We stayed at Starhotels Anderson for two nights at the start of a trip to Northern Italy and another hotel in the area on our last night before flying home from Milan. In retrospect, we really couldn't understand why the second hotel was rated so highly in TripAdvisor and other websites and Starhotels did not get better feedback. This is a very lovely hotel with attractive contemporary rooms, friendly service and a perfectly nice breakfast (scrambled eggs, cheeses, bacon, fresh fruit, pastries, etc.). As mentioned in other postings, it is just across the street on the side of the Stazione Centrale and therefore extremely convenient. We got off the plane and the airport bus took us right to the Stazione, so getting to the hotel couldn't have been easier in our jet-lag haze. Even though the neighborhood is not very exciting, it was so easy to walk over to the station, both for our trips to Como and to and from Venice and to get the metro during our stay in Milan. Sightseeing destinations was only a few stops away. We had dinner at the excellent Trattoria del Treno, a few minutes walk from the hotel and the people at the hotel directed us to nice places for lunch the first day and pizza another evening.

The hotel is just by the train station. Good for us because the buses from the airports leave the passengers right there, and we arrived in Milan at 2 am more-less, and some days later we took a train form there to Verona.
But it wasn't really nice to take the bus or subway every morning to go to the center (Duomo, etc) and to come back in the evening; I didn't like that at all.
When you're traveling the best is to stay in a hotel in the city center, where you have everything near.
The decoration was really good. The breakfast was ok. The room was very big, and we had a lot of space to put our baggage and hang the shirts, jackets... Good bathroom.
It was really nice, but I didn't like the location.

I recently stayed in the Starhotels Anderson and I was extremely happy with my stay. First, the rooms are a good size--plenty large and nicely decorated. The hotel has modern/crisp Italian decor and cool furnishings. Our room was spotless--the maid service was superior. The bathrooms were well appointed and spacious. We had a room on the ninth floor, so there were no issues with noise or vibrations from subterranean trains.

The hotel concierge was helpful (made dinner reservations for us prior to our arrival) and the staff was professional (but not overly friendly). Most of the staff spoke English well.

The hotel is located a short block from the Central Milan Train Station, which was convenient when we had to make our morning train to Torino. While the area around the hotel is not the best, the way the hotel is positioned, you don't feel like you're in a sketchy area. We felt safe at all times and we were a 10 Euro (5 minute) taxi ride to the main sights (Castello Sforzeco, the Duomo, the Galleria and La Scala) of Milan.

All in all, I highly recommend this hotel. I paid around $200 per night for a standard hotel room and I felt I received great value for my money--especially for a major European city. It's a modern hotel with a cool vibe and a professional staff.

For a top restaurant, try L'Antico Ristorante Boeucc. It's a classic Milan Ristorante with excellent food, great atmosphere and a friendly staff (with good English skills).

Although the check-in desk was quite small and in the basement (semi basement), it was extremely efficient. Our first impressions were that the hotel looked a bit dingy, small and old, but we quickly realized that this was due to the European standards where the scale is smaller for most of the hotels. We were subsequently pleasantly surprised that this hotel surpassed all of our expectations. The common areas and rooms are extremely clean and well furbished, the paint and carpets were almost spotless, the room was big and roomy, beautiful bathroom, a large window that opens with a window-edge you can sit on and have a drink... Yes we can hear the trains passing underneath the hotel from morning to night on the lower floors as some critics mentioned it, but this is nothing in comparison to the excellent quality service, amenities, cleanliness and location this hotel has to offer. We were on the 3rd floor and don’t know how the noise is like on the higher ones. The continental breakfast also exceeded our expectations: exceptionally good and friendly service, good selection of cereals, breads, fruits, yogurts, cheeses, cold cuts, and some extras like scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, bacon and sausage (Italian style!) - more than enough to start the day and keep us full till late afternoon! Although this hotel is not quite in the old part of the city, its location is also exceptional: right next to the train and subway station, located in a great neighbourhood with plenty of restaurants, shops and markets, only about 30 minute walk to the beginning of the old city - or a short subway ride at 1.00 Euro a fare... you can't go wrong!

We would definitely go back there.

Traveled overnight by train from Rome to Milan arrived Sunday morning to see the Formula1. We were both pretty tired , hungry and need of hot shower. Had accommodation planned in Como, but girlfriend was too tired to travel further, so i went looking for a hotel close to the train station. First one i came across was Star. Receptionist was very helpful and had a room ready for us in half an hour. Price was good given the last minute walk up. Room was good, not large, but clean and well maintained. View of the street. Bathroom was good. Went down to buffet breakfast which was very nice. Definitely recommend.

The hotel is close to the Milan Central station - good if you want to get a bus or train to the Milan airport. We were greeted with code for "what are you doing here, it's holiday season and nothing is open in Milan".....and basically he was correct, everybody in Milan goes on holiday in August. But we were just there to fly home the next day. The hotel was trendy and I would say a little sterile.
