The Brera neighborhood has a different feel than the rest of Milan. (Disclaimer: I don't know anything about architecture, so I am about to give an uneducated opinion) Whereas much of Milan has old Roman-style architecture, Brera looks almost French to me. It is colorful, with an old-fashioned feel and a relaxed atmosphere - compare this to the gray marble and bustle of the rest of Milan. A warning to the ladies: these are some seriously rough cobble-stone streets with no side-walks, so do not wear heels when you visit. I was wearing tennis shoes and almost sprained an ankle a few times.
