“Great location”
Reviewed 25 May 2012

Stayed here on way to Cinque Terre and also on way back from a cruise. Could not fault the hotel for cleanliness and the location is fantastic with a Metro station just outside the door and the hotel sells tickets for the Metro and provides advice on what to see. Duomo is a must visit and also visit the covered shopping area just opposite the Duomo.
Do not eat in the cafe directly opposite the Hotel as we found the food to be aweful. We had pasta which first of all arrived cold and when it came back (microwaved) it was tasteless.
Breakfast at the Hotel is very good.
Pool is small but adequate and the fitness area is ok.
Great value for money and highly recommend.

Room Tip: Some rooms face onto main road so maybe ask for ones facing the back or front of hotel.

Dear Rivets1952,
Thank you very much for your review and for staying with us twice during your visit to Italy.
We tried to offer an excellent service to our guests so we are very glad to hear that our front office gave you few suggestions on how to do and see in Milan.
The hotel is very well known for its strategic location, close to the main city attractions and only few steps away from the underground, so perfect for who wants to enjoy the city.
Milan is full of many exquisite cafes and restaurants to choose from, even if some may not be at the high standards. I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your choice. The hotel offers a spectacular panoramic restaurant “ La Terrazza “on the sixth floor with a variety of international and Italian dishes. During your next visit, we would be delighted to host you for lunch or dinner and you will be amazed by our Chef’s expertise…
Breakfast at the Hotel Galles is a very pleasant experience: a rich American and continental buffet with a panoramic view of Milan.
We look forward to welcoming you again soon!

Great location - metro station a few metres away and nice district, walking distance to Duomo (or direct metro). Great for safe strolling around on a balmy night.

Rooms tiny but clean. But avoid sixth floor near restaurant or you won't get any sleep from very early morning onwards.

Pool is small and not deep but pleasant and huge fluffy towels provided. Fantastic Turkish bath which helped me give a higher star rating. Supply of choice of herbal teas a nice relaxing touch (even for big coffee drinkers like me). But make sure visit is included in your accommodation cost or it won't be worth the 12 euro you might be charged. I didn't check out the gym as my motivation was rather low due to lots of walking.

Breakfast - just OK. Typical Best Western breakfast where there is a generous spread but with items such as canned or bottled juice, tinned fruit, common cereals and some rather unappealing cooked items such as scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon etc. I noticed that cold meats and cheese were popular although I didn't try them. A good supply of pastries etc.

I gave this hotel a four star rating rather than a three because of free wi-fi, friendliness, tea and coffee making facilities, nice roof-top terrace and great location. Room was very small but clean and THE WINDOW COULD BE OPENED (with french shutters locked) so fresh air could actually come in - I find a lot of the more expensive hotels very stiffling when windows don't open. I was in a single room so perhaps doubles are much bigger - you couldn't spend too much time in such a small room. But air-conditioner was very easy to control in the room and worked exceptionally well.

Room Tip: High up but away from restaurant area or elevators.

Dear Mrs Vacancer,
Thank you for your review and for your kind reply to our email.
I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the hotel and its location.
As you mentioned the hotel is strategically located indeed: just in front the underground station, within walking distance from the Duomo and the railway station, and just few meters away from Corso Buenos Aires, one of the main shopping street in Milan.
As per your reply, I am very happy to know that you did have free access to our Fitness & SPA Centre and we can confirm that the 12euro notice that you have seen on board in the Fitness centre will be removed as soon as possible, but we always include complimentary access in our room rate.
Each room is unique for style, size and color, while preserving the classicism and elegance of the hotel. All rooms are soundproofing so even those close to the restaurant should not have any noise.
Breakfast is very important to us as we consider it to be the main meal of the day. We offer a variety of items, both savory and sweets, freshly baked from our Chef to make the start of your day as pleasant as possible. You can choose from muesli, cereals, organic, gluten-free products, fresh pastries and even a corner with at least 5 types of fruits to choose from. We also have a special breakfast for kids with nutella, nesquik and much more. Scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon are freshly cooked every morning as any other items displayed on the breakfast buffet, so we are sorry to hear that you were disappointed.
We offer many complimentary services: Fitness & SPA centre with gym, indoor swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath and relax area with herbal teas, Wi-Fi in room and hotel’s public areas, iPad Corner and Internet point with printer and scanner, Roof-top terrace/Solarium, self-service Laundry and ironing room (complimentary service, laundry liquid at extra charge), Early Breakfast (from 5 am to 9 am), express Check-out, Repeaters (for those who wish to leave their luggage with us) and PlayStation in the hotel hall.
In the hope of welcoming you again to the Hotel Galles, we remain at your disposal.
Kind Regards
Arnaldo Sbarretti

