“Quaint and charming”

The Brera neighborhood has a different feel than the rest of Milan. (Disclaimer: I don't know anything about architecture, so I am about to give an uneducated opinion) Whereas much of Milan has old Roman-style architecture, Brera looks almost French to me. It is colorful, with an old-fashioned feel and a relaxed atmosphere - compare this to the gray marble and bustle of the rest of Milan. A warning to the ladies: these are some seriously rough cobble-stone streets with no side-walks, so do not wear heels when you visit. I was wearing tennis shoes and almost sprained an ankle a few times.

“Quintessential Milan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2012

Wow, what a district. The concentration of art and design, shops and dining makes this a place to spend a day or two. We were amazed at the Italian design on show here, from clothing to shoes to home furnishings, even to collections of mini liquor bottles. Much more concentrated and interesting than the Navigali area on the other side of town and within walking distance to the centro, with the Duomo etc.

An area well worth visiting and walking around. Much to see and do, the best is just to watch. We had the benefit of brilliant October weather.

“Old quarter with another side to Milan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2012

Wonderful restaurants within the Brera, tables outside nestled under old stone walls, great range of food and bars. Good place to see Milanese workers in suits relaxing in the evenings. Plenty of tourists but a good choice of places to eat. Look out for where the Italians are eating and avoid the tourist swamped restaurants for better food. Art galleries and artisan shops make a great change from the global brands of the mainstream shopping haunts. Interesting to amble around and drink at the bars and cafes.

“Relaxing”

Lovely place to sit and watch the world go by from one of the many bars that has out door seating, also many niche shops around the area that are worth a browse. Definitely worth a visit.
