Mokinba Hotel Baviera

The Baviera is tucked away down a side street off Republica behind the Westin, but it is easy to find and really nicely located about 1 mile from the city centre (Duomo, Scala) which is a nice walk in the evening, and a short distance from the central station. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the rooms are well decorated, in keeping with the age of the building. The rooms are not huge but they have high ceilings so this gives a feeling of more space. There are no views to speak of, so no point opening the shutters. Nice bathroom, modern style. The breakfast room is light and airy, with a typical continental selection. We had a pleasant stay here.

We liked Hotel Baviera very much. The room was compact but very clean, and everything worked.
I thought there were plenty of breakfast selections, and you could squeeze your own orange juice. The bathroom in our room was quite tight, but perfectly acceptable.

I haven't seen so small room in all my life! Basic breakfast! The only good thing was the location, close to the centre and the central station! There is a good restaurant in front the hotel, otherwise nothing interesting in the area

We stayed at Baviera Mokinba for 2 nights for 100EUR per night. The hotel is definitely not a four star hotel, more likely a 2 to 3 star hotel. The bedroom blankets were not washed, the hot water in the shower was not working during our stay at a outside temperatur of zero degrees. We didn`t get any discount for the cold water problem even though they knew about the problem. So I guess they turned down the water heater to save money for gas and water. Furthermore there is no free internet (3EUR/hour) and even though breakfast is included in the 100 EUR hotel room rate, you still have to pay for coffee (2.5EUR), orange juice (3.50EUR) and yoghurt (2EUR). Over night there is a loud and disturbing sound that comes from the inner courtyard, so better don`t open the windows while sleeping. Last but not least the television has just one foreign channels which is CNN, the rest are italian speaking channels.

At the beginning lets say that clear, we were not dispointed but there are several cons which has to be stated:

Staff 5/5
Allway helpfull and in good mood

Breakfast 2/5
Not 4 star in any way , more like 2 star hostel, very very basic selection, only one type of bread etc.

Room 2/5
Very small, quite old, small bathrom, not flushing toilet, cold room, ac noisy but not working ( we tryied the heating part)

Location 4/5
Easy to walk to centre , shopping close , metro, tram aswell

Next time we try diff. One

I hate writing bad reviews, especially when others seemed to have a better experience...I'll try to be fair though. The employees I met were smiling and obviously doing their bests. But for 90 euros for a single room, this was the most expensive hotel I've ever been in in Italy, and nothing was included: no parking, no wifi, no breakfast, zit.
Besides, it wasn't my first choice. I booked the Mokinba king online, but due to "computer problems" a receptionist who could not possibly speak English without sounding raving mad offered to transfer my booking to this hotel. It was supposed to be the same quality and same distance to the duomo. Turned out to be twice the distance...
I hope they'll try to improve their level of service or set their prices in consequence (by the way, they don't have a parking, only a parking nearby and that's 15euros for a night, extra) in the future. In the meantime, I can only recommend this hotel in case nothing else is available...
