I loved this place. Arrived late and the concierge/night manager was very helpful and accommodating. We had beers and pizza in the little bar, saved me trying to sort that out arriving in a new place. Then the owners were so friendly and pleasant, it made my stay. Would highly recommend. also the room was spotless and bed very comfortable. thanks.

This is your typical Italian pensione with one big difference - the staff here are the most welcoming and helpful I have ever met at a hotel. I say this having worked in the real estate investment industry and having visited many hotels as the owner's rep! Never have I had as warm as welcome as I did from Lucca. His suggestions for meals and attractions were spot on. We arrived early in the day, fresh from our red eye from JFK, and he somehow had a room ready for us. The Trentina is located in a neighborhood that is a couple easy subway stops away from the Milan tourist attractions (the Duomo, the Last Supper, etc.) We enjoyed staying in a convenient location that was away from the hustle and bustle. Oh, and breakfast was really very good.

We received great service from the Trentina.
Walking into a very welcomed airconditioned hotel (it was 36 outside) to be greeted by one of the friendliest hoteliers I've met was a great start to our stay.

The rooms are simple, but the price is reasonable and it's not far from the metro. I can't remember the lady's name, but she was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. You can easily see why she has one of the top rated hotel on trip advisor in milan.
I'd stay here on the service alone. Breakfast was the standard italian breakfast, but with some amazing hot chocolate thrown in if you wanted it.

We'd read about the Milan tradition of happy hours. Unlike the usual concept of happy hours, the drinks are actually more expensive during happy hour. However, you get free food.

We walked around for a bit, and about 5 mins from the hotel was a bar called CIU's (or it may have been CUI's).
For 7 euros you got a cocktail (or beer, soft drink etc) and an all you could eat buffet of some of the best food we had the whole trip. Well worth it.
The food lasted four hours (breads, mains, pastas salads meats you name it, and then dessert food was brought out later - it lasts from 6-10pm).
If we had been staying in milan longer we would have gone back time and time again. As it was we stayed the whole four hours drinking our way through the amazing cocktail menu.

Def'ly recommend.

I booked this hotel based on positive reviews here....I was a little surprised at how "2 star"-ish the rooms actually were....pretty stark. But they definitely have the best air conditioning in all of Europe. We had stayed at 4 star hotels the previous week (very hot and muggy), and none had air conditioning nearly as good.
The service was 5 star. The owners were personable and helpful.
It's the only hotel (out of 8 that we stayed at on this trip) that had a bidet...
No elevator. Someday when they paint the walls, add molding and hang up a picture or 2, this hotel will be quite nice.

I have stayed at Trentina a number of times on my annual trip to Italy. The rooms are fine, very clean, air-conditioned. The breakfast is good, meat and cheese, freshly-baked pastries. What makes this hotel very special is the family who operates it. Paola and Luca (sister and brother) instantly make you feel glad that you chose to come to Italy. They speak excellent english, and their friendly help with restaurant suggestions, maps, arranging cabs, and any other questions you have, allows you to settle in comfortably before venturing out into the real world of train strikes, etc. A stay at Trentina will enhance your time spent in Italy--don't forget to allow a few minutes to get to know Jack, the friendly dog.
