Great little apartment with authentic italian feel! Awesome location, central and convenient! Had a car but didn't really need it as everything was in walking distance. Rosanna was a pleasure to deal with - helped us get to know the area and equipped the apartment well.
Great experience!!! Thank u Rossana!! Felicia e Daniele

The apartment on the second floor with one double room, a lounge and a bunk bed is a bit dated in terms of furniture and services but it is ok for a holiday home. The view is great and despite is on the main road is not that noisy (we went in low season though) and it is not spoiled by cars, the lake is still there with the mountains around. It is also a very good location, two minutes from tourist office and the ferries. Also, few more minutes from the main square. You walk 25 minutes to the cable car and 15 minutes to the train station. The owner was not very helpful with us and every time we asked a question there was always a but. We never understood why we could not use the washing machine even if we offered to pay extra and in general we did not feel very welcome, every time she was mentioning the amount of taxes she pays and the fact she could not go on holiday the past winter, honestly if people are away from home they want to have a positive approach and an easier life and if we asked about washing machine usage and leaving the luggage for a few hours after the early check-out is all part of a customer service, even if it costs 0.50 euro more. We were 4 adults with a child and a 8 months old baby and not making our stay and life a bit easier at the apartment was really a downside. I believe there are dozens of other flats and villas with a view so I would suggest first to look for such alternatives. If not, this is still ok as accommodation but please note that you may still feel a guest after paying 468 euro for three days in low season (the owner wanted to convince me it was a deal when basically everything in Stresa was still not open for the season and there were very few tourists around, honestly she was lucky to have us on a weekdays break and could have avoided moaning and winging).

Stresa @ Lake Maggoire is a stunning location for a holiday. Do not miss having a drink at Sky Bar – Hotel La Palma! Where you stay requires some careful consideration due to the very steep slope that accommodation, not on lake shore, is to be found. We made holiday choices based on not having a car and this being the first week of a month spent in Italy. Our comments reflect Australian cultural preferences.
II Vagiatore 1 is in an excellent location. Not having a car was no inconvenience in Stresa. We caught a train from Milan ( travelled through 3 regions over 4 weeks by train very efficiently). The apartment is a 10-15 minute walk downhill from the station.
The apartment is owned and run by Rosanna who is a local. Her English is good. The apartment is easy to find and she met us with the key. Being able to communicate and arrange meeting times for apartment stays is important. I made sure my phone was unlocked and bought an Italian sim card in Milan – For about $15 euros I had problem free phone and internet access for the month. Apartment WIFI works well.
The apartment is furnished like an older style family beach house in Australia. The price reflects this and is great value for the location.
Other Trip Advisor reviews were very helpful and made some valid points:
The pictures of the lake view are misleading for this apartment but not number 2. There are glimpses of the lake – beautiful snow capped alps in background. The trees are shaped like topiaries – gorgeous, but do obscure full lake view. A great monkey puzzle tree can be seen from balcony to the right. Unfortunately apartment 2 was n/a when we booked so thanks to TA reviews I knew that I was going to miss the view. Personally, I would make sure I had a lake view next time.
Runners were busy training for upcoming lake marathon – but roads are narrow with no shoulders. The lake is a joy for cyclists who are used to traffic. Italian drivers have a better attitude to sharing the road with cyclists than in Australia. We hired road bikes from company at same building as chairlift. Sarah was gorgeous to deal with. Cyclists! What can I say – hotmix, no wind, flat lakeside roads, hills if you need, roadside stops for figs, the best coffee in the world!
The amenities list for this apartment states ”washer” but please note there is NO washing machine with this apartment. It is worth noting that in Italy of course English is a 2nd language and this sometimes results in unintentional miscommunications. Apartment 2 has a washing machine. This was a major inconvenience for us at the start of a long stay. For anyone that has sensitivity to petrochemical perfumes it is also worth noting that private owner/operators of apartments usually do their own laundry and sheets may smell very strongly of washing powder – even my partner noticed this. Balcony is about 1 metre wide – long enough to include a portable clothes line.
Apartment Heating arrangements will be hard to understand for Australians! Another property we stayed in explained that there was government legislation regarding allowable dates for central heating to go on?! (November) This was an autumn stay for us – beautiful sunny days but cold nights 12 degrees – yes Europeans will laugh! At these temps we have heating on in Australia!
Three other things to note are that there is no separate lounge room (tv is in bedroom). Cooks should also note that the oven in the apartment has been disconnected due to lack of use. No lifts in building – 2 flights of stairs to apartment 1.
If you are a gardener expect to see the most beautiful magnolia grandiflora and monkey puzzle trees all around the lake! Don’t miss the gardens on Isola Bella, La Madre, Villa Taranto and for interest the alpine botanical gardens when you use chair lift.

Room Tip: Make sure you book Il Viaggiatore 11 for view, washing machine and more comfortable apartment

Rossana is the nicest hostess and this is a fabulous premises. Location, Location, Location!!! Myself and my two cousins were here for four days and really loved the place. She gave us loads of practical advice/ help and was a real pleasure to deal with.
This is perfect when you want a home away from home instead of a hotel experience. We took ourselves off down to the bakery for fresh bread/ pastries in the morning and had this idyllic view to enjoy.
In between the Hotel Gigi and Alberto Sempione, There is a single Doorway but she was waiting for us on arrival :-)
Best wishes & Many thanks

My wife and I had a great time staying in the second-floor apartment (that's the third floor in the US) with our kids. The location is great, right by the lakeside--you can't get any closer unless you're able to sleep in the lake itself--and the view is fantastic, with the lake stretching out before you and the Alps in the distance in several directions. The apartment was spacious and quiet, with bunk beds for the kids and a nice master bedroom for us. The living room gives a comfortable place to lounge around if it rains, and the dining table sits right by a big window. The building is old, of course, and the apartment isn't totally updated, but it's cozy and an excellent value. Our experience with the owner, Rossana, was mostly quite positive, though not entirely. She forgot that she had waived a fee for us, and I had to forward her the email chain to get that fee back. It was also unseasonably cold while we were there, and when we asked about turning on the heat she said she'd have to charge us a 10-euro fee for each night of heat. She also gave me a rude, stern lecture about not letting our kids take four hours in the bathtub, when they hadn't taken a bath at all. She also told us she needed us out of the apartment three hours before the published and agreed upon checkout time, so she could prepare the apartment for "special guests" who came back annually. All of this rudeness would have netted a negative review, despite the nice apartment, but Rossana came through like a superhero at the end of our trip. When we got to the train station, we could not find our train ticket. Rossana drove to the station, zipped me back to the apartment, and returned me to the station without missing a beat. It turned out that our ticket had been misplaced in our bag all along, but she was quite friendly and gracious about our mistake. I think the key is to keep track of all agreements in writing, expect that any roughness around the edges might be an issue related to English not being her first language, and assume that you'll have a great time. All in all, we would go back in a heartbeat. Stresa is a great town and a fine base from which to explore other parts of the lake. And the view! The view!

Room Tip: You can't go wrong. All three apartments have the same basic view.
