great, recently refurbished, had all the amenities you would want or need, and an outside garden with panoramic views of Lake como. Roberto even arranged for a friend to take us to the wedding venue as well as dropping us off for our return journey without wanting any additional payment. Although Roberto speaks very little English, he was a great host and any translation needed could be done through his friend Pino.

We didn't stay much at the villa due to our plans but it was lovely and peaceful. There is a very steep path to negotiate down to varenna centre, which takes just 10min walk downhill, but if you have any mobility issues, would suggest you have a hire car or you will need to get taxis.

Varenna is beautiful, very quiet if you are after that, but we had a great time given it was with a large wedding party, make sure you explore bellagio via the ferry and pop to Milan.....the train from Bergamo only costs 6 euros if you decide not to get a hire care and the ferry 9 euros.
