“Lived up to expectations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

We booked this hotel based on the reviews and were not disappointed. Our room was on the first floor having a full lake view with front and side balconies. We did book directly with the hotel which was a painless process. The room was spotlessly clean and maintained that way throughout our stay. A hairdryer is provided but awkward to use. Having read reviews we did bring one with. The pool was hosed down on a daily basis
We chose to go half board and the menu was varied and appetising. There was also a salad bar if needed. Eating breakfast on the terrace was an added bonus.
All the staff were informative helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
With the superb position of the hotel we would certainly return

Room Tip: Room 114 had a full lake view with front and side balconies. Beautiful views

Wonderful lakeside locaton, we were able to swim in the lake from the private jetty as well as in the pool there is also a thermal pool perfect for easing the joints after a day of sightseeing. Large rooms with balconies most with a lake view. Large well appointed bathroom but be warned the hairdryer is not suitable for styling your hair, take your own. Look forward to a return visit.

Wonderful location - lakeside front. Immaculately clean, both inside and outside. Pool area cleaned daily. Prices in the hotel were more reasonable than some other bars/restaurants in Sirmione itself. One minor point, when signing for drinks etc, I would have preferred to have been given a copy of our purchases as they do on cruise ships. Our hotel room had a balcony overlooking part of the lake and pool area which was lovely. What let this hotel down was the food - definitely not four star quality. Little sign of vegetables during our week's stay.

Dear Mrs Mary C,

thank you for posting a review about our Hotel. I am sorry and also surprised in reading that the food at our restaurant did not meet your personal taste: our chef Luca and his team are constantly trying to keep a very high standard in cooking all the ingredients, which are first quality and carefully selected. Also, vegetables and vegetarian dishes are always available in the daily menu.

This was a very clean and well appointed hotel which appeared very spacious. It was reached by a very interesting drive through the narrow streets of the old city. The pool area was very inviting and well kept. We had lovely lake view from our room. The staff were very helpful. There was a good selection for breakfast. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

The Hotel Continental does not look much from outside, though clever lighting improves things at night. Inside, though, it is a different story.
Brilliantly located, in a quiet location five minutes walk away from the tourist bustle of the centre of Sirmione, it is on the lakeside with wonderful views and steps down to allow swimming in Lake Garda was well as in the hotel's own delightful swimming pool.
A large lounge and bar is a delight, the dining room is lovely, and the lakeside terrace a wonderful spot for breakfast.
Rooms are large and well-equipped (except for really poor hairdryers -- bring your own); bathrooms good though with a minimal supply of toiletries, and all rooms have terraces with lake views.
Cleanliness impeccable. service excellent. Food of a high standard. We were part of a tour group (Great Railway Journeys -- thoroughly recommended) so had a table d'hote menue in the evenings. But that offered an appetizer (Parma ham and melon sort of thing in large quantities) and then a choice of two pasta dishes or a soup, three main courses, and two desserts -- all of it delicious. Breakfasts were equally good, with a very wide choice of hot and cold dishes, fresh fruit, boil-you-own eggs, etc etc.
A lovely place.

We were so impressed by this hotel and its restaurant. All the comments about the exemplary level of service and attention are true – indeed, on occasions the staff were so observant they seemed to anticipate our needs. The hotel was immaculately clean and coolly elegant, with the fresh lilies in the light, spacious and calm lounge being perfectly matched with pleasant classical music – and at just the right volume! The lounge (perfect for pre-dinner drinks) led out to three absolutely wonderful pools - a brand new infinity thermal spa with various Jacuzzi elements, a good sized swimming pool and a Jacuzzi pool near the lakeside. The pools were surrounded by a combination of wooden decking and elegant stone paving balanced with planted borders and grass and was so good we spent most of our week really chilling out here. We made use of the excellent bar service to have drinks on the terrace – try the aperitif Hugo (prosecco, mint, sparkling water, elderflower cordial), it was the best we had anywhere on our holiday.
Although we looked at several top TripAdvisor restaurants in Sirmione (and ate at one – Il Grifone – which was OK) none came near the Continental’s for the brilliant location overlooking Lake Garda’s shoreline (sunsets were so picturesque, and we had one atmospheric meal during a rumbling thunderstorm over the lake), the interesting menu that changed daily, the consistently great dishes that we had and the usual excellent level of service by the attentive, professional and very affable waiting team. The Head Waiter was superb – observant, helpful (in several languages it transpired) and extremely friendly. Meal highlights included lobster linguine, sautéed monkfish bites, sautéed calf kidneys and escalope of cod. The local Bardolino rosé wine was a great match for most meals.
The Continental Wellness Centre comprised a Finnish sauna, a steam room, a relaxation room; after getting steamed up & sweaty you then had access to an ice dispenser, an aromatherapy misting spray, a drenching rain shower and an invertible bucket of cold water on a pivot!! All were spotlessly clean, of a high standard and provided an interesting variation to being poolside.
Our room was air conditioned, kept really clean by the thorough and friendly chambermaids and overlooked the pools with a view out over Lake Garda. Would recommend any room from number 204 to 212.
As a footnote, the hotel has (very good) cycles available for use by residents. We used them to go along the coast to Desanzano.

Room Tip: Rooms from 204 - 212 would be fine as they overlook the pools and have a good (partial) view of the...

Where else can you find a hotel right on the lake with swimming pool, thermal pool and sun beds in a quiet location. As before the food is superb so I reccomennd half board where it is like going out for a meal every night.
I know there are other good hotels with similar excellent staff.OK you pay a bit more here but it is worth it.
Travelled with Inghams as we often do and their rep 'Heather 'is one of the best and her knowledge of the area in her head is unbelievable.
We like all the Lakes and other resorts but thelocation of Sirmione which can be busy during the day is one of the best.Still plenty of quiet places and you can always stop for an ice cream or something cultural.

Pity the Boat prices keep rising but that seems unavoidable .

We shall return

Room Tip: Ask for Upper room but it does not really matter if you do not overlook the road
