“Wonderful hotel in Milan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2014

Beautiful clean rooms. We got some chocolates and a nice coffee machine in the room. Also good bathroom accessories. The concierge, Riva, was friendly, patient and very helpful, as well as Yolenda the receptionist.
Breakfast was wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

This trip was a mixture of business and personal time over a weekend. I was staying at the Westin Palace which is my go-to place in Milan, but the Westin didn't have availability for the last 3 nights of my trip (which were the business part of the trip). This started a search for a suitable property in the historic center of Milan. Selecting a hotel in this part of the city can be tricky. An affordable room may be available, but it will be the size of a closet. I narrowed down the choice to the Hotel Milan Scala based on it's location, room description and reviews from a several sources. The choice turned out to be good.

The hotel is located about 5 blocks from Galleria Vittorio Emanuele / Duomo. It's near the pedestrian street of via Dante and is a short walk from the heart of Brera. Location-wise the Milan Scala is excellent. The only comment would be that the location is in a traffic exclusion zone (limited to residents and commercial vehicles) so if you are getting picked by by car it's better you walk a few blocks so your colleague doesn't get a ticket (realize this won't impact most visitors).

I reserved a superior room and arrived on a Sunday. The entrance of the hotel is modest but the reception/lobby area is neat and well decorated. This is a larger boutique hotel - not a big luxury or business property. There is a small restaurant/bar off of the lobby that did serve drinks until quite late even on a Sunday. It's not really a lounge in the sense of a larger property - more like a large living room, which was fine. I don't usually eat in hotels so I can't comment on the restaurant.

Check-in was efficient and since I know Milan reasonably well, I didn't utilize the concierge - to I can't really comment on their services.

The room was on the top floor with a vey nice outdoor patio with a view over the rooftops of Milan. The room itself was quite spacious, nice bed, good quality linens, couch/sitting area and a desk. The room was clearly designed by a professional - it isn't your typical hotel room (see attached panorama). This was a nice touch. The hotel prides itself on being ecologically sound, which unfortunately translated into less than ideal water pressure for me.

Overall room was comfortable and quite a delight. The outside patio really made it a special find for Milan.

I would recommend this property for either leisure or business travelers. Like everything in Milan, it isn't inexpensive but you can't really do cheap in Milan and get a decent business-class or higher-end leisure property. The hotel represents a good value and has plenty of style.

I can't emphasize enough the ideal location of the hotel. There are only a few places that can beat it in that category (the Park Hyatt, the new InterConti that has yet to open, the Grand Hotel et de Milan) - but those would be more than double the cost.

Of note, the Straf came up while I was searching for this place (similar location, price category etc). I went over and had a drink to check it out. If you choice is between the Straf and the Milan Scala, the Scala wins hands down.

All in all, a great stay in Milano.

Spent 2 nights here as a stop over between Canada and Sicily. Chose this hotel for location and we were very pleased. Room was on the 4th floor on the front. No problem with noise. Very stylish room with nice amenities. Coffee maker, chocolates on check in, good bathroom size.Comfortable bed. Internet worked well. Staff was very helpful, provided different type pillows on request and offered clear directions to fashion district ( we were there for Fashion Night opening fashion week by pure chance!). Breakfast was varied with hot eggs, meats, good fruit assortment, pastries, coffee made to order, wonderful juice and live music..what a nice way to start the morning. While definitely not a "budget" hotel I did get a good rate by booking well in advance and the location, breakfast and staff made this a hotel I would return to again.

This is a real good hotel: the rooms are clean and fashionable, while being quite, the location is around 10 minutes from the Duomo and the core of the city center... and two minutes from the Scala opera/music house. Nearby you have good choices of restaurants and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Go for it!

We arrived on December 2nd in Milan. After taking the Malpensa Express from Malpense Airport to Milan Cadorna Station, it was just a 10 minute walk to the hotel. Note that the hotel offered a driver at a very reasonable price from the airport to the hotel.

We arrived at 10AM and our deluxe room was already available. The deluxe room is about 34 square m and looks rather small. However, as it is winter, the large terrace is not of use. However during summer time, all the 34 square m will be used.

Please note that the room and bathroom are spacious and have a separate sofa and desk (go to google street view and enter the hotel to watch the rooms). As we reserved online on the hotels website, the minibar was included and this was really nice (including alcoholic drinks and strong drinks).

The hotel is very close to the city centre. At 7 minutes you reach the piazza della Scala and the famous galleries located at the duomo. For this price the location is amazing.

We had no trouble sleeping although the room was on street side on the seventh floor. The bathroom including bubble bath was very goods!

We have no negative points for this hotel and I have travelled a lot in Europe.

Just don't expect the 'over the top' friendliness you have in large 5* hotels. The hotel staff is very friendly and make you feel welcome but are not over the top.

Conclusion : great hotel
