Hi,

I was advised to stay at Hotel Rubens. It was okay, nothing special. I had a room just next to the elevator. Room 203. It was rather noisy due to the elevator. I was tired both days, so i was not really care about the noise, thus I did not claim.
My advice is to ask your room location before book the room.

Rgds,
Krisztian

Stayed here for four nights and the accommodation was very pleasant. A decent sized double room and high quality breakfast served on the top floor overlooking a square and the city skyline.
It is a bit out of the centre, but the nearest metro is less than five minutes walk and is only about 6 stops (10 minutes) into the very centre of town (at 3 euros for an all day pass it's not a problem). The nearby shops and restaurants are good value and high quality. It's a fairly trendy area (with just one dodgy street about two blocks away) but not at all touristy, so you get things at non-tourist prices.
The parking was a high quality garage about 300 yards from the hotel, which again was very good.
Overall I'd recommend it as long as you're willing to be in a non-tourist zone a little bit out of the centre.

As my favourite hotel was full, I chose the Rubens (it's worth noting that if you book flights and your hotel through Alitalia, you get seriously good value, often paying 2 star prices for 4 star accomodation). The hotel is situated on a busy street with trams and is probably a bit too remote for serious tourists. However, it is comfortable and the staff are helpful (even though reception often seems to have more staff than there are guests - a bit daunting when 4 people compete to give you your room key!). My room was, er, fantastic yet not brilliant...it was almost a suite, boasting a mini living room with sofa and table, a fabulous bathroom with the grooviest shower you've ever seen, and a bed so wide I never actually made it to the other side. Unfortunately my room was situated right above reception, so until the wee small hours it was filled with strange noises coming through the floor, which rather cancelled out the opulence of the bed. The breakfast room is on the top floor, where huge windows let the light flood in (the food quality wasn't that good, though, and once again there seemed to be ranks of dour staff answering to some bizarre hierarchy). Generally speaking, not a bad hotel at all, and if I could guarantee getting a room on the second or third floor (preferably at the back, away from the trams) this could rank up there as a hotel I'd stay at again.

Have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel with 3 friends.
We all loved this hotel. The rooms were nice - quite small - but spotlessly clean.
There was a good spread at breakfast. Some hot items as well as the usual continental breakfast fayre.
The wine in the hotel bar is good value and they provide you with tasty snacks if you are a bit on the peckish side.
We found the reception staff on the whole to be helpful, however we managed to overload the electrics in our room and the concierge who came up to sort it was not the friendliest.
Other reviews have complained about the traffic noise, but we were never bothered by any noise. We did have rooms at the front of the hotel on the first floor but the air conditioning was very efficient so we did not have to open the windows.
The hotel is a fair distance from the centre of the city. You can walk in passing some lovely shops and cafes but it does take a while. The quickest way is to use the metro - Gambara station is less than a 5 minute walk. The daily ticket at 3 euros is excellent value.
If arriving from Linate airport don't waste money on a taxi from the hotel, the easiest way is to take the No.73 bus from outside the terminal building right into the Piazza San Babila. Cross the Piazza and take the metro straight to Gambara.
This hotel may not be close to the centre of the city but it is reasonable (we paid just £64 per room for bed and breakfast), clean and just perfect for a long weekend break in such a beautiful city.

My wife and I have just got back from a few days in Milan (and Bergamo) where we stayed at the Antares. Generally couldn't really fault the place. We had a good sized room on the first floor overlooking the main road and although traffic noise was discernable it didn't really affect us.
Pluses for the hotel:
(1) Ease of transport links
(2) Clean well sized room and bathroom
(3) Adequate breakfast
(4) Efficient staff

Minuses:
(1) It could've have been closer to the centre - this is only a minor quibble as the metro is virtually 3 minutes away but if you are out during the day and want to get to the hotel to freshen up before going out for the evening you are going to have to factor in c.1 hour round trip
(2) The staff on the desk could have been a little more helpful. They were polite and efficient but on the two occasions we needed advice we drew a blank. One of these was concerning transport links using the tram system - the answer we got from the girl on the desk was that she didn't know all of Milan (in fact where we wanted to go was fairly central and the tram stop we needed was right next to a metro station only 4 stops away) and she didn't even point us in the direction of the tourist maps on the desk.

However, this is a reasonably priced good hotel which covered most of our needs.
Words of advice: most of the TV channels are Italian - but hey this is Italy.
I've noticed other visitors have had problems getting from the metro. I can see where the difficulty lies but, believe me, once you know how, the hotel is very close to the metro. You need to go to the Gambara stop (Red line No. 1 towards Bisceglie - make sure you get on this train as the line splits). Once at Gambara take the exit towards Via A. da Messina (which is signposted). Take the stairs on the right. Once outside take the first left (this is in fact Via A. da Messina) and walk c.100 metres - if you are going towards an Esso Petrol Station you are going the right way. On the right you'll see a small park area and just behind this on the right is the hotel. It is as easy as that.
