In September 2012 my wife and I embarked on a two month marathon European vacation to traditional tourist attractions and cities all by pre-booked and pre-paid rail journeys. We had included a stress free break at Sirmione in our itinerary in the third week. Unfortunately I picked up a severe stomach bug in Salzburg but as luck would have it this break coincided with much needed recuperation (I hadn't eaten for a week, spent in a Venice hotel room). When we arrived at Hotel Chiara my wife was dismayed that there was no lift as we had several heavy cases. Flavio, our host, cheerfully scooped up the two heaviest, trotted up to the three flights of stairs and deposited them in our room and refused to be tipped for his efforts.

The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and spacious, as was the bathroom. We also had a balcony, complete with table and chairs, overlooking the pool and gardens. Breakfast was exceptional 'continental' supplemented with cooked eggs, great coffee or tea, toast and all served on a spacious verandah overlooking manicured lawns, olive trees and lovely sunlit gardens. There is a small shopping centre within a few minutes walk. Even closer are several fantastic restaurants, cafes and gelateria making it easy to experience the wonderful Italian food and wine with a very short stroll home after.

The old town is an easy forty minute stroll away along the beautiful lake edge or five minutes on the bus (recommend you walk there and catch the bus back up the slight incline), or just sit and read and soak up the sun like the locals. Cinzia, Flavio's wife speaks several languages fluently, including English, French and German and has a wealth of information on attractions and transport. Both Flavio and Cinzia are always bright and cheerful. After three wonderful days we were sad to leave.

After and early breakfast, Cinzia called a taxi for us to make the thirty minute journey to the railway station only to be told to ring back. She informed us this was very unusual. She called back ten minutes later and received no response. Several minutes later she unsuccessfully tried again. We had an hour before our scheduled train departure, but were getting a little anxious. After the third try Cinzia got through only to be told no taxi was available. Without a seconds hesitation, Cinzia spoke to Flavio who fetched the family car (removed their children's sports equipment from the boot), left Cinzia to tend breakfast for the other guests and drove us to the station (possibly an hours round trip) in plenty of time for our train. Judged by any standard this is exceptional service by two exceptional, caring, delightful and gracious people.

This hotel is quite dates and very basic (no lift for those of you with heavy luggage), but is spotlessly clean and the staff are lovely and really helpful with great recommendations for parking, sights and restaurants in nearby Sirmione.

We stayed here on the weekend of 12th May for two nights. This was our first stop on a Lake Garda tour and was a great start to the holiday. Upon arrival we received a warm welcome. The room itself although dated, was good quality and has been looked after very well. It probably looks exactly as it did when first fitted. The bedroom is spacious with plenty of storage, bathroom was huge with a large walk in shower. There is also a lovely little balcony which was nice for having pre dinner drinks.
The receptionist (unfortunately I didn't get her name) was extremely helpful. We never needed to go to the Tourist Information, as she knows everything. She helped with advice about directions, Verona, Simrione, local shops and restaurants and also our drive up to our next stay in Torbole. She really couldn't do enough for you, and would give you maps and leaflets to help any way she could. Her english was excellent and she could also speak German so a very talented lady.
Breakfast was great lots of choice for a continental. Also a man would boil eggs for you, whistling all the time, which cheered me up at breakfast time. He was whistling Sash - Ecuador at one point which lead me to a fit of giggles.
The hotel is quite a walk from Sirmione, although we did manage it in 35 minutes walking very quickly. It is a very nice walk along the lake, you also get to see many amazing cars drive past. Sirmione is a magical place and definitely worth a visit. Overall an excellent stay at Hotel Chiara. In summer you would also have use of the pool which looked gorgeous but just too cold for this time of year.

We spent a week and the manager,Cinzia, made it a very enjoyable one. The room was large, with a useful sized balcony.Everything we needed was provided promptly and Cinzia helped with accurate information regarding local transport,(we didn't have a car )shopping and restrauants. There is a small but comprehensive shopping centre about 200m from the hotel. The hotel is located about 3km or 6 minutes by bus from the old quarter,or you can walk along the senic path. Sirmione has a good ferry service to other towns on the lake, and is only 50 minutes by local bus to Verona.A great base for exploring the Lake !

After deciding spontaneous to visit Lake Garda for a couple days last August, it was quite difficult to find a decent hotel. Hotel Chiara seemed to be the only choice left. After checking in with the friendly staff we started to wander around int he city of Sirmione. The receptionist explained how to get around the easiest and gave good restaurant recommondation.

The next morning we woke up with the smell of coffee in the air and were welcomed to a great brakfast! Sadly we needed to leave the hotel that day because they were fully booked already.. just to come back three days later from to enjoy the great brakfast and friendly staff again!

Internet was fast and free, staff helped out even after we didn't stay at their place. Thanks for the great time! :)

On our 3-week tour through northern Italy, we decided to visit the famous Garda Lake. Though there are many hotels, very few was in line with our budget. Based on some reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to go for Hotel Chiara. Indeed, the room was spacious and clean, so was the bathroom. The 80ies or 90ies run-down design need to be overlooked (once upon a time that bathroom was very deluxe and trendy). The shower had to be repaired by my husband to be able to use it (wouldn't stay in place) and spacious, though we just couldn't find a spot to put things. The airconditioning is noisy and to be honest, we didn't sleep very well (either the noise or the heat will keep you awake). However, on the bright side, the fridge in the room is quite handy, so is the safe (go down to get the actual lock) and wifi was o.k. (though you had to get a new password every day). The balcony (once upon a time the chairs and table were white) was nice for in between snacks overlooking the neighbours tending their vegetable garden. The breakfast is the real gem: fresh (wholegrain too!) bread, nice, local fruit, yoghurt, plenty of jam, cheese etc and they just kept replenishing. And the staff (2 women, both fluent in the most important language) are nice and helpful indeed. Funny detail: we had to back by 23:00 hrs, or the fence would close! Good to note is that it is actually in the suburb, so it's a good hefty walk to the centre of Sirmione. There are restaurants, but very few and almost all are also a pizzeria, catering to tourists. We ended up having dinner twice a the same place around the corner, a modest osteria as part of a wine store. Nothing fancy or hip, but honest food for an honest price. Would we stay again? My husband said they needed a handy man, and for a week of stay for free he would be willing to fix those small repairs that are needed.

Hotel Chiara is a find. It has everything you could want for a value hotel. Big bathroom, spotlessly clean, wonderful staff, great breakfast. It is a great alternative to staying in Sirmone proper. Beaches are close, lots of lovely places to eat close by and the old town about 10 mins by bus. We whole-heartedly recommend.
