“Simply Fantastic Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014

If you want authentic Italian food, in a no fuss way, then you've got to visit this place. It's not somewhere you are going to find by walking down the street, as its off the beaten track. This is at the end of a residential street. What a place. Good ingredients cooked in a simple way, true italian food. The service is excellent. The family and staff can't do enough for you. If your Italian is not up to much, don't worry as some of the staff speak good english. They also have english menu's. The wine list is extensive and good. You will find in here some new and emerging Italian wines and really good prices. If your unsure, ask someone they will give you a good recommendation. If your looking for fine dining, this is not the place. If your looking for really good food, in a warm environment with great service, this is the place to go. I dined here with a customer of mine. Great place for business or pleasure. We were the last ones left, and we didn't know it. There was no pressure to leave. Simply great. One final point from me! The best Risotto i have had, by far.

“Antico & expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2013

The location is quite strange, outside suburbs close to Milano Linate airport, you don´t expect to find a restaurant there. Surprisingly nice old building and very kind staff. The prices are usually double the common practice in Italy but I don´t think there is a superb difference. We called for reservation but as the waiter said, no need. The place is large enough and there were many empty tables.

“The dining favourite of top Italian executives”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2013

You wil not stumble across this sperb restaurant by accident. They are VERY seruious about their food, but it is in no fussy. The service is excelent. The food is, in typical Italian style, of the highest quality but not complicated. The wine collection is very extensive and of course of very high standard. This does not make it stupidly expensive... this tends to happen with over trendy places.
This is where business executives and Italians "in the know" come to eat when they want a really good meal and when entertaining a client. It shows a passion for quality and good food but without extreme excess or over-fussiness. I would bring my wife here just as I would a business client.

“Not easy to find but an excellent experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2012

This is a very old restaurant located in an area that has been cut off from the main roads by the Milan East Ring Road near Via Mecenate towards the southeast of Milan. It is not far from Linate Airport and very near to various truck dispatch centers for DHL, Fedex, etc.

I am supplying these details to explain why I said it is "not easy to find". Unless you are careful you'll overlook the turn you mist take to get there.

The Monluè village (Borgo Monluè) dates back to the 1100's. The Abbey has been the fulcrum of all building activity there with a church, a Monastery and a Cascina (a group of buildings which once included a farmhouse and a barn for cattle, sheep and other farm animals). A Trattoria has been housed in the Cascina since the miod 1500's.

When you enter you immediately "feel" the age of this place. Thick walls, old well kept furniture, thick wooden doors. There are different rooms which are used to serve meals. The more modern room has a wide glass window from floor to ceiling that gives a view of the back of the old farm house. The oldest room is where private gatherings are often hosted. Very intimate, it could also be used for a romantic meal.

Their food is Milanese: risotto (yellow rice Milanese style), Osso buco, Cotoletta and so forth. The ownership and management has changed during the past decades. The current management has maintained good kitchen service, food quality and a pristine environment. Some of the waiting staff are competent and courteous. Other staff members are just passable. That is why I am giving "Service" a lower rating as opposed to Food, Value and Atmosphere. Agreed, finding good qualified and courteous staff is not easy in the 21st century but nonetheless over generous ratings serve no purpose and do not encourage professionals to strive to do better.

Book ahead and do not try to force your way in after 10PM. You may get a table that late in the evening but not with smiles. Milan Restaurants (except for the over hyped locations) generally have the kitchen shutdown at 10:30PM

The area surrounding Monluè does not encourage night life. If you are looking for the "Movida" (i.e. where the fashion crowd roams until 3 am or 4am) then head for Corso Como or for the Navigli area or for Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

Worth at least one visit.
