“Lovely, but too expensive!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2008

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Overall the rooms are spacious, wonderfully decorated and the hotel is very conveniently located to the train, bus and metro station. The breakfast was great, there was quite an assortment of food! However, there are no carpets in the rooms so the floors felt a little chilly. And for the price, the rooms could have been larger. The staff were very efficient but they weren't overly friendly, but everything was done in a timely manner.

When we arrived, we were told it would be a 20 min wait for a room, it ended up being close to 45 min. They wanted to charge us for putting our luggage in storage for what was to be 20 min wait for room, and were insulted when we said we would keep it with us.
The man working the front desk was rude and it was clear he did not like Americans. His demeanor and the way he treated us was awful.
DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE FROM THE U.S.!!
They speak english if they have to but, if you speak it to them, be prepared to be treated like 2nd class at what they claim is a 4-star, but I consider a 2-star
He ignored us and another couple for his 30 minute personal phone call, by ducking away from the desk when people approached it.
Customer Service was not a priority.
We took our own luggage to our room, since we had it anways and the bellman stalked us anyways and said "there is an extra pillow in the closet", and then expected a tip for it.
The elevator was claustrophobic and would fit 2 people or 1 person with a piece of luggage, be prepared to take the stairs. In the morning it was very hard to catch an elevator, as each one that stopped at our floor was full.
The decor in the small rooms was CHEESY.
I am talking orange outdated blankets and second hand orange chairs from the 70's. To spice things up the ceiling of the bedroom had blacklights on it -- very odd, were not sure why. Apparently they thought this complemented the sick orange blankets and other orange decor.
Finally I woke up in the morning with 3 small bug bites, so even know they had higher thread count sheets, they obviously do not clean them.
The lobby is filled with cheesy IKEA decor such as heart shaped chairs and bowls filled with fake flower petals.
On the bright side: The bathroom was decent
Other note:If you have more than 2 people, the bed comes out of the wall, blocking the exit out.
Also when I left once they chased me out of the hotel because I took the key with me --not really sure why I couldn't take the key.
I would not stay here again, not just because of the rooms, but because how badly we were treated!
Not a lot to do in the immediate vicinity as far as restaurants or night life.

Is the worse 4* have ever stayed in. Much worse then lots off 3*.
Very small room, almost without furniture, wall was fallign into pieces. In the breakfast for having something to eat with the bread we had to ask for it.

We stayed here for 1 night and did not enjoy it at all.

A jack hammer was going all day from 8am till 5.30pm right next door to our room..the reception manager was unfriendly and arrogant and no one helped with our bags to the room.

the room was ok but basic,,the bathroom was large and quite good and very clean.

the breakfast was apparently available but you had to pay extra for just about everything on the buffet..why include it.

also there was an unfriendly over efficient manger/waiter
watching eveything we did to kae sure we did not eat what was not alowed that made us feel uncomfortable.

The hotel is way over priced for the service provided and a rip off.

Booked through cities direct, great deal, 3 nights for price of 2!
The hotel was fantastic value, short walk to main attractions which meant you could see a lot of interest as you ambled into town. The hotel staff very friendly and extremely helpful, even provided nibbles in the bar every evening!! The outlandish "Retro" decor is a delight!! Good value, good fun and well worth a visit if on a budget that does not allow for full blown decadence in a city as pricey as Milan!

Nothing wrong with this hotel (if you discount a broken hairdryer) but do not expect to be blown away by the stunning interior decor. While the bar area was nice the room was not.

I was expecting bright and bold but we got a room with a green rectangle painted onto a cotton-blue wall. It looked like it could have been done by a friend of the manager on his/ her day off.

Other than the complete lack ofa promised statement, it was ok. The front desk staff were particularly helpful but the whole place just lacked a little pizzazz.

Quite close to the train station but maybe a little far away from the centre or perhaps a better way of putting it is that if you don't fancy the walk then take the metro/ tram.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2008

As an architect, I really enjoyed the design and space of Hotel Mediolanum. The hotel has been recently renovated into a sleek modern boutique-style hotel. The design of the public spaces and the room was contemporary and very nice. The neighborhood does not have a lot of outdoor restaurant/cafe activity (actually we found most of Milan did not have a lot of gastronomic outdoor activity), so we had a bit of a difficult time finding a non-hotel restaurant which looked interesting within walking distance. The neighborhood was pleasant enough, fairly quiet and about a 25-minute walk to the historic centre. It is located an 8-minute walk to the train station, convenient for rail travel or to catch the shuttle bus (just outside the train station) to Malpensa airport.

We arrived on the train late in the evening to find that Hotel Mediolanum did not have a room for us the first night, even though we had already paid for the room for 2 nights. They nonchalantly sent us in a taxi to their sister property (Hotel Sampi) a few blocks away. Although that hotel was fine--perhaps built/renovated in the 80s and of 3-star quality, and the room had 2 single beds--it definitely was not quite as nice as the 4 star Mediolanum. They have breakfast at both hotels, which is a nice touch.

We asked to be transferred back to Hotel Mediolanum for the second night. Upon checking back in, the front desk was very apologetic about the first night and gave us an upgraded room with a king-sized bed for the second night. The upgraded room and the bathroom at Mediolanum were very nice and of 4-star quality. I liked the 2 new double-paned wood windows in the room and miminalist colorful decor. We enjoyed our second night at Mediolanum very much. Would recommend.
