A pleasant hideaway in Milan's canal district. Room was clean, functional and perfect without having charm. Location was great, although the Canals don't come alive until after 7pm so don't expect to head out for an afternoon drink. All it'll, a perfect little oasis in Milan.

Not easy to found a Charme Hotel as Maison Borella. Located in on of the more exciting area of Milan, this old renovated house of which , elegance ans simplicity are its mayor merits., it show, cleanless, service, professionalism at high levels with a staff available for any type of question.
Excellents breakfast and good selection of wines and beverages at the cool and hospitable bar.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking on patio are introducing you in best atmoshere.

Apart from the amazing location of this hotel, the comfort and friendliness of staff needs to be emphasized. There is something intimate and out-of-the ordinary about this hotel, without the sense of it being contrived. The room was small, but comfortable and amazingly quiet considering the night-life of the Naviglio area. We stayed here at the end of our trip and left with a great impression of Italian hospitality.

We stayed for two nights at the start of five weeks in Northern Italy. Apparently, this is the only hotel on the main canal in the Navigli area. There is a problem with cars coming down this street so you may have to walk a short distance with your luggage from the main road to the hotel. Despite arriving at 8.30 am, our rooms were ready. All of the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. We had chosen the two front rooms which have small balconies overlooking the canal and, whilst we had some concerns about noise, the hotel staff had assured us by email that the rooms were quiet. They were right. Once you close the doors leading onto the balcony, the nighttime street noise disappears. The great advantage of these balconies is that you can sit and watch the night crowds building up and feel a real part of the local area. The balconies almost abut each other so my wife and I could pass things across. If you had only one of these rooms, you could find this proximity to other travellers a little off-putting but the two rooms would be perfect for couples travelling together or for a family. These rooms are on the first floor and there is a lift as well as stairs. I would imagine that the rear rooms would be far less attractive to stay in as they look out at each other over a courtyard.
The rooms were very comfortable and we both slept well in the beds (a real test for us as we are bad sleepers). Breakfast is included in the rate and is served in a pleasant room on the ground floor. On both mornings, there were very few people having breakfast so it wasn't the crowded bunfight that you often find in larger hotels. There was a significant array of items to choose from but don't expect a huge hot breakfast. This suited us as we rarely eat much for breakfast anyway. The coffee was as bad as you find everywhere else in Italy.
The hotel is quite a distance from the centre of Milan but it's right in the heart of the Navigli and its thriving nightlife. Aperitivo bars abound and one of the best meals we had on our trip was at "El Brellin" which is only a few steps down the street. There are plenty of shops close by too. We felt that two full days and nights was plenty for this area. A third would have been fine too but any more than that and you might want to be closer to the city centre. We had booked two rooms at the Uptown Palace Hotel for our return to Milan at the end of the trip (about halfway between the Navigli and the city centre - see a separate review) but were pleased that we had spent a couple of days in this little hotel and enjoyed our time in the Navigli.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms with balconies overlooking the canal. Front rooms might be better than thos...

I put up with this hotel in September 2012. The hotel was O.K . However, after half a year I got a fine from the Milan Municipality penalizing 100 euros for entering the C area of the hotel with my car. No one informed us about the fee and after thorough investigation we understood that non residents have to pay a fee when entering the area. On top of that the rental car company Budget delivered our personal details to the Municipality charging us 40 euros for their mutual arrangement. Therefore, reconsider.

Room Tip: Check the area

I only stayed here for one night with my brother in a twine room which turned out to be an attic style room and rather comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and the beds were comfortable with enough space for 2 large suitcases.

We couldn't get any wifi connection at first but the hotel helped us with that which was good.

Breakfast only starts at 7.30am and unfortunately we had to depart before that so we missed out.

The location is good and while a 15/20 minute walk from the main sights of Milan, offers a number of nice restaurants and bars on a canal.

Overall, a nice, clean and comfortable hotel.

We spent three nights at Maison Borella at the end of March 2013, we are familiar with Milan and the navigli, although this was our first time at this hotel.

Our room was at the rear of the hotel. It was quite small with a minimal about of hanging space for our clothes. It appears that the rear part of the hotel is constructed in cast concrete which, I can tell you, is quite good at conducting sound from other rooms and from the walkway outside. This wasn't a big problem, just that we were often aware that we weren't the only people in the hotel. How to operate the air conditioning system was a complete mystery (as is the case with every other hotel in Italy that we have ever stayed in). When we arrived we found that a bulb had blown in one of the bedside lights, this was fixed immediately when requested. The room was very clean with a comfortable bed and a really good shower.

For breakfast there was a wide selection of food and we found it most enjoyable and relaxing.

The staff were polite, helpful and friendly, I would stay here again for sure.

Room Tip: As they tell you, front rooms will be noisy at night as all the bars/ restaurant goers stand outside...
