“WE LOVED IT!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2012

We booked with Galahotels at a special rate of 80 euro/night (double room with king side bed - bed and breakfast), but the city tax was not included (another 5 euro per night per person).
Big, clean rooms, good staff, early check-in if the rooms are available and THE BEST BREAKFAST YOU CAN GET IN ITALY!!! I think that if we were supposed to eat somwhere else what they offered (and how they offered), it would have cost us more than 20 euro per person/day.
Milan? Disappointing! Sorry to say so, but it is true.
For those who do not have a car and have an early flight: DO NOT RELY ON METRO! THE METRO OPENS AT 6 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING, not at 5 as usual! We lost the terravision transfer from central station because of this, so pay attention!

Room Tip: Pay attention that there are a few rooms that have inside view and are a bit smaller.

Next time I will be in Milan I will definitely stay again in this hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms (even the standard ones) are very comfortable, location is great, price for the night is acceptable (compared with other hotels) and breakfast is terrific. The hotel is really very close to the underground station - about 150m (only 8 stops to Duomo). The breakfast buffet is the best I have seen in any hotel so far in terms of quantity and variety of food and drinks. The only negative thing is lack of free wifi. The hotel offers only one hour of free wifi.

Dear Michal J

Thank you for sharing with us your experience at Meliá Milano. We were delighted to read your comments and to see that our property was perfect for your stay. Luckily the hotel, located in touch a Lotto’s subways stop, it is just a few minutes ride on the Milan metro from both the new trade fair centre in Rho for business reason and the city centre for shopping time. Eventually we catch the opportunity to say that Meliá Hotels International is working to offer soon a better Wi-Fi connection in all our Hotels. If you want to stay in touch with us follow our official facebook fanpage. We very much look forward to welcoming you back on many future occasions.

OK. Older style, great reception/lobby, old style marble and stairs. Reception not immediately obvious. Great bar staff. Good beer n good wine. Breakfast on the 1st floor - typical hotel buffet style. Coffee better than some I could mention - I have had better too.
Reception staff good and helpful.
Location a bit out side the centre - a taxi ride away
Parking in adjacent multi storey car park.
Massive bed - Google maps/GPS needed to navigate from one side to the other. Bottles of still n sparkling water freebies in room. Well stocked mini bar.
Restaurants across the road good.

We stayed in Melia in Milan for 3 nights, every day we had to kill Mosquitos upon returning to the room and this became rather annoying! I always request staying on a higher floor to avoid bug problems but it's usually only an issue at tropical destinations and totally unexpected in this type of hotel/location.

Mosquitos aside, the location is a short walk from the subway and 4 euro can get you a day pass to travel by metro around Milan.

Restaurant at hotel was expensive but there is a family run Sicilian restaurant nearby that was very good for pizza and pasta.

Staff at the front desk was helpful and there is a 24 hour fitness center.

Spent two nights at this hotel on a weekend break to Milan. It's 15 mins max on the Metro (tube) to the city centre - with the Metro station just a two mins walk from the hotel. We found the staff very friendly and helpful, and the hotel was really clean. Slightly dated in decor but in no way shabby. Bar drinks expensive but that's to be expected for any five star hotel. We booked through Lastminute.com (top secret deal) and felt it offered great value for money. 15/20 min walk from hotel to San Siro station. Coffee shop just behind hotel is great for breakfast if you don't fancy paying hotel prices. I'd recommend the hotel for both business and pleasure.

Location:
Max 10 mins walk to the metro station (Lotto station) and MiCo (convention/congress centre)
Max 15 mins away from Duomo/town centre via the metro

Room:
Fairly large and spacious with complimentary wifi for an hour a day, else a reasonable 9 Euro for a 24 hours access
However, watch out for MOSQUITOS!!!!!!!

Food & Beverage:
Breakfast spread is excellent: Continental and big breakfast buffet style
Room service & Restaurant: Seafood spaghetti is yummy (Generous portion and quality seafood)

Service:
Front Desk: Juan & Jessica is helpful and friendly BUT a word of caution for Simone, highly moody especially nearing the end of his morning shift. Guess how welcome my colleague and I felt upon my arrival at 6 ish in the morning without a room.
Iva and Giuseppe make excellent F&B manager with warm, friendly service with a smile at all times

I was booked into the Melia by an agency, and would not usually stay in such a place by choice. My personal preference is more boutique style hotels. Firstly, let me say that the staff were very courteous; not overly friendly as I have found (and quite like) in other establishments, but perhaps this is how 5 star hotels operate- maybe the sort of person who usually stays here wants efficient service but without the cheery smile and chit chat :)
The hotel style itself aimed for 'opulence' I think, with 'traditional' decor, a classic Jaguar in the lobby and a very grand staircase leading up to the mezzanine/ 1st floor. The rooms were clean and quiet (very important for me; I had an excellent 2 nights sleep), the bathroom was ok (a very leaky, weak shower, but nice bathrobes), and breakfast was extremely good with a wide choice of hot and cold food. My only gripe is with the fitness room. There is a sauna and steam room which guests can use for free for one night, after which they have to pay Euro 30 each time they wish to use these facilities. This is not very clear in the room brochure, and I'm not sure I 100% agree with this policy. I understand charging for treatments- the hotel is a business after all and needs to make money somewhere- but charging just for use of the sauna/steam room seemed a bit excessive (and a bit of a false economy for a 5 star hotel). I also objected to the fact that only 1 hour of wireless connectivity was free, after which payment was necessary. Again, I'm not sure a 5 star hotel can justify this policy. But then again, money needs to be made somewhere, and I guess there are a few other hotels I have stayed in that operate this practice. The hotel is close to the Metro (M1) and very close to the MiCo convention centre. I probably would not stay here again if I came back to Milan, but overall it is a nice, clean, efficient place. And as I said before, very courteous staff.
