We stayed 2 nights in Sirmione after a week's stay in Limone (see review of Hotel Lido). Unfortunately it was extremely hot (mid 30s) but the Hotel Pace room was lovely and cool, with air con which you control and can have on all the time. It also had window shutters to keep out the sun. The hotel is in a lovely position right on the lake, with a jetty that juts out into the lake - you can't paddle here but if you are a good swimmer you could jump off the jetty into the lake. The hotel is very central but in a quiet position, we had no noise problems at all. We had a top floor room with amazing views over the hotel gardens and the lake. The room was spacious with beautiful antique furniture, and the bathroom was very plush with shower, separate bath, his and her basins and mirrors, a separate room with bidet and toilet. Some little niggles: hardly any hooks, the lighting in the bedroom was extremely dim, the bathroom had no chair or surfaces to put anything, the balcony was very small with only one chair.
We were on half board and the food was excellent, a 4 course meal in an air conditioned dining room. The hotel has an a la carte restaurant but the half board residents cannot eat in the same area as them, nor can they eat on the jetty, but of course we were paying a lot less than the a la carte clients.
Parking is in a car park about 8 mins walk away. It was certainly an interesting drive through the old town - you have to show the police at the entrance proof of where you are staying, as cars are not allowed into the old town unless you are staying there - then you have to drive very very slowly to avoid running people over as the roads and archways are very narrow, and as it is really all pedestrianized the people don't think about cars coming along. As we were only there 2 nights we didn't use the car again. Sirmione is lovely, with walks along the east promenade, the west side is reserved more for the hotels with their private jetties, there is also a park walk but unfortunately this is cut short by another park which is privately owned. There are many interesting shops (as in all the Lake Garda towns) and at night it is really pretty to walk around (not to mention cooler!) A little train goes up to the peninsula to conserve your energy.
Hotel Pace was very reasonably priced considering it is in the centre of Sirmione and I think an excellent choice if you want to spend a couple of nights there, if you wanted to drive out every day I could see this being a pain, but of course you can travel about by bus and boat.
