“It was my favorite place to stay in Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2011

A short walk from the train station, a nice garden in the back. I enjoyed my room and it was clean and quiet. Each room is different, with older style closets, doors, locks, some have very small bathrooms (common in Italy). I slept well. The loudest noise were the birds singing in the morning; the windows opened fully.

Breakfast was simple but complete. For example, breakfast included granola, muesli, corn flakes and a bran cereal with either milk or yogurt, as well as cheeses, meat slices, assorted breads, pastries, fruit, etc. Great coffee, nice seating area. WIFI is available - it was 3 Euro for 5 hours, maybe 5 Euro for 10 hours, or something like that and it worked well.

The restaurant is very good, too. The chef makes different specials every evening, local food, nice wine. No elevator, but they carried by bags up and down and I didn't ask them to. They served a group of 12 traveling together, family style and they all enjoyed it.

I will go back.

Room Tip: Ask about the bathrooms.

Having reviewed previous comments about this property located within walking distance of the rail station, I concur. I recently turned 70 & with my TomTom in hand, did not have to spend time searching for a reasonably priced room for my return visit to this most enjoyable area. Whilst the owners did not speak English we were able to communicate quite well. With my late afternoon arrival I also enjoyed their most reasonably priced set menu dinner. Although a little away from the main lake's edge promenades of Italia & Umberto, it was by no means a deterrent to my wanderings & sightseeing. Found the bathroom quite small.

Very close to train station & 10 minute walk to the Lake & local attractions. Large comfortable room with a good bathroom & a small balcony with a peak of a view towards the lake. Nice garden area if you have time to relax there. 80 Euros for 2 people including breakfast was great value for money in a town that can be expensive

This is by far the best place we stayed on this trip. 80 Euros a night, breakfast included. The room was large, at least by European standards, although the bathroom was tiny, as they usually are. Nicely decorated, with a huge window overlooking the garden and a private balcony. There were toiletries in the bathroom but no hairdryer. Location is a bit out of the center of town but still in town. Up a hill and near the train station. We could hear trains going by a lot, but it never kept us awake at night. The people were friendly when we first got there, but then they stopped. They were not rude at all, just never really seemed happy that we were there. Included breakfast was good. Continental, but lots of choices. Dry fruit and cereals, fresh squeezed orange juice, yogurt, bread, homemade sweet breads (panettone), meat and cheese, butter, honey, nutella and jam. Plus coffee was made to order. We also ate dinner there (not included) and it was fabulous but expensive.

The hotel is attractive with a friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. Meals are delicious and served in a lovely dining room. The hotel's location is ideal in that, although in a quiet area of Stresa, is nonetheless within a short walking distance of Lake Maggiore and the tourist area. This is definitely the place to stay in Stresa!

If you are looking for a quaint hotel in Stresa, Mon Toc is the place to stay. The owner is the chef who cooks all the wonderful meals and is very accommodating. It is a family-owned hotel so you feel right at home. We will definitely return.

My family and I stayed for about a week and had most meals at Mon Toc. Various options were offered at every meal, and we never had a bad dish. Highly-skilled chef - I miss his meals already! Relaxed and accomodating atmosphere. Very attentive staff. They treat you like familiy! The rooms were clean as a whistle every day. Great shopping within walking distance. Can't beat the view!
