I spent ages trying to find a proper place to stay for a weekend in Milan. And, after staying at the Porta Garibaldi B&B I can assure every minute was worth it. Perfectly located just by the Porta Garibaldi, it is a 20 minute walk to the very centre (Duomo) and it is surrounded by a very pleasant neighbourhood, in which Corso Como is just round the corner.
The B&B has all the advantages of a B&B and all the advantages of an apartment, as you can make your own breakfast because everything is supplied by the very nice owner, Alessandra. So you have plenty of space, with a very nice bathroom and a modern design, and at the same time you don't have to buy anything to make your breakfast.
I would highly recommend it to whoever wants to visit Milano. As a matter of fact, I came back yesterday evening and just this morning I was telling a couple of friends to visit Milano and stay at Porta Garibaldi B&B. Don't miss it!
By the way, you also have free and excellent WIFI, good restaurants just beneath the apartment and a wonderful cafeteria and bread-shop round the corner. And you can go walking everywhere!

Porta Garibaldi offers the best of both worlds: A mostly self-catering apartment — beautifully furnished, clean, well-equipped and a bastion of calm in a character-filled building — with the thoughtful touches and experienced wisdom of a helpful, charming and not-at-all intrusive host (to say nothing of the fact that there were eggs and bacon in the fridge and a stocked coffee machine on the counter, all welcome upon arrival at the end of a long day of travel).

Prior to booking, I was a bit tentative about the location, which is near a main street, across from a construction site and around the corner from a very active bar/nightlife scene, but with Alessandra's reassurance about the quality of the windows, I booked and found Porta Garibaldi, located on the top floor of a calm residential building, to be totally quiet, an ideal refuge at the end of long days exploring a great (and underrated) city.

The décor is clean and lively, but uncluttered. The bed was absurdly comfortable. Plenty of guidebooks (and book books) line the shelves and I am hard pressed to think of a detail that was overlooked (that said: nothing about the place feels fussy).

The neighbourhood has a lot to offer, but it's also easy access to the park, public gardens, museum, train stations, airport. Just to the west is a small, but quirky and rewarding Chinatown. Wonderfully untouristy. A 20 minute walk down Garibaldi takes you to the duomo past neat kitchenware stores, caffes, kids eating gelato on the way home, sun worshippers camping out on patios. Ten minutes to the Brera.

Alessandra is a wonderful person to have right next door and she was ever ready to answer questions or give advice (on things to see/do, places to eat, etc.) when asked.
The apartment, though a studio, is really well designed and feels spacious. Lots of light during the day (and black out blinds/shutters for night), a renovated bathroom. Warm and inviting and infinitely cooler than my place at home. The kitchen is streamlined, but very functional. Cooking is possible, but I found myself assembling dinners out of terrific Italian groceries (cheeses, cold cuts, salads and bread -- there's a nice bakery, Princi, just across the street) or going out to dinner.

Milan was a surprisingly wonderful Italian city (its praises don't tend to be sung in the same way that others are) and I am determined to return; a large part of my resolve comes from knowing that such a terrific home base exists there. I can't imagine staying anywhere else. My experience with Porta Garibaldi was that it was so well considered that I was just able to drop my bags and start living/exploring.

Grazie a te, Alessandra.

Porta Garibaldi is your own apartment while you visit Milan. As others have written, Alessandra is a terrific hostess, furnishing you with guidebooks, stocked refrigerator, and tasty pastries. She was very helpful with suggestions for getting around - Milan is an easy city to navigate with the Metro and reasonably priced taxis.

The soft bed and pillows were especially welcomed after staying in places lacking these comforts. Highly recommend Porta Garibaldi, it is priced very affordably, especially given its proximity to the main historic area.

The apartment was clean and modern, food was fresh (Alessandra fills the fridge and you make your own breakfast), and location was great.
Alessandra was very helpful - she went out of her way to assist us and also gave us a great recommendation of which area to walk around on our only day in Milan.

After travelling from Venice to Milan, the change from staying in a traditionally decorated B&B to this clean, beautiful, modern apartment in the thriving, business city of Milan was a fun variation. Alessandra's is a most charming and welcoming host. She is as vibrant as the colors in her apartment and is only too happy to help with whatever you may need. In fact she did such a good job of setting us up upon our arrival, that we had no other questions to ask her throughout our 2 night stay! The kitchen was well stocked with a variety of breakfast foods and it was nice to be able to eat when we wanted in our own room. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go and it was a short taxi ride to the train station. We were more than pleased with our stay there and know you will not be disappointed if you stay here!!

Even though it was August, and our host was on holiday, we were welcomed and cared for at Porta Garibaldi B&B. This is a beautifully decorated, relaxing apartment had everything we needed to enjoy our time in Milan, including a well stocked kitchen. We used Alessandra's bikes to quickly get to the city center and other parts of the city. She also has city maps, restaurant recommendations, and other information on hand. The apartment is near train and metro stations, with good restaurants nearby. We were in town for a conference, and it was nice to be away from the big hotels, and experience a more authentic Milan. Would definitely stay here again.