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel Galles in May, 2012.
We were in Milan for business and only had to stay one night, we have stayed here previously a couple of years ago.
The location is fabulous, you can walk to restaurants and shops and there is a little market outside the hotel.
The rooms are very clean, modern and the beds are great.
All of the staff are very helpful and the breakfast is good.
The only issue for us is the wifi kept cutting out so we had to keep calling to get another code, but i have a feeling we were not connecting properly ourselves.
When we arrived they provided us with a great room, although it was a King Bed, we requested twin beds and they were renovating on that floor, so it was not ideal....we asked to be moved to another room away from the renovations and with twin beds, which they did with no issue.
We will stay again next year, when we return to Milan

If you are searching for a reasonably priced hotel in a central safe location, rooms freshly renovated (some rooms still being worked on) friendly good service, then look no further. BEST WESTERN HOTEL GALLES Milan ticks all the boxes. Metro stop redline right outside the door only a few stops to Duomo and shopping district - also can be walked. Rooms were fresh and nice decor, bathroom brand new, windows well insulated from street noise. Carpet in hallway so no loud footsteps from late night arrivals and rooms have wood or tiled floors. Terrace restaurant on top floor is bright and airy and a good selection of hot and cold breakfast buffet.

Well run hotel professional staff friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Has all the extras concierge, late check in, luggage storage, free Internet, taxi order..... all at a really good price per night for such service and stylish hotel. You won't be disappointed - I would return.

Stayed here through the last week for a trip to Milan. Great price considering the quality of the hotel, cleanliness, breakfast included and the vicinity to the centre of Milan.
Loved the classically furnished hotel with a great marble hall and cosy bar with leather couches. Particularly liked the fact the bar staff were very helpfuul and friendly. Would have been better if the check in staff had welcomed us with a smile though.
Room was lovely, had one looking onto the courtyard so very quiet. Lovely clean bathroom with double shower and toiletries provided. Rooms were cleaned and new towels, sheets changed everyday.
Just outside the hotel entrance is Lima metro station, 3 stops from the Duamo.
Breakfast was full of variety. Cooked breakfast not to our liking but to be expected in Europe. Pastries, fruit, yogurts, juices and tea and coffee, jams and cheeses all present.
Bed was comfy and big. Pillows a little hard. Samsung flat screen tv with english channels - this was great too.
Corso Buenos Aires close to all major attractions. Busy shopping street with high street chains and patisseries etc.
We were able to leave our luggage on last day also as we didnt not depart till late on.
Small apertivo provided at bar. Nice bar man brought us lovely choice of teas to try.
Terrace on top of hotel offers great views. Gym equipment a little old. Pool and sauna rooms small but clean refurbished well.
Phones in all rooms to contact reception. Lifts all working. Computers available to use in hall.
Overall cannot fault the hotel, an enjoyable stay, thank you
We were able to get the train to Lake Como from Cadorna and come back late on. Also went drinking in Dolce and Gabbana bar (just around the corner in San Babila) and come back late too, staff still up and nice to get back to hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you take your own toothpaste. We forgot ours and although we were given free toothbrushes...

I'd say a great hotel for it's location, breakfast, wifi and amenities, but the rooms were rather small and the front desk not very helpful / friendly to answer questions about the vicinity.

Overall, found this hotel to be very convenient:
a. 6 or 7 blocks away from the Milan Centrale train station
b. Lima metro station is literally a few steps away from the door
c. Along Corso Buenos Aires which has a lot of shopping, supermarket, fast food
d. Fast and quick Wifi

In addition, I really liked the wide breakfast spread -- includes American breakfast (eggs, bacon, ham, etc.) as well as other typical Continental breakfast foods (cold meats, fruits, breads, cheese), selection of juices, coffee, etc. The breakfast does not have an overwhelming choice of foods, but it offers enough of a variety that you feel there is a choice of things for you to try.

Some things I didn't like about the hotel:
a. Small rooms
b. Room was stuffy this time of the year (air conditioning wasn't on yet, so one had to open the windows which was sometimes hard to open)
c. The front desk was not very helpful if you had some basic travel or vicinity questions -- for example, simple things like: is there a Chinese or Japanese restaurant nearby, or where do rent a car. They gave vague abrupt answers which was basically: "around the train station" as if they couldn't be bothered. So forget it I'll do my own research. I expected more attention from a hotel deemed a "four star hotel"

Room Tip: Room with sofa-bed / extra bed appears to be more spacious than typical two-rooms
