I am just home from milan and had stayed at this hotel and thought i would write a review which could help others if they are considering this hotel.
Tourist tax - There were some reviews of people mentioning tourist tax and how it had to be paid when checking in however we were given the bill which was 5 euro's per person per night whilst checking out, the tax is reduced by 50% in august however, if they don't ask for it when checking in be prepared to pay on checking out.
Restaurant across the road - This is a really expensive place, if you just want a pasta from the prima platta menu (first course) and a glass bottle of water then it is fairly cheap, otherwise it is pretty extortionate and not very good value for money.
Hotel WiFi - A few problems with this lets start by mentioning that it uses an open connection but requires you to log in, you can get a user name and password from reception, it expires after around 5 days but you can ask for another one. The connectivity is the main problem, despite there begin a wireless access point protruding from the ceiling in the corridor outside of the room our reception was absolutely abysmal and the internet is pretty slow. Also it cuts off connections after a period of time to free up bandwidth. That is if you get connected...we kept getting an authentication error constantly and the only way we could connect almost every time was to go down to reception and loiter around to get a direct connection to the router then go back upstairs. The wifi is okay for reading text based websites and sending emails but if you want to stream videos forget it, there just simply isnt enough available bandwidth.
Stazione Centrale - Come out the hotel, turn left, second left, walk up about 70 metres and the station is on your right behind the flea markets. There are a lot of down and outs hanging around there 24/7 so be on your guard and if you are using the station DO NOT let anyone try to help you with the ticket machines or get close to you.
Breakfast - Down stairs from 7-10.30 its pretty quiet up until around 9ish so if you want to have a peaceful breakfast get up early however it is quite small and the staff are standing there constantly to help seat people and get them drinks so because of the small proximity it can be slightly awkward although they are all nice people. I found it easier to go down when it was busier so the staff weren't just standing there with nothing to do except watch you eat.
Sights - History museum is around a 10 minute walk away from the hotel on corso buenos aires. You can continue walking straight down which will take you to the centro citta (city centre) and the duomo di milano. You need to cover your arms and legs if you are going inside the cathedral which is free but there are no restrictions for going onto the roof which costs 7 euros to climb the stairs or more if you want to take the lift. Once again the centre is just like anywhere, rife with pickpockets and thief's so be on your guard.
Hotel - The room was a bit smaller than i anticipated but that wasn't really a problem, the bathroom was nice, there is a small fridge and safety deposit box in the room and there are wooden electric shutter behind the window which helps keep the sun out there isn't an iron or hairdryer in the room so you will need to take your own. All in all this hotel was a pleasure to stay in minus the horrendous almost non existent wifi. If i were to go again i would have no problem staying here.
Tips - If your italian is not very good or you dont speak any, downloading the google translator app and the italian language pack will be a life saver as not many people understand english well enough to communicate fully with you. It can translate from italian to english too if you arent sure about something. Use google maps and save the part of the city you are visiting on your phone to use as a map. Doing these two things will save you a lot of problems.
